Background:COVID-19 has had a dramatic impact on human health, economies, societies, and livelihoods around the world.Traditional Chinese medicine(TCM)formulae have played an important role in the prevention and treatment of COVID-19.WHO evaluated the role of TCM in treating of COVID-19 and encouraged other countries to promote the use of TCM formulae. However, the key is to find the basic core traditional Chinese medicine(BC-TCM)among those formulae. Methods:For the first time,we mined the data of TCM formulae in CNIPA and analyzed herb characteristics and association rules. We then determined the BC-TCM and screened main compounds and therapeutic targets. Finally, the potential molecular mechanisms were explored by using enrichment analyses and molecular docking. Results:This study screened 123 patented TCM formulae, including 312 herbs.According to frequency statistics and association rules, nine herbs(Gan Cao,Jin Yinhua,Guang Huoxiang,Fu Ling,Huang Qi,Jie Geng,Lian Qiao,Cang Zhu,Ku Xingren)were selected as the BC-TCM.The BC-TCM involved 166 main compounds and 48 therapeutic targets. The active compounds Hederagenin,Spinasterol,Beta-sitosterol,and Liquiritin had high binding activity to the COVID-19 targets 3CL,ACE2,and core targets RELA,HSP90AA1,STAT3,MAPK3,and TP53 according to molecular docking results.Interestingly,Hederagenin might be a potential compound for the prevention and treatment of COVID-19.Conclusion:Our research predicted and confirmed the preventive therapeutic effect of BC-TCM on COVID-19.This has the potential to broaden the scope of TCM,guide people in using clinical formulae, and provide valuable insights for future TCM discovery research. 展开更多

Traditional Chinese Medicine has played an important role in the prevention and treatment of the Corona Virus Disease 2019 epidemic. But in views of different TCM scholars there are different opinions about disease name, characteristic of etiology, law of pathogenesis about this epidemic.Based on related literatures, this article overviews of the characteristics of TCM etiology, law of pathogenesis and methods of syndrome differentiation, hoping to find research method that fit in with TCM clinical practice.Prerequisite of treatment is identifying the cause. The clinical manifestations of patients are important to TCM,and the etiological attributes can be inferred from the clinical manifestations.SARS-CoV-2 belongs to exogenous etiological factors, but there are different opinions about its characteristics of six pathogenic factors.Cold,Dampness,Warm,Dry,Toxin,Summer-heat,Wind,are all involved. Thus, different understanding of the pathogenesis and the law of transmission is caused.Such as cold and dampness hurt Yang, furthermore, consumed of Qi;dampness and toxin infected from external environment, turbid dampness produced inside the body;dryness affecting lungs and consume of Yin;warm-heat-turbid-toxin affected lungs, stomach and intestine;and then produced phlegm stagnation or blood stasis, furthermore consumed Qi and Yin.Based on those differences, methods of syndrome differentiation in treatment of COVID-19 are diverse, which contain pattern differentiation of zang-fu organs, pattern differentiation of Wei-defence,Qi,Ying nutrients and blood;pattern differentiation by the eight principles, and pattern differentiation of six meridians.Because of SARS-CoV-2 can spread to the whole country or even the whole world in a short period of time, its pathogenic nature should be roughly the same.So studying the treatment of COVID-19 based on clinical cases, refining the similarities and differences in the clinical presentation of patients with different subtypes during the epidemic, clarification of the etiologic attribution and evolutionary patterns of disease mechanisms, developing a comprehensive understanding of COVID-19 in Chinese medicine is needed.Furthermore, getting a full understanding of COVID-19,and providing reference for the prevention and treatment of unknown infectious diseases. 展开更多

Chinese guideline has proven effective in the fight against coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)during the global spread of the epidemic.Traditional Chinese medicine(TCM)is widely recognized for its effectiveness in alleviating symptoms, inhibiting disease progress, reducing mortality, and improving the cure rate of patients with COVID-19.During the pandemic,“three medicines and three formulas”(TMTFs)stood out from hundreds of others in registered clinical studies, which became highly recommended as TCM for COVID-19 treatment. The TMTFs not only effectively relieve the clinical symptoms of fever, cough, fatigue, and phlegm, but also substantially shorten the time of nucleic acid negative conversion, improve lung computed tomography imaging features and inflammation, ameliorate clinical biochemical indicators, and reduce sequelae.Their potential pharmacological mechanisms are mainly related to the crosstalk between viral toxicity, endothelial damage, cytokine storm, immune response, and microthrombus. In brief, the clinical effects and the potential mechanisms of TMTFs on COVID-19 were systematically analyzed and summarized covering the entirety of disease development, including virus invasion and replication, immune response and cytokine storm, and acute respiratory distress syndrome and multiple organ dysfunction syndrome. This review provides a theoretical basis and reference for the in-depth understanding of the positive role of TMTFs in COVID-19 treatment. 展开更多

