Validation Study on Listening Test in Newly Reformed CET- 6: A Case Study of CET-6 Official Sample

Listening Comprehension test of CET-6 has a great adjustment in its item types and weighting of score since December,2015, however, there have been few researches concerning the validity of newly innovated CET-6 listening comprehension test.This paper tries to explore the construct validity and content validity of it. Based on the comparison between the test contents of lis-tening and the test requirements in CET syllabus,it is found that CET-6 listening shows good content relevance. Structural equa-tion modeling(SEM) was used to investigate the construct validity of CET-6 listening, which demonstrates that it mainly tests stu-dents' ability to understand details and inference, while ignoring socio-linguistic competence and psych-physiological compe-tence. Therefore, certain changes are desirable to increase the validity of the listening part of CET-6. 展开更多

Due to the increasing importance of English language,China has introduced various English competence tests to assessstudents' English language performance as well as to motivate them to learn this language.Based on the analysis of a corpus com-prised of ten CET-6(College English Test,Band 6) listening tests(transcripts and test papers),this study aims to examine the ef-fects of discourse markers(DMs) in the listening comprehension test in CET-6,thus providing effective listening strategies for stu-dents and also offering pedagogical suggestions for teachers.The findings indicate that understanding the use of DMs is highly relat-ed to better listening comprehension in the tests.This study suggests that both students and teachers should raise their awarenessof DMs' cognitive effects,and also,teachers need to adopt a communicative language teaching method to help students grasp themeaning and usage of DMs. 展开更多

Analysis of Non-English Major College Students’Test Anxiety in CET-4

Test anxiety, which means individuals show excessive worry, nervousness and anxiety in examination contexts, is becoming a more and more common phenomenon. A moderate level of test anxiety will motivate students while... Test anxiety, which means individuals show excessive worry, nervousness and anxiety in examination contexts, is becoming a more and more common phenomenon. A moderate level of test anxiety will motivate students while a too high or too low level of test anxiety will influence students’ academic performance and their cognitive abilities. Most present researches are focused on secondary school students or on the final exam of a specific school. Few researches on college students and standard tests can be found. Therefore, the researcher took 255 college students as samples to investigate the test anxiety level of non-English majors, their attitudes towards different test tasks (ATDTT) and the correlation between them. The results of the research are as follows: Firstly, the students from non-English majors are at the lower of a moderate test anxiety level in CET-4 and there is no significant gender difference. Secondly, among the four sections in CET-4, students are most positive in writing, less positive in translation and reading, and the least positive in listening. Thirdly, students’ ATDTT in CET-4 are negatively correlated with total test anxiety, cognitive anxiety and emotional anxiety. The researcher hopes this research can offer some help to teachers and students in need. 展开更多
