The conversion of CO2 into useful substances is essential in developing alternative fuels and various raw materials for different industries. This also aids in preventing the continuous rise in tropospheric temperature due to the green house effect of CO2. In this article an overview of the growth taken place so far in the field of CO2 chemical reduction is pre- sented. The discussion comprises of photochemical methods for the development of different products, viz. CO, CH3OH and CH4, through chemical reduction of CO2. This includes the use of photo catalysts, mainly TiO2, and the role of a hole scavenger (such as 2-propanol) for this purpose.展开更多

In this review, we introduce the recent progresses on the electrochemical reduction of COin solid oxide electrolysis cells(SOECs). At high temperature, only CO is produced with high current densities and Faradic efficiency while the reactor is complicated and a better sealing technique is urgently needed. The typical electrolytes such as zirconia-based oxides, ceria-based oxides and lanthanum gallates-based oxides, anodes and cathodes are introduced in this review, and the cathode materials, such as conventional metal–ceramics(cermets), mixed ionic and electronic conductors(MIECs) are discussed in detail. In the future, to gain more value-added products, the electrolyte, cathode and anode materials should be developed to allow SOECs to be operated at temperature range of 573–873 K. At those temperatures, SOECs may combine the advantages of the low temperature system and the high temperature system to produce various products with high current densities.展开更多

Herein, we presented N and S dual-doped high-surface-area carbon materials(SZ-HCN) as CO2 RR catalysts. N and S were doped by one-step pyrolysis of a N-containing polymer and S powder. ZnCl2 was applied as a volatile porogen to prepare porous SZ-HCN. SZ-HCN with a high specific surface area(1510 m2 g–1) exhibited efficient electrocatalytic activity and selectivity for CO2 RR. Electrochemical measurements demonstrated that SZ-HCN showed excellent catalytic performance for CO2-to-CO reduction with a high CO Faradaic efficiency(~93%) at-0.6 V. Furthermore, SZ-HCN offered a stable current density and high CO selectivity over at least 20 h continuous operation, revealing remarkable electrocatalytic durability. The experimental results and density functional theory calculations indicated that N and S dual-doped carbon materials required lower Gibbs free energy to form the COOH* intermediate than that for single-N-doped carbon for CO2-to-CO reduction, thereby enhancing CO2 RR activity.展开更多

However, due to the water spray nozzle need to be installed on the cylinder, which increases the cylinder head design difficulty and makes the combustion conditions become more complicated. In this paper, a new method is presented to carry out the closing inlet and exhaust system for internal combustion engines. The proposed new method uses liquid oxygen to solidify part of cooled CO2 from exhaust system into dry ice and the liquid oxygen turns into gas oxygen which is sent to inlet system. The other part of CO2 is sent to inlet system and mixed with oxygen, which can reduce the oxygen-enriched combustion detonation tendency and make combustion stable. Computing grid of the IP52FMI single-cylinder four-stroke gasoline-engine is established according to the actual shape of the combustion chamber using KIVA-3V program. The effects of exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) rate are analyzed on the temperatures, the pressures and the instantaneous heat release rates when the EGR rate is more than 8%. The possibility of enclosing intake and exhaust system for engine is verified. The carbon dioxide trapping device is designed and the IP52FMI engine is transformed and the CO2 capture experiment is carried out. The experimental results show that when the EGR rate is 36% for the optimum EGR rate. When the liquid oxygen of 35.80-437.40 g is imported into the device and last 1-20 min, respectively, 21.50-701.30 g dry ice is obtained. This research proposes a new design method which can capture CO2 for vehicular internal combustion engine.展开更多