Objective: To evaluate the COVID-19 vaccination status and related characteristics of Turkish healthcare workers practicing chest medicine. Methods: A cross-sectional online survey was conducted among the Turkish Thoracic Society members. The survey was started on May 17, 2021, and kept open for seven weeks. The 39-item survey included the COVID-19 vaccination status and demographic, clinical, and occupational characteristics. Results: Of 378 healthcare workers participated in the survey, 354(93.7%) reported receiving at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine. A total of 323(91.2%) healthcare workers received CoronaVac vs. BioNTech/Pfizer in 31(8.8%). In the CoronaVac group, 77(23.8%) contracted COVID-19 when not fully vaccinated, and 13(4.0%) when fully vaccinated;however, 16(51.6%) healthcare workers in the BioNTech/Pfizer group got COVID-19 when not fully vaccinated, but any fully vaccinated participants did not contract COVID-19(P=0.003). Regarding vaccine dosing, 328(86.8%) were fully vaccinated, while 50(13.2%) were not. Multiple regression analysis for being a non-fully vaccinated healthcare worker demonstrated a significant relationship with having any SARS-CoV-2 infection history(adjusted OR 9.57, 95% CI 3.93-23.26, P<0.001) and being a non-physician healthcare worker(adjusted OR 5.86, 95% CI 2.11-16.26, P=0.001), but a significant negative relationship with full-time working at the time of survey(adjusted OR 0.13, 95% CI 0.03-0.56, P=0.006). Conclusions: Although a majority of healthcare workers were fully vaccinated, occupational and non-occupational characteristics were related to being non-fully vaccinated. Active surveillance regarding the COVID-19 vaccination in healthcare workers is necessary to address specific parameters as barriers to vaccination. 展开更多

It is a respiratory tropism SARS COV 2 infection. In the emergency of the pandemic, in medical imaging, only computed tomography (CT) of the lungs was favored to assess lung lesions. In addition, many cases of post-COVID-19 cognitive disorders have been reported. As the curve dips and services restart correctly, other imaging techniques have been used to better explore the disease. The objective of this presentation is to illustrate the contribution of metabolic imaging in the exploration of post COVID-19 cognitive disorders and to discuss the pathophysiological mechanisms. Hypometabolism brain lesions are objective signs of functional impairment whose pathophysiological mechanism is not yet fully understood. Metabolic imaging with PET-SCAN is a suitable tool for exploring these disorders, both for the severity and extent of the lesions and for the topography of the brain damage. 展开更多

Aims: The present study aims to compare the assessment of work ability based on the use of the Work Ability Index (WAI) with another questionnaire base only on the use of WAI’s first item, termed as the “Work Ability Score” (WAS). Study design: A cohort of 384 Spanish workers included in a Post COVID-19 condition or persistent COVID-19 multicenter research was utilized. Place and Duration of Study: This cohort was enlisted in four hospitals (Hospital Universitario 12 de Octubre, Madrid;Hospital Universitario Virgen Macarena, Sevilla, Andalucía;Hospital Universitario Gregorio Marañón, Madrid and Complejo Asistencial Universitario de Salamanca, Castilla y León), since 2021 until 2022. Methodology: 384 Spanish workers (176 men and 208 women;aged 20 to 70 years) with Post COVID-19 condition or persistent COVID-19 were included. Descriptive analysis of primary scores was conducted. Given the non-normal distribution of data, the Mann-Whitney and Kruskal-Wallis tests were employed. Spearman and Kendall correlations were employed to assess the relationship between WAI and WAS, also used weighted Kappa to estimate the degree agreement between WAI and WAS. Logistic regression models were utilized to study determinants influencing WAI and WAS, categorized as poor or moderate. Results: WAI had an average score of 32.98 (SD = 10.28), whereas WAS had an average of 5.95 (SD = 2.77). Significant differences were observed in both WAI and WAS across the same variables. Strong and statistically significant correlations were evident between WAI and WAS (rs = 0.83, p < 0.001). All the variables used in the logistic regression model (gender, the sector employment, and previous chronic diseases) were statistically significant in both questionnaires. Conclusion: WAS questionnaire could be used as a tool for reliable assessment of work ability among Spanish workers with Post COVID-19 condition or Persistent CO-VID-19. 展开更多

