The effects of Ca2+ concentrations on the accumulation of mineral elements in the bark, leaf and root of Pteroceltis tatarinowii were studied under controlled condi-tions. The types of Hoagland nutrient solution with three Ca2+ concentrations levels (200, 400 and 600 靏g-1) and a control (without Ca2+) were designed to culture Pteroceltis tatarinowii. After 6 months, contents of seven mineral elements including Ca, K, Mg, Mn, Zn, Cu and Na in the root, leaf and bark were analyzed. The results indicated that Ca accumulations content in the root, leaf and bark had positively relation with Ca2+ concentrations (200, 400, 600 靏g-1), and the order of the Ca content in the three components was root】leaf】bark. Ca content in the root treated with 600 靏g-1 Ca2+ concentrations was 5.5 times as high as that of the control, and about 1.4 times as high as that of the root treated in 200 and 400 靏/g Ca2+ concentrations respectively. On the contrary, K and Mg contents in the root, leaf and bark were negatively related to Ca2+ concentrations, especially in the bark, and their accumulation trend followed the order of leaf】root】bark. K content in the bark treated with 600 靏g-1 Ca2+ con-centrations was 39.3% of that of the control, and was 79.0% and 91.8% of that of the bark treated with 200 靏g-1 and 400靏g-1 Ca2+ concentrations respectively; Mg content in the bark treated with 600 靏g-1 Ca2+ concentrations was 23.4% of that of the control, and was 27.1% and 35.4% of that of the bark treated with 200 and 400 靏g-1 Ca2+ concentrations respectively. Com-pared with the control, the general tendency of Mn, Zn and Cu content decreased with increasing of Ca2+ concentrations and their contents were in the order: root】leaf】bark. Based on the results of this study, the experiment has been useful for providing academic bases in improving the bark quality of Pteroceltis tatarinowii on non-limestone soil.展开更多

METHODS:Seventy newly diagnosed CRC patients were included. The healthy control group was age and gender matched(n=32).Particular attention was devoted to the relationship between serum calcium of patients, and levels of AFP,CEA,carbohydrate antigen 19-9(CA 19-9)(that could be considered as prognostic factors).Furthermore, the Ca-sensing receptor(CaSR)gene A986S polymorphism was investigated in these patients,as well as the relationship between different CaSR genotypes and the data stated above. RESULTS:A lower level of ionized calcium(also corrected for albumin)was found in the serum of CRC patients with normal 25(OH)vitamin D levels. The ionized calcium concentration was inversely correlated with the serum level of CA.19-9.There was no difference in the distribution of CaSR genotypes, between CRC patients and general population. The genotypes did not correlate with other data examined. CONCLUSION:Based on these results, lower levels of serum calcium might be a pathogenic and prognostic factor in colorectal cancer.展开更多

The calculations are performed in an effective Lagrangian with a parameter set , which was proposed for satisfactorily describing nuclear ground state properties. It is found that a soft isovector dipole mode for Ca isotopes near drip lines exists at energy around . The soft dipole states are mainly due to the excitation of the weakly bound and pure neutron (proton) states near Fermi surface as well as the correlation of isoscalar and isovector operators. For nuclei with the extreme value of , the contributions of isoscalar mesons in the isovector mode play a non-negligible role.展开更多

The Sn to Ca mass ratio up to 2.5 contributes to the formation of Mg2Ca phase at the grain boundaries and CaMgSn in the matrix, while a ratio of 3 gives only CaMgSn phase mostly in the matrix. While the compressive strength decreases with the increase in temperature, for Sn/Ca up to 2.5, a plateau occurs in 100-175 °C, which is attributed to the strengthening by Mg2Ca. However, for ratio of 3, the strength is lower and decreases more gradually. Mg-3Sn-2Ca (TX32) has the highest strength and the addition of 0.4%Al increases its strength but simultaneous addition of Si lowers the strength. Likewise, the addition of Zn improves its strength but simultaneous addition of Al slightly decreases the strength. The results are correlated with the types of intermetallic phases that form in various alloys.展开更多

Our records reveal a lead-lag relationship between paired Mg/Ca-SST and δ18O during Termination II and the last interglacial period. Similarity in SST between our site and the Antarctic temperature proxy and in CO2 profile showed a close connection between the WPWP and the Antarctic. Values of 818Osw exhibited very similar variations to those of mean ocean δ18Osw, owing to the past sea-level changes on glacial-interglacial timescale. Calculated values of δ18O reflect a more saline condition during high local summer insolation (SI) periods. Such correspondence between δ18O and local SI in the WPWP may reflect complex interaction between ENSO and monsoon, which was stimulated by changes in solar irradiance and their influence on the local hydrologic cycle. This then caused a striking reorganization of atmospheric circulation over the WPWP.展开更多

However, the molecular regulation of the spark generator, the ryanodine receptor (RyR) on the sarcoplasmic reticulum, remains obscure. Although each subunit of the RyR homotetramer has a site for FKS06-binding protein (FKBP), the role of FKBPs in modifying RyR Ca^2+ sparks has been debated for long. One of the reasons behind the controversy is that most previous studies detect spontaneous sparks, where the mixture with out-of-focus events and local wavelets prevents an accurate characterization of Ca^2+ sparks. In the pre- sent study, we detected Ca^2+ sparks triggered by single L-type Ca^2+ channels (LCCs) under loose-seal patch clamp conditions in FKS06-treated or FKBPI2.6 knockout cardiomyocytes. We found that FKBP dissociation both by FKS06 and by rapamycin decreased the Ca^2+ spark amplitude in ventricular cardiomyocytes. This change was neither due to decreased releasable Ca^2+ in the sarcoplasmic reticulum, nor explained by changed RyR sensitivity. Actually FKS06 increased the LCC-RyR coupling probability and curtailed the latency for an LCC to trigger a RyR Ca^2+ spark. FKBP12.6 knockout had similar effects as FKS06/rapamycin treatment, indicating that the decreased spark amplitude was attributable to the dissociation of FKBP12.6 rather than FKBP12. We also explained how decreased amplitude of spontaneous sparks after FKBP dissociation sometimes appears to be increased or unchanged due to inappropriate data processing. Our results provided firm evidence that without the inter-RyR coordination by functional FKBP12.6, the RyR recruitment during a Ca^2+ spark would be compromised despite the sensitization of individual RyRs.展开更多

However, little is known regarding the molecular signals that are in- volved in neural plasticity following willed-movement training. To investigate the potential signals related to neural plasticity following willed-movement training, littermate rats were randomly assigned into three groups: middle cerebral artery occlusion, environmental modification, and willed-movement training. The infarct volume was measured 18 d after occlusion of the right middle cerebral artery. Reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and im- munofluorescence staining were used to detect the changes in the signal transducer and activator of transcription 3 (STAT3) mRNA and protein, respectively. A chromatin immunoprecipitation was used to investigate whether STAT3 bound to plasticity-related genes, such as brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF), synaptophysin, and protein in- teracting with C kinase 1 (PICK1). In this study, we demonstrated that STAT3 mRNA and protein were markedly increased following 15-d willed-movement training in the ischemic hemispheres of the treated rats. STAT3 bound to BDNF, PICK1, and synaptophysin promoters in the neocortical cells of rats. These data suggest that the increased STAT3 levels after willed-movement training might play critical roles in the neural plasticity by directly regulating plasticity-related genes.展开更多
