Broussonetia kazinoki×Broussonetia papyrifera(ZJGS)is a hybrid species in Moraceae family,which has a very complicated hybrid origin.The excellent characteristics of fast growth,strong soil and water conservation...Broussonetia kazinoki×Broussonetia papyrifera(ZJGS)is a hybrid species in Moraceae family,which has a very complicated hybrid origin.The excellent characteristics of fast growth,strong soil and water conservation ability,high leaf protein content and stem fiber content in ZJGS make it both ecological benefits in the mining area and economically valuable.This study aims to further understand ZJGS and other Moraceae taxa through the ZJGS chloroplast(cp)genome structure and the comparison with 12 closely related Moraceae species.Among the 13 Moraceae species,the cp genome length of seven Broussonetia species(ranges from 160,239 bp to 162,594 bp)is larger than that of six Morus species(ranges from 158,459 bp to 159,265 bp).Among the 77 shared protein-coding genes(PCGs)in Moraceae species,the obvious positive selection of Ka/Ks ratios acted on petD and rpl16 genes of B.kazinoki and B.papyrifera,respectively.Phylogenetic analysis based on shared PCGs from 28 species shows that ZJGS is closely related to maternal B.kazinoki.These findings provide data support for the origin of ZJGS hybridization and provide genomic resources for future ZJGS resource development and molecular breeding.展开更多

Fully expanded tender leaves of B. papyrifera wildly growing under two traffic densities (a high traffic loads bearing more than 1000 vehicles per hour, HT;and a relatively clear section with almost no traffic loads, NT) were collected for carbohydrates, amino acids and phytohormones analysis. Leaves exposed to traffic pollutants were revealed to have significant lower amounts of carbohydrates and total amino acids than those growing at relatively clear environment. The levels of abscisic acid in the leaves significantly increased, while gib-berellin acid, indoleaetic acid, and zeatin riboside in the leaves significantly decreased, with the traffic densities. The results indicated that the contents of carbohydrates, amino acids and phytohormones in the leaves of B. papyrifera could be adversely affected by traffic pollution. Variations of the leaf biochemistries of B. papyrifera exposed to traffic pollutants implied that B. papyrifera could physiologically regulate itself to adapt or resist traffic stress.展开更多

(Moraceae), a traditional Chinese medicinal herb, has been extensively applied for many years to treat various diseases. Its fruits (Fructus Broussonetiae) have been commonly used as an important tonic for the treatment of age-related disorders with long history;recent research has proved that it contains 32% to 35% fixed oils. The fixed oil is composed mainly of unsaturated fatty acids, including linoleic acid, methyl palmitate, oleic acid and linoleic acid ester. Objective: To investigate the chemistry of the fatty oil from Fructus Broussonetiae (FOFB) and its effects on plasma lipids. Methods: The chemical composition of FOFB was examined and identified by GC-MS. Thirty male Wistar rats fed diet containing FOFB and cholesterol were studied for 28 days. The effect of dietary FOFB on plasma lipids and adipose tissue was tested. Results: Twelve compounds of FOFB were examined and identified, the major components of fatty oil, 8,11-octadecadienoic acid (83.75%), palmitic acid (10.22%), octadecadienoic acid (2.97%) and 9-octadecenoic acid (1.69%) were found. FOFB significantly exhibited the activities of decreasing the rat adipose tissue weight, triacylglycerol, total cholesterol, and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) concentrations while the rat body weight remained unchanged. Discussion: FOFB contained a large amount of PUFA which had the effect on reducing plasma lipids and adipose.展开更多
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effects of Broussonetia papyrifera(paper mulberry)invasion and land use on the floristic composition of a dry semideciduous forest in Ghana.Forty-five plots(25 m×25 m...The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effects of Broussonetia papyrifera(paper mulberry)invasion and land use on the floristic composition of a dry semideciduous forest in Ghana.Forty-five plots(25 m×25 m each),distributed among three land uses-selectively logged(SL);abandoned farmlands(AF);and an undisturbed reference(RF)-were surveyed.Results showed lower tree species richness(S),diversity(H’),evenness(S)and basal area(BA)in the SL(46,0.78,0.32 and 269.12 m2 ha-1,respectively)and AF(40,0.53,0.45,and 131.16 m^2 ha^-1)sites compared to the RF site(79,2.66,0.87,963.72 m^2 ha^-1).Similar patterns were found at the shrub layer,but no differences were observed at the herb layer.Non-metric multidimensional scaling ordination revealed distinct species composition among the land uses.The two disturbed habitats,SL and AF,were associated with increased B.papyrifera invasion particularly in the overstory,with importance value index and mean relative density of 45 and 65.03%,and 42 and 53.29%,correspondingly.However,the species was only sparsely represented in the RF site.Tree density of B.papyrifera correlated negatively with H’,S,E,BA,and native tree density and richness.These findings highlight the strong link between human land use(i.e.,logging and slash-andburn farming),invasion,and vegetation characteristics,and suggest the need to limit these disturbances to conserve biodiversity within tropical forest ecosystems.展开更多