文摘The solar-driven catalytic conversion of CO2 to useful chemical fuels is regarded as an environmentally friendly approach to reduce the consumption of fossil fuels and mitigate the greenhouse effect. However,it is highly intriguing and challenging to promote the selectivity and efficiency of visible-light-responsive photocatalysts that favor the adsorption of CO2 in photoreduction processes. In this work,three-dimensional hierarchical Cd0.8Zn0.2S flowers(C8Z2S-F)with ultrathin petals were successfully synthesized through an in-situ self-assembly growth process using sodium citrate as a morphology director. The flower-like Cd0.8Zn0.2S solid solution exhibited remarkable photocatalytic performance in the reduction of CO2,generating CO up to 41.4μmol g^−1 under visible-light illumination for 3 h;this was nearly three times greater than that of Cd0.8Zn0.2S nanoparticles(C8Z2S-NP)(14.7μmol g^−1).Particularly,a comparably high selectivity of 89.9%for the conversion of CO2 to CO,with a turnover number of 39.6,was obtained from the solar-driven C8Z2S-F system in the absence of any co-catalyst or sacrificial agent.Terahertz time-domain spectroscopy indicated that the introduction of flower structures enhanced the light-harvesting capacity of C8Z2S-F.The in situ diffuse reflectance infrared Fourier transform spectroscopy unveiled the existence of surface-adsorbed species and the conversion of photoreduction intermediates during the photocatalytic process.Empirical characterizations and predictions of the photocatalytic mechanism demonstrated that the flower-like Cd0.8Zn0.2S solid solution possessed desirable CO2 adsorption properties and an enhanced charge-transfer capability, thus providing a highly effective photocatalytic reduction of CO2.
文摘The chemical reduction of CO2 remains a challenge with respect to the reversal of the oxidative degradation of any organic materials. This includes the use of photo catalysts, mainly TiO2, and the role of a hole scavenger (such as 2-propanol) for this purpose.

文摘Electrocatalytic carbon dioxide(CO2)reduction(ECR)has become one of the main methods to close the broken carbon cycle and temporarily store renewable energy, but there are still some problems such as poor stability, low activity, and selectivity. While the most promising strategy to improve ECR activity is to develop electrocatalysts with low cost, high activity, and long-term stability.Recently, defective carbon-based nanomaterials have attracted extensive attention due to the unbalanced electron distribution and electronic structural distortion caused by the defects on the carbon materials. Here, the present review mainly summarizes the latest research progress of the construction of the diverse types of defects(intrinsic carbon defects, heteroatom doping defects, metal atomic sites, and edges detects)for carbon materials in ECR,and unveil the structure-activity relationship and its catalytic mechanism. The current challenges and opportunities faced by high-performance carbon materials in ECR are discussed,as well as possible future solutions. It can be believed that this review can provide some inspiration for the future of development of high-performance ECR catalysts.
文摘Low optical absorption and photocorrosion are two crucial issues limiting the practical applications of zinc oxide(ZnO)-based photocatalysts. In this paper,we report the fabrication of graphitic-carbon-mediated ZnO nanorod arrays(NRAs)with enhanced photocatalytic activity and photostability for CO2 reduction under visible light irradiation.ZnO NRA/C-x(x=005,01,02,and 03)nanohybrids are prepared by calcining pre-synthesized ZnO NRAs with different amounts of glucose(0.05,0.1,0.2,and 0.3 g)as a carbon source via a hydrothermal method.X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy reveals that the obtained ZnO NRA/C-x nanohybrids are imparted with the effects of both carbon doping and carbon coating,as evidenced by the detected C-O-Zn bond and the C-C,C-O and C=O bonds, respectively. While the basic structure of ZnO remains unchanged, the UV-Vis absorption spectra show increased absorbance owing to the carbon doping effect in the ZnO NRA/C-x nanohybrids. The photoluminescence(PL)intensities of ZnO NRA/C-x nanohybrids are lower than that of bare ZnO NRA,indicating that the graphitic carbon layer coated on the surface of the ZnO NRA significantly enhances the charge carrier separation and transport, which in turn enhances the photoelectrochemical property and photocatalytic activity of the ZnO NRA/C-x nanohybrids for CO2 reduction.More importantly,a long-term reaction of photocatalytic CO2 reduction demonstrates that the photostability of ZnO NRA/C-x nanohybrids is significantly increased in comparison with the bare ZnO NRA.
文摘Photocatalysis has become a focal point in research as a clean and sustainable technology with the potential to solve environmental problems and energy crises. The loading of noble-metal co-catalysts can substantially improve the photocatalytic efficiency of semiconductors.Because the high cost and scarcity of noble metals markedly limit their large-scale applications, finding a noble-metal-alternative co-catalyst is crucial.MXene,a novel 2D transition metal material, has attracted considerable attention as a promising substitute for noble metal co-catalysts owing to its cost-efficiency,unique 2D layered structure, and excellent electrical, optical, and thermodynamic properties. This review focuses on the latest advancements in research on MXenes as co-catalysts in relatively popular photocatalytic applications(hydrogen production,CO2 reduction, nitrogen fixation, and organic pollutant oxidation). The synthesis methods and photocatalytic mechanisms of MXenes as co-catalysts are also summarized according to the type of MXene-based material. Finally, the crucial opportunities and challenges in the prospective development of MXene-based photocatalysts are outlined. We emphasize that modern techniques should be used to demonstrate the effects of MXenes on photocatalysis and that the photocatalytic activity of MXene-based photocatalysts can be further improved using defective engineering and recent phenomena such as the localized surface plasmon resonance effect and single-atom catalysis.

