Methods: 160 cases of acute and severe Uighur patients with venous thrombo embolism (VTE) that were treated in our hospital from December 2017 to December 2018 were selected as the research group. 160 cases of acute and severe uygur patients without VTE admitted to our hospital in the same period were selected as the control group. Caprini thrombus risk assessment scale and Padua thrombus risk assessment scale were used to evaluate in both groups. The general data of the two groups were compared. The results of the two groups were consistent using Caprini and Padua blood clot risk assessment scales. Clinical efficacy of two different thrombosis risk assessment scales in risk assessment of VTE. Results: Group and control group in the gender distribution, backlog of red blood cells and platelet count have no significant difference (P > 0.05), the team average age, average hospitalization days were significantly less than control group (P P P 2 = 6.956, P P (P P > 0.05). Conclusion: The sensitivity, negative predictive value and positive predictive value of Caprini thrombosis risk assessment scale in VTE risk assessment of acute and severe uygur patients are very prominent, and the clinical efficacy is better, which is worthy of application.展开更多

Objective:This study aimed to report 9 venous thromboembolism(VTE)cases after extracranial otologic surgery and analyze the potential risk factors.Study design:Case series.Setting:Single tertiary-level academic center...Objective:This study aimed to report 9 venous thromboembolism(VTE)cases after extracranial otologic surgery and analyze the potential risk factors.Study design:Case series.Setting:Single tertiary-level academic center.Methods:Totally,9 cases of VTE were identified among adults who underwent extracranial otologic surgery at our hospital from January 2018 to December 2020.Caprini risk scores were calculated,and comprehensive preoperative,operative,and postoperative clinical data within 14 days were collected to assess the evidence of VTE.Results:The median age of 9 patients was 64 years old.Among them,7(77.8%)patients presented with intramuscular vein thrombosis,1(11.1%)patient had deep vein thrombosis,and 1(11.1%)patient experienced pulmonary embolism.Preoperatively,8(88.9%)patients had low or middle Caprini risk scores(≤4)with an average of 2.67±0.47 points.The average Caprini scores for all patients were 4.44±0.35 on postoperative day(POD)1 and 5.67±0.64 on POD14.D-dimer levels were collected,indicating an average of 0.55±0.17 mg/FEU preoperatively,8.53±3.94 mg/FEU at day 1,and 3.76±0.45 mg/FEU at POD14.In postoperative period,7(77.8%)patients experienced vertigo/dizziness and/or head immobility/bed rest.Conclusion:The present study highlighted that patients with low-and middle-risk of VTE undergoing otologic surgery should be also vigilant about postoperative VTE.Vertigo/dizziness and/or head immobility/bed rest in postoperative period should be considered as minor risk factors for developing VTE in patients undergoing extracranial otologic surgery.Conducting perioperative assessments,including Caprini risk score evaluation,Ddimer testing,and venous ultrasound of lower extremities,is recommended to ensure patients’safety.展开更多

PE is considered the commonest prev...Background: Venous thromboembolism (VTE) is a common complication seen during or after hospitalization that manifests as deep venous thrombosis (DVT) and/or pulmonary embolism (PE). PE is considered the commonest preventable cause of death during and/or after hospitalization. Thus, pharmacological and mechanical methods are used to prevent VTE in hospitalized patients. Despite the availability of guidelines for VTE prophylaxis, it is crucial to assess the adherence and adaptation of the institution to these guidelines. Purpose: This study aimed to investigate adherence to the American College of Chest Physicians (ACCP) 2012 VTE prophylaxis guidelines in hospitalized medical patients in a tertiary care hospital in the United Arab Emirates. Methods: An observational prospective design was utilized in this study. To achieve the purpose, primary and secondary end points were identified to be the core of the investigation. The primary end points were: the incidence of bleeding, VTE, and cardiovascular events. While the secondary end points were: dose and indication validity for prophylaxis, VTE and bleeding risk assessments, adverse drug events (ADE) other than bleeding, appropriate monitoring when on low molecular weight heparin (LMWH) and the presence of contraindication at the time of prescribing LMWH. Results: 16 patients (20%) out of the total 80 met one or more of the primary end points. The vast majority of patients (81.25%) developed bleeding, while VTE was seen in one case only during hospitalization. 11 patients (13.75%) received LMWH while a contraindication was present. 15 patients (18.75%) who were prescribed LMWH had an International Medical Prevention Registry on Venous Thromboembolism (IMPROVE) bleeding risk score of ≥7. However, 5 out of 13 patients (38.46%) who developed bleeding had a bleeding score of ≥7, and the relationship between bleeding score of ≥7 and the development of bleeding was statistically significant (p = 0.047). When investigating the doses that were utilized, 40% were prescribed an inappropriate dose. Conclusion: Various factors played a role in the inappropriateness of VTE prophylaxis such as;poor adherence to VTE guidelines, inappropriate dosing and monitoring, and not evaluating the bleeding risk. Hence, to be able to achieve effective VTE prophylaxis, these factors need to be addressed through adherence to and adaptation of the ACCP 2012 VTE prophylaxis guidelines.展开更多
