A study has been made on vit...This paper gives an overview of studies on parameters displayed on the Automotive Head Up Display (A-HUD) including calculation and construction of symbology page based on study results. A study has been made on vital parameters required for car drivers and design calculations have been made based on design parameters like field of view, distance from the design eye position, minimum character size viewable from a distance of 1.5m between driver and the projected image, and optical magnification factor. lhe display format suitable for A-HUD applications depends upon the parameters required to be displayed. The aspect ratio chosen is 4:3. This paper also provides method to design the symbology page embedding six vital parameters with their relative positioning and size considering relative position between display device and optical elements which has been considered with a magnification factor of 2.5. The field of view obtained is 6.7° × 4.8°.展开更多
A method-mix for intercultural user interface design (IUID) is explained and exemplified by application examples based on a hybrid approach covering cultural contexts in human-computer interaction (HCI) design using a...A method-mix for intercultural user interface design (IUID) is explained and exemplified by application examples based on a hybrid approach covering cultural contexts in human-computer interaction (HCI) design using a model of culturally influenced HCI. Cultural influence on HCI is described using cultural variables for user interface design. Assumptions and empirical results regarding the influence of culture on HCI, considering the path of the information processing and the interaction style between Chinese and German users are explained based on cultural models. Subsequent indicators represent the relationship between culture and HCI (culturally imprinted by the user). Correlations adopted theoretically between cultural dimensions and variables for HCI design were investigated. These correlations represent relevant constituents of a model for culturally influenced HCI. Considerations applying this model and evidence for the proper application of the IUID method-mix are presented elucidating why and how cultural aspects play a role in HCI design and usability/UX engineering. The IUID method-mix serves to inspire HCI engineers in the requirement analysis phase as well as HCI designers in the design phase. The readers are thereby sensitized to the challenges of intercultural usability/UX engineering and intercultural HCI design and will be equipped with methodological knowledge relevant to the derivation of design recommendations for user interface design for and in their desired cultural contexts. Finally, implications for practitioners are shown, including HCI style scores and practical design recommendations, to prognosticate the effort and the expenditures for considering the cultural context in IUID.展开更多

Cognitive studies are also significant in the research about design studio. The aim of this study is to examine the effect of designers intelligence quotient (lOJ on their designs. The statistical population in this study consisted of all Deylaman Institute of Higher Education architecture graduate students enrolled in 2011. Sixty of these students were selected via simple random sampling based on the finite population sample size calculation formula. The students' IQ was measured using Raven's Progressive Matrices. The students' scores in Architecture Design Studio (ADS) courses from first grade (ADS-l) to fifth grade (ADS-5) and the mean scores of the design courses were used in determining the students' design ability. Inferential statistics, as well as correlation analysis and mean comparison test for independent samples with SPSS, were also employed to analyze the research data. Results indicated that the students' IQ ADS-1 to ADS-4 scores, and the mean scores of the students' design courses were not significantly correlated. By contrast, the students' IQ and ADS-5 scores were significantly correlated. As the complexity of the design problem and designers' experience increased, the effect of IQ on design seemingly intensified.展开更多