文摘Photoelectrocatalytic reduction of CO2 to fuels has great potential for reducing anthropogenic CO2 emissions and also lessening our dependence on fossil fuel energy.Herein,we report the successful development of a novel photoelectrocatalytic catalyst for the selective reduction of CO2 to methanol, comprising a copper catalyst modified with flower-like cerium oxide nanoparticles(CeO2 NPs)(a n-type semiconductor)and copper oxide nanoparticles(CuO NPs)(a p-type semiconductor). At an applied potential of−1.0 V(vs SCE)under visible light irradiation, the CeO2 NPs/CuO NPs/Cu catalyst yielded methanol at a rate of 3.44μmol cm^−2 h^−1,which was approximately five times higher than that of a CuO NPs/Cu catalyst(0.67μmol cm^−2 h^−1).The carrier concentration increased by^108 times when the flower-like CeO2 NPs were deposited on the CuO NPs/Cu catalyst, due to synergistic transfer of photoexcited electrons from the conduction band of CuO to that of CeO2,which enhanced both photocatalytic and photoelectrocatalytic CO2 reduction on the CeO2 NPs.The facile migration of photoexcited electrons and holes across the p–n heterojunction that formed between the CeO2 and CuO components was thus critical to excellent light-induced CO2 reduction properties of the CeO2 NPs/CuO NPs/Cu catalyst. Results encourage the wider application of composite semiconductor electrodes in carbon dioxide reduction.

文摘Photocatalytic reduction of CO2 with H2 O to syngas is an effective way for producing high value-added chemical feedstocks such as methanol and light olefins in industry.Nevertheless, the precise control of CO/H2 ratio from photocatalytic CO2 reduction reaction still poses a great challenge for the further application.Herein,we prepared a series of highly efficient heterostructure based on highly dispersed palladium supported on ultrathin Co Al-layered double hydroxide(LDH).In conjunction with a Ru-complex sensitizer, the molar ratios of CO/H2 can be tuned from 1:0.74 to 1:3 under visible-light irradiation(λ>400 nm).More interestingly, the syngas can be obtained under light irradiation atλ>600 nm.Structure characterization and density functional theory calculations revealed that the remarkable catalytic activity can be due to the supported palladium, which improved the charge transfer efficiency.Meanwhile, more H atoms were used to generate H2 on the supported palladium for further tunable CO/H2 ratio. This work demonstrates a new strategy for harnessing abundant solar-energy to produce syngas from a CO2 feedstock.

文摘Tin/tin oxide materials are key electrocatalysts for selective conversion of CO;to formate/formic acid.Herein we report a tin oxide material with nitrogen doping by using ammonia treatment at elevated temperature. The N doped material demonstrated enhanced electrocatalytic CO;reduction activity, showing high Faradaic efficiency(90%) for formate at -0.65 V vs. RHE with partial current density of 4 mA/cm;.The catalysis was contributed to increased electron negativity of N atom compared to O atom. Additionally, the N-doped catalyst demonstrates sulfur tolerance with retained formate selectivity. The analysis after electrolysis shows that the catalyst structure partially converts to metallic Sn, and thus the combined Sn/N-SnO;is the key for the active CO;catalysis.