Coronaviruses exist widely in nature, can cause cross-species transmission, and pose serious threats to human and animal health.Over the past 20 years, coronaviruses have led to three major epidemics that have caused global panic, including severe acute respiratory syndrome,Middle East respiratory syndrome, and coronavirus disease-19.At present, coronavirus disease 19 not only spreads rapidly, but also mutates easily to escape host immune response, becoming more pathogenic. At present, there are no effective specific therapeutic drugs or vaccines.Drugs targeting severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 and the host cell defense system that have been developed based on the structure and replication cycle of coronaviruses have a certain broad-spectrum antiviral effect;however, their efficacy still needs to be demonstrated in further clinical trials.Traditional Chinese medicine has an indispensable role in the ongoing response to coronavirus disease-19.Anti-virus treatment with traditional Chinese medicine has advantages such as broad-spectrum application, low toxicity and side effects, low susceptibility to drug resistance, and overall comprehensive regulation. Therefore, researches on effective components and mechanisms of action of the anti-viral effects of traditional Chinese medicine have increasingly gained attention. The present paper examines coronaviruses, specifically summarizing the genomes, replication mechanisms, and mutant strains.Afterward, the therapeutic effects and mechanisms of action of modern broad-spectrum anti-coronavirus drugs and traditional Chinese medicine are summarized.By considering the virus and the targets in the host comprehensively,in addition to the beneficial multi-target and multi-path antiviral effects of traditional Chinese medicines, this paper could guide the development of treatment strategies for broad-spectrum anti-coronavirus traditional Chinese medicines, and could facilitate the modernization and globalization of traditional Chinese medicine. 展开更多

Respiratory symptoms are most commonly experienced by patients in the early stages of novel coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). However, with a better understanding of COVID-19, gastrointestinal symptoms such as diarrhea, nausea, and vomiting haveattracted increasing attention. The gastrointestinal tract may be a target organ of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection. The intestinal microecological balance is a crucial factor for homeostasis, including immunity andinflammation, which are closely related to COVID-19. Herbal medicine can restore intestinal function and regulate the gut florastructure. Herbal medicine has a long history of treating lung diseases from the perspective of the intestine, which is called thegut-lung axis. The physiological activities of guts and lungs influence each other through intestinal flora, microflora metabolites, and mucosal immunity. Microecological modulators are included in the diagnosis and treatment protocols for COVID-19. Inthis review, we demonstrate the relationship between COVID-19 and the gut, gut-lung axis, and the role of herbal medicine intreating respiratory diseases originating from the intestinal tract. It is expected that the significance of herbal medicine in treatingrespiratory diseases from the perspective of the intestinal tract could lead to new ideas and methods for treatment. 展开更多

BACKGROUND Since February 2021,vaccination against coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 has started in Korea.AIM To perform a questionnaire survey about the prevention and management of adverse events of COVID-19 vaccination among public health doctors of Korean Medicine(PHKMDs).METHODS An online questionnaire was developed, comprising categories about adverse events of vaccination(AEVs)and perception of using Korean medicine(KM)in managing vaccine adverse events(AEs)among PHKMDs.PHKMDs’experience of AEVs,usage of Korean medicine for AEVs,and perception and attitude in using KM for AEVs were surveyed. The survey web-link was emailed to the association of PHKMDs.Online links were sent through Survey Monkey to all PHKMDs in Korea.RESULTS A total of 143 participants were recruited for this study;65%of participants were vaccinated at the same of the survey(n=93).Although most participants did not take any medication for prevention of the adverse events,62%(n=58)of participants had taken herbal medicine to treat the adverse events(n=52).Approximately 35%of participants(n=33)said that they would recommend taking herbal medicine to prevent any AEVs.From various KM interventions, the participants strongly recommended taking an herbal medicine(n=69,74.19%)to treat AEs,and the second-highest was acupuncture treatment(n=19,20.43%).CONCLUSION Overall, this research demonstrated a high prevalence of KM usage by the PHKMDs.Hence, this study’s results may serve as fundamental evidence for health professionals to consider using KM treatments when treating or preventing AEVs in the near future. 展开更多
