In the past two decades,there has been a lot of work on computer vision technology that incorporates many tasks which implement basic filtering to image classification.Themajor research areas of this field include object detection and object recognition.Moreover,wireless communication technologies are presently adopted and they have impacted the way of education that has been changed.There are different phases of changes in the traditional system.Perception of three-dimensional(3D)from two-dimensional(2D)image is one of the demanding tasks.Because human can easily perceive but making 3D using software will take time manually.Firstly,the blackboard has been replaced by projectors and other digital screens so such that people can understand the concept better through visualization.Secondly,the computer labs in schools are now more common than ever.Thirdly,online classes have become a reality.However,transferring to online education or e-learning is not without challenges.Therefore,we propose a method for improving the efficiency of e-learning.Our proposed system consists of twoand-a-half dimensional(2.5D)features extraction using machine learning and image processing.Then,these features are utilized to generate 3D mesh using ellipsoidal deformation method.After that,3D bounding box estimation is applied.Our results show that there is a need to move to 3D virtual reality(VR)with haptic sensors in the field of e-learning for a better understanding of real-world objects.Thus,people will have more information as compared to the traditional or simple online education tools.We compare our result with the ShapeNet dataset to check the accuracy of our proposed method.Our proposed system achieved an accuracy of 90.77%on plane class,85.72%on chair class,and car class have 72.14%.Mean accuracy of our method is 70.89%. 展开更多

Due to the recently increased requirements of e-learning systems,multiple educational institutes such as kindergarten have transformed their learning towards virtual education.Automated student health exercise is a difficult task but an important one due to the physical education needs especially in young learners.The proposed system focuses on the necessary implementation of student health exercise recognition(SHER)using a modified Quaternion-basedfilter for inertial data refining and data fusion as the pre-processing steps.Further,cleansed data has been segmented using an overlapping windowing approach followed by patterns identification in the form of static and kinematic signal patterns.Furthermore,these patterns have been utilized to extract cues for both patterned signals,which are further optimized using Fisher’s linear discriminant analysis(FLDA)technique.Finally,the physical exercise activities have been categorized using extended Kalmanfilter(EKF)-based neural networks.This system can be implemented in multiple educational establishments including intelligent training systems,virtual mentors,smart simulations,and interactive learning management methods. 展开更多

E-learning platforms support education systems worldwide, transferring theoretical knowledge as well as soft skills. In the present study high-school pupils’, and adult students’ opinions were evaluated through a modern structured MOODLE interactive course, designed for the needs of the laboratory course “Automotive Systems”. The study concerns Greek secondary vocational education pupils aged 18 and vocational training adult students aged 20 to 50 years. The multistage, equal size simple random cluster sample was used as a sampling method. Pupils and adult students of each cluster completed structured 10-question questionnaires both before and after attending the course. A total of 120 questionnaires were collected. In general, our findings disclosed that the majority of pupils and adult students had significantly improved their knowledge and skills from using MOODLE. They reported strengthening conventional teaching, using the new MOODLE technology. The satisfaction indices improved quite, with the differences in their mean values being statistically significant. 展开更多

This paper presents a V-model of e-learning using the well-known Gagne nine steps for quality education. Our suggested model is based on our experience at the computer engineering departments at AL-Hussein Bin Talal University, the University of Jordan and Albalqa Applied University. We applied the recommendations of the nine steps methodology to the e-learning environment. The V model suggested in this paper came up as a result of such application. Although this V model can be subject to some tuning and development in the future it proved to be highly efficient and easy to implement for the teacher and the student. 展开更多

This paper describes the kind of engagement and emergent learning that happened in three different sections of a graduate nursing course. Three nursing educators used an e-learning platform called Daagu that was developed by faculty guided by complexity pedagogy. A total of 43 students were enrolled in the full credit foundations course in theory and philosophy. Authors describe two specific instances of emergent learning: one was expressed by students in relation to a particular resource (article, TedTalk, YouTube, Poem) or discussion, and the second is in relation to specific “aha moments” or shifts in understanding that changed student attitudes and actions. Quotes of emergent learning provide a source of narrative data for conversing about and developing quality e-learning platforms for students and educators. 展开更多

