Combined cold,heat and power(CCHP)systems and fuel cells for CCHP applications:a topological review

As the basis for the study,this manuscript was written at a time when the energy crisis is affecting most parts of the world and most es-pecially the prevailing and rampant electricity crisis in most developing countries.As a result,50 combined cooling,heating and power(CCHP)systems studies were reviewed,which included the internal combustion engine(ICE),Stirling engine,biomass,micro turbine,solar and biogas,photovoltaic(PV)and gas turbine,wind turbine,PV and micro-turbine,solid-oxide and phosphoric-acid fuel cells(FCs),ICE and thermoelectric generator,low-temperature(LT)polymer electrolyte membrane(PEM),inlet air throttling gas turbine,ground source heat pump(GSHP)micro gas turbine and PV,ICE and GSHP,ICE with dehumidification and refrigeration,5-kW PEM FC,thermoelectric cooler and LT-PEM FC,Stirling engine and molten carbonate FC,thermo-acoustic organic Rankine cycle,solar-thermal,geothermal,integrated energy systems,power-and heat-storage systems,energy-conversion systems,thermodynamic and thermo-economic optimization strategies,working fluids based on hydrogen,helium as well as ammonia,H_(2)O,CO_(2) etc.Of these reviewed CCHP systems,FC-based CCHP systems were of the greatest interest,particularly the PEM FC.Consequently,FCs were further investigated,whereby the seven popular types of FCs identified and classified were summarily compared with each other,from which the PEM FC was preferred due to its practical popularity.However,PEM FCs,like all FCs,are susceptible to the fuel-starvation phenomenon;therefore,six FC-assisted schemes were examined,from which the FC assisted with the supercapacitor and battery technique was the most widely applied.In sum,the significance of the study entails assorted CCHP systems,FCs,their highlights,their applications and their pros and cons in a single reference document that anyone can easily use to holistically understand the characteristics of the CCHP systems.The study concludes with our perspective,by which we formulate and propose an alternative innovative unique CCHP system model under research,which is based exclusively on green tech-nologies:FCs,lithium-ion battery,ultracapacitor,thermoelectricity and an energy-management system using MATLAB■. 展开更多

Feasibility Analysis of the Operation Strategies for Combined Cooling, Heating and Power Systems (CCHP) based on the Energy-Matching Regime 被引量:1

Although numerous studies have considered the two traditional operation strategies:following the electric load(FEL)and following the thermal load(FTL),for combined cooling,heating,and power(CCHP)systems in different case studies,there are limited theoretical studies on the quantification methods to assess the feasibility of these two strategies in different load demands scenarios.Therefore,instead of a case study,we have undertaken a theoretical analysis of the suitable application scenarios for FEL and FTL strategies based on the energy-matching performance between systems'provision and users'demands.To compare the calculation models of energy saving rate(ESR)for FEL and FTL strategies in the left and right sub-regions of the energy-supply curve,a comprehensive parameter(^)that combines three inherently influential factors(off-design operation parameter,energy-matching parameter,and install capacity coefficient)is defined to determine the optimal installed capacity and feasibility of FEL or FTL strategies quantitatively.The results indicate that greater value of x contribute to a better energy saving performance,and FEL strategy shows better performance than FTL in most load demands scenarios,and the optimal installed capacity occurs when the load demand points were located in different regions of the energy-supply curve.Finally,taking a hotel in Beijing as an example,the value of the optimal install capacity coefficient is 0.845 and the FEL strategy is also suggested,and compared to the maximum install capacity,the average values of the ESR on a typical summer day,transition season,and winter can be enhanced by 3.9%,8.8%,and 1.89%,respectively. 展开更多

A proper operating strategy is helpful to improve the off-design performance of combined cooling,heating and power(CCHP)systems,providing high efficiency and low emission.The energy level difference graphic analysis method is used to identify energy level as well as exergy destruction of the part-load process.This method illustrates the energy efficiency upgrading mechanism of the flue gas reinjecting(FGR)operating strategy.It is referenced to a reducing turbine inlet temperature(TIT)operating strategy.By comparison,the FGR operating strategy leads to a 2.62%exergy distribution reduction in a gas turbine at an 85%load level due to the decrease of the energy level difference.When the output power is reduced further,the FGR operating strategy is supplanted by the TIT operating strategy with the limit of compressor inlet temperature.However,the opposite results of exergy distribution are presented in the exhaust-heat recovery devices.A heat-driven refrigeration and power cycle is introduced in a typical CCHP system as a solution.Moreover,the results suggest that the operational flexibility of the CCHP system is improved by enlarging the ratio of cooling to electricity. 展开更多
