Teaching Research on Integrating Ideological and Political Elements into Business English Reading Courses

In the current situation of economic globalization and communalization with a shared future for mankind,it is crucial to cultivate outstanding composite talents who possess morality,literacy,patriotism,business knowledge,good cross-cultural communication skills,and teamwork spirit.This requires the Business English major to increase the reform of course ideology.This article will propose several innovative paths for the ideological and political education of Business English Reading courses based on the necessity of conducting ideological and political education in Business English majors and working together with colleagues to study.

On the Reconstruction of Teachers’Role of Business English Reading Classroom Teaching Based on Literature Circle

Business English reading teaching under the mode of“literature circles”focuses on cultivating students’autonomy in reading,group cooperation,and the exchange of ideas among group members.In this teaching mode,teachers are no longer the masters of the reading classroom,but the helpers,participants,and researchers in the process of students’reading.The reconstruction of teachers’role can promote the benign development of relationship not only between teachers and students,but also between students and students,inject new impetus and vitality into the classroom,and improve students’reading literacy.

A RESEARCH INTO THE EFFECT OF BACKGROUND KNOWLEDGE ON BUSINESS ENGLISH READING COMPREHENSION

With the arrival of the new millennium,the demand fortalented people with both professional knowledge and excellentlanguage abilities is getting stronger and stronger.For business major students,reading is paramount inBusiness English teaching and learning.And their reading abilityis often assessed by a text of reading comprehension.However,from my experience as a college teacher ofBusiness English,I have noticed some problems among studentswho have little knowledge of business.They seem to readBusiness English materials at a slower rate and with lessunderstanding than general English materials.Then there is the question:is Business English reading"simply"a problem of language competence? Or are there anyother more important factors?This article is an investigation into the effect of backgroundknowledge on Business English reading comprehension.Thestudy attempts to assess to what extent L2 readers might beaffected because of their lack of a background schematapresupposed by the author by comparing the test results of twopassages comparable in language lightness or heaviness.Morecomparable passages like these can be used in investigating intothe rival effects of background knowledge and linguisticcompetence.The implications of comprehension theory for L2pedagogy are discussed and suggestions for Business Englishteaching is put forward.

Genre-Based Approach in Business Translation Teaching

Genre-based teaching approach is a pedagogy based on genre and genre analysis theory.Based on this teaching approach,the paper puts forward a three-stage model appropriate for the teaching of business English reading.It develops teaching activities focusing on the schematic structure of a discourse.Its purpose is to make students know that the discourses with different genres have different communicative purposes and discourse structures.Through a theoretical analysis and empirical study of the model,it is concluded that genre-based teaching approach can effectively help students improve their ability of business English reading comprehension.