Then, each of the extracts was further subjected to gas chromatography–mass spectrometry.Results: Qualitative determination of the different biologically active compounds from crude extracts of B. luzonica using gas chromatography–mass spectrometry revealed different types of high and low molecular weight chemical entities with varying quantities present in each of the extracts. These chemical compounds are considered biologically and pharmacologically important. Furthermore, the three different extracts possess unique physicochemical characteristics which may be attributed to the compounds naturally present in significant quantities in the leaves of B. luzonica.Conclusions: The three extracts possess major bioactive compounds that were identified and characterized spectroscopically. Against the backdrop of a global paper resource shortage,there is a growing need to identify fast-growing tree species capable of producing long-lasting paper.Three plant species namely Broussonetia kazinoki,Broussone...Against the backdrop of a global paper resource shortage,there is a growing need to identify fast-growing tree species capable of producing long-lasting paper.Three plant species namely Broussonetia kazinoki,Broussonetia papyrifera and hybrid paper mulberry,belong to the Broussonetia genus,were collected from China to study their white bark suitability for pulp and papermaking.Their chemical composition revealed that the holocellulose content in Broussonetia kazinoki and Broussonetia papyrifera was more than 80%.The molecular weight distribution of several holocellulose/α-cellulose is observed by GPC,which allows us to better observe the changes of various components on the molecular weight.The yield,lignin,whiteness,and molecular weight of the pulps obtained by NaOH treatment were determined.Optical microscope was used to characterize the fiber length-width ratio and rigidity.Finally,the improvement of the fiber rigidity method based on the Kratky-Porod chain model makes it more theoretical and further reveals the influencing factors of fiber rigidity.This study demonstrates the high potentiality of these three species for papermaking applications.展开更多
In this study,the discrete element software EDEM was applied to establish a simulation model of non-uniform-sized particle units for Broussonetia papyrifera stalks,which aimed to address the low utilization rate of ex...In this study,the discrete element software EDEM was applied to establish a simulation model of non-uniform-sized particle units for Broussonetia papyrifera stalks,which aimed to address the low utilization rate of existing Broussonetia papyrifera harvesting machinery,the significant variation between the simulated model of Broussonetia papyrifera stalks and their actual appearance,as well as the absence of contact parameter calibration.Through a combination of the free-fall collision method,inclined plane sliding method,and inclined plane rolling method,numerical simulation was conducted to analyze the pattern of variations in contact parameters between Broussonetia papyrifera stalks and the steel material of the machinery.Accordingly,these parameters were calibrated.The results showed that the coefficient of restitution between Broussonetia papyrifera stalks and steel materials was 0.321,the static friction factor was 0.589,and the rolling friction factor was 0.078.With the parameters of contact between Broussonetia papyrifera stalks as variables and the experimentally measured pile angle as the objective of optimization,the steepest ascent experiment and the three-factor five-level rotation combination experiment were conducted.In this way,a second-order response model was constructed to analyze the relationship between the contact parameters and the pile angle.Through the optimization analysis of experimental data,it was determined that the coefficient of restitution between Broussonetia papyrifera stalks was 0.21,the static friction factor was 0.24,and the rolling friction factor was 0.03.Furthermore,the calibration results were validated through experimentation to show that the relative error between the obtained pile angle under the context of optimal parameter combination and the actual one was 4.11%.In addition,the relative error of mass flow rate in spiral transport was within a reasonable range,this study lays a foundation both theoretically and statistically for the simulation of contact parameters for Broussonetia papyrifera stalk harvesting processing,mechanical harvesting,and so on.展开更多