Efficacy and Usability of an E-Learning Program for Fostering Qualified Disease Management Nurses

A single-group pre-test and post-test design was used. Nurses who worked at a medical institution or a disease management company were included, and the duration of the program was set 2 months. We developed the program so that it could grow attitude and improve knowledge and skills in disease management and patient education. Of 55 subjects, 48 who completed the program were analyzed. After the program, subjects increased knowledge and interests in disease management and patient education. Almost of the subjects answered that e-learning was a good learning method. Our program was effective at enhancing subject’s interests in disease management and patient education, and considered to improve their skills in the future. 展开更多

The Deaf Literacy (DEAFLI): A European Project for Young and Adult Deaf People E-learning

DEAFLI is a 10-lesson course designed to enhance the acquisiti... DEAFLI is a GRUNDTVIG project (538750-LLP-1-2013-1-ES) thought to help deaf people improve their language skills and their chances to access employment. DEAFLI is a 10-lesson course designed to enhance the acquisition of key competences in written language by young deaf people and deaf adults. DEAFLI aims to improve their education and to facilitate their access to the labour market in the countries taking part in the project (Spain, Austria, Italy and the UK), therefore, materials and resources will be developed for this purpose. DEAFLI uses multimedia technology for teaching and learning activities, incorporating a learning platform with an open forum and a DVD. Each partner develops their share of the lessons which are then adapted to the different languages of the consortium (Catalan, Italian, English and German), and the four sign languages of the countries belonging to the partnership: LSC (Catalan Sign Language), LIS (Italian Sign Language), BSL (British Sign Language) and 13GS (Austrian Sign Language). So far, the first four lessons have been developed (the topics are: "formal and informal Letter", "CV and cover letter", "press articles" and "how to read a job advert"). DEAFLI includes videos with grammar explanations in the Sign Languages of each of thecountries taking part in the project in order to support the deaf students' comprehension of the contents, as well as interactive exercises (www.deafli.com). Currently, 80% of deaf people are fimctional illiterate, in other words, they complete a basic education, but do not reach suitable language proficiency, neither in its oral form nor in its written one, leading to a handicap in social situations due to the fact that written language proficiency is considered an essential tool in advanced societies, since it guarantees fundamental access to information and knowledge and, therefore, helps to develop a better identity and personal autonomy, while it affects social and work integration. Nowadays, accessibility to information and communication in the Deaf community is still far from being a fact, but, from this new perspective, explaining in detail the new strategies that optimize the reading and writing skills of Deaf pupils, it is expected to bring their competences near the levels of their listening counterparts favoring their access to employment, equal opportunities and deterring exclusion. 展开更多

With the advent of cloud computing technology, the development of mobile applications for use in several facets of life has been on the increase. This has been supported by the proliferation of mobile devices in the society which is also being used in utilizing the prowess of the cloud technology. Building a mobile education system that is platform independent is a major challenge since most of the popularly used ones are either software dependent or hardware dependent. In this work, a framework for mobile education system that is cross platform in nature with regard to operating system, hardware and web browsers using the 3-tier Client/Server mobile application architecture built on web standard was developed and fully tested. A first year computer science course offered by more than 1000 students was used as input to validate the framework. An integration of Short Message Services (SMS), virtual classroom and e-assessment components enable students and lecturers to communicate, create discussion forum and carry out e-testing using their mobile devices. This work is strongly recommended for higher institutions in Nigeria that need to explore the use of mobile devices that are available with the majority of students. Only registered users can access the developed app via the use of handheld devices (smart-phones & tablets). This can actually improve learning, research and collaboration between students and lecturers thereby enhancing learning experience. 展开更多