文摘The effort on electrochemical reduction of COto useful chemicals using the renewable energy to drive the process is growing fast recently. At those temperatures, SOECs may combine the advantages of the low temperature system and the high temperature system to produce various products with high current densities.
文摘The active site amount of photocatalysts, being the key factors in photocatalytic reactions, directly affects the photocatalytic performance of the photocatalyst.Pristine graphitic carbon nitride(g‐C_(3)N_(4))exhibits moderate photocatalytic activity due to insufficient active sites. In this study, cyano‐modified porous g‐C_(3)N_(4)nanosheets(MCN‐0.5)were synthesized through molecular self‐assembly and alkali‐assisted strategies. The cyano group acted as the active site of the photocatalytic reaction, because the good electron‐withdrawing property of the cyano group promoted carrier separation.Benefiting from the effect of the active sites,MCN‐0.5 exhibited significantly enhanced photocatalytic activity for CO2 reduction under visible light irradiation.Notably, the photocatalytic activity of MCN‐0.5 was significantly reduced when the cyano groups were removed by hydrochloric acid(HCl)treatment, further verifying the role of cyano groups as active sites. The photoreduction of Pt nanoparticles provided an intuitive indication that the introduction of cyano groups provided more active sites for the photocatalytic reaction.Furthermore, the controlled experiments showed that g‐C_(3)N_(4)grafted with cyano groups using melamine as the precursor exhibited enhanced photocatalytic activity, which proved the versatility of the strategy for enhancing the activity of g‐C_(3)N_(4)via cyano group modification. In situ diffuse reflectance infrared Fourier transform spectroscopy and theoretical calculations were used to investigate the mechanism of enhanced photocatalytic activity for CO2 reduction by cyano‐modified g‐C_(3)N_(4).This work provides a promising route for promoting efficient solar energy conversion by designing active sites in photocatalysts.
文摘Cobalt-based oxides, with high abundance, good stability and excellent catalytic performance, are regarded as promising photocatalysts for artificial photosynthetic systems to alleviate foreseeable energy shortages and global warming.Herein, for the first time,a series of novel spongy porous CDs@CoOx materials were synthesized to act as an efficient and stable bifunctional photocatalyst for water oxidation and CO2 reduction.Notably, the preparation temperatures visibly influence the morphologies and photocatalytic performances of the CDs@CoOx.Under the optimal conditions,a maximum O2 yield of 40.4% and pretty apparent quantum efficiency(AQE)of 58.6% at 460 nm were obtained over CDs@CoOx-300 for water oxidation.Similarly, the optimized sample CDs@CoOx-300 manifests significant enhancement on the CO2-to-CO conversion with a high selectivity of 89.3% and CO generation rate of 8.1μmol/h,which is superior to most previous cobalt-based catalysts for CO2 reduction. The composite CDs@CoOx-300 not only exposes more active sites but also facilitates electron transport, which results in excellent photocatalytic activity. In addition, the boosted photocatalytic behavior is attributed to the synergistic effect between CoOx and CDs,which was verified by the photocatalytic activity control experiments and electrochemical characterization. The work offers a novel strategy to fabricate a high performance bifunctional photocatalyst for water oxidation and CO2 reduction.
文摘The electrochemical reduction of CO2(CO2 RR) can substantially contribute to the production of useful chemicals and reduction of global CO2 emissions. The experimental results and density functional theory calculations indicated that N and S dual-doped carbon materials required lower Gibbs free energy to form the COOH* intermediate than that for single-N-doped carbon for CO2-to-CO reduction, thereby enhancing CO2 RR activity.
文摘The photocatalytic production of syngas using a noble-metal-free catalytic system is a promising approach for renewable energy and environmental sustainability. In this study,we demonstrate an efficient catalytic system formed by integrating Co single sites, which act as the active sites,in covalent triazine frameworks(CTFs),which act as the photoabsorber, for the photocatalytic production of syngas from CO2 in aqueous solution. The enhanced light absorption of the CTFs,which contain intramolecular heterojunctions,in conjunction with 0.8 mmol L^‒1 of the Co complex enables excellent syngas production with a yield of 3303μmol g‒1(CO:H2=1.4:1)in 10 h,which is about three times greater than that achieved using CTF without a heterojunction. In the photocatalytic reaction, the coordinated single Co centers accept the photogenerated electrons from the CTF,and serve as active sites for CO2 conversion through an adsorption-activation-reaction mechanism.Theoretical calculations further reveal that the intramolecular heterojunctions highly promote photogenerated charge separation, thus boosting photocatalytic syngas production. This work reveals the promising potential of CTFs for single-metal-site-based photocatalysis.

文摘For capturing and recycling of CO2 in the internal combustion engine, Rankle cycle engine can reduce the exhaust pollutants effectively under the condition of ensuring the engine thermal efficiency by using the techniques of spraying water in the cylinder and optimizing the ignition advance angle. This research proposes a new design method which can capture CO2 for vehicular internal combustion engine.
