Biomass-derived platform molecules, such as furfural, are abundant and renewable feedstock for valuable chemical production. It is critical to synthesize highly efficient photocatalysts for selective oxidation under visible light. The Er@K-C_(3)N_(4)/UiO-66-NH_(2) catalyst was synthesized using a straight-forward hydrothermal technique, and exhibited exceptional efficiency in the photocatalytic oxidation of furfural to furoic acid. The catalyst was thoroughly characterized, confirming the effective adjustment of the band gap energy of Er@K-C_(3)N_(4)/UiO-66-NH_(2).Upon the optimized reaction conditions, the conversion rate of furfural reached 89.3%,with a corresponding yield of furoic acid at 79.8%.The primary reactive oxygen species was identified as·O_(2)^(-) from ESR spectra and scavenger tests. The incorporation of Er and K into the catalyst enhanced the photogenerated carriers transfer rate, hence increasing the separating efficiency of photogenerated electron-hole pairs. This study expands the potential applications of rare earth element doped g-C_(3)N_(4) in the photocatalytic selective oxidation of furfurans. 展开更多

The trade-off between efficiency and stability has limited the application of TiO_(2)as a catalyst due to its poor surface reactivity. Here,we present a modification of a TiO_(2)layer with highly stable Sub-5 nm Fe_(2)O_(3)nanoparticles(NP)by modulating its structure-surface reactivity relationship to attain efficiency-stability balance via a voltage-assisted oxidation approach. In situ simultaneous oxidation of the Ti substrate and Fe precursor using high-energy plasma driven by high voltage resulted in uniform distribution of Fe_(2)O_(3)NP embedded within porous TiO_(2)layer.Comprehensive surface characterizations with density functional theory demonstrated an improved electronic transition in TiO_(2)due to the presence of surface defects from reactive oxygen species and possible charge transfer from Ti to Fe;it also unexpectedly increased the active site in the TiO_(2)layer due to uncoordinated electrons in Sub-5 nm Fe_(2)O_(3)NP/TiO_(2)catalyst,thereby enhancing the adsorption of chemical functional groups on the catalyst. This unique embedded structure exhibited remarkable improvement in reducing 4-nitrophenol to 4-aminophenol,achieving approximately 99%efficiency in 20 min without stability decay after 20 consecutive cycles, outperforming previously reported TiO_(2)-based catalysts. This finding proposes a modified-electrochemical strategy enabling facile construction of TiO_(2)with nanoscale oxides extandable to other metal oxide systems. 展开更多

In this study, the perovskite nanocomposite PrFe_(x)Co_(1-x)O_(3)(Pr(S))was successfully synthesized by the sol-gel method;PrFe_(x)Co_(1-x)O_(3)/Al-pillared montmorillonite(Pr(S)/Mt)catalysts were prepared by impregnation(D)method and solid-melting(G)method,respectively,with Pr(S)as the active component and Al-pillared montmorillonite as the carrier. The catalysts were applied to treat the 2-hydroxybenzoic acid(2-HA)-simulated wastewater by catalytic wet peroxide oxidation(CWPO)technique, and the chemical oxygen demand(COD)removal rate and the 2-HA degradation rate were used as indicators to evaluate the catalytic performance. The results of the experiment indicated that the solid-melting method was more conducive to preparing the catalyst when the Co/Fe molar ratio of 7:3 and the optimal structural properties of the catalysts were achieved. The influence of operating parameters, including reaction temperature, catalyst dosage,H_(2)O_(2)dosage,pH,and initial 2-HA concentration, were optimized for the degradation of 2-HA by CWPO.The results showed that 97.64%of 2-HA degradation and 75.23%of COD removal rate were achieved under more suitable experimental conditions. In addition, after the catalyst was used five times, the degradation rate of 2-HA could still reach 76.93%,which implied the high stability and reusability of the catalyst. The high catalytic activity of the catalyst was due to the doping of Co into PrFeO_(3),which could promote the generation of HO·,and the high stability could be attributed to the loading of Pr(S)onto Al-Mt,which reduced the leaching of reactive metals. The study of reaction mechanism and kinetics showed that the whole degradation process conformed to the pseudo-firstorder kinetic equation, and the Langmuir-Hinshelwood method was applied to demonstrate that catalysis was dominant in the degradation process. 展开更多

Owing to the intrinsically sluggish kinetics of urea oxidation reaction(UOR)involving a six-electron transfer process, developing efficient UOR electrocatalyst is a great challenge remained to be overwhelmed.Herein,by taking advantage of 2-Methylimidazole,of which is a kind of alkali in water and owns strong coordination ability to Co^(2+)in methanol, trace Co(1.0 mol%)addition was found to induce defect engineering onα-Ni(OH)_(2)in a dual-solvent system of water and methanol.Physical characterization results revealed that the synthesized electrocatalyst(WM-Ni_(0.99)Co_(0.01)(OH)_(2))was a kind of defective nanosheet with thickness around 5-6 nm,attributing to the synergistic effect of Co doping and defect engineering, its electron structure was finely altered, and its specific surface a rea was tremendously enlarged from 68 to 172.3 m^(2)g^(-1).With all these merits, its overpotential to drive 10 mA cm^(-2)was reduced by 110 mV.Besides, the interfacial behavior of UOR was also well deciphered by operando electrochemical impedance spectroscopy. 展开更多

Urea holds promise as an alternative water-oxidation substrate in electrolytic cells.High-valence nickelbased spinel, especially after heteroatom doping, excels in urea oxidation reactions(UOR).However, traditional spinel synthesis methods with prolonged high-temperature reactions lack kinetic precision, hindering the balance between controlled doping and highly active two-dimensional(2D)porous structures design. This significantly impedes the identification of electron configuration-dependent active sites in doped 2D nickel-based spinels.Herein,we present a microwave shock method for the preparation of 2D porous NiCo_(2)O_(4)spinel.Utilizing the transient on-off property of microwave pulses for precise heteroatom doping and 2D porous structural design,non-metal doping(boron, phosphorus, and sulfur)with distinct extranuclear electron disparities serves as straightforward examples for investigation.Precise tuning of lattice parameter reveals the impact of covalent bond strength on NiCo_(2)O_(4)structural stability. The introduced defect levels induce unpaired d-electrons in transition metals, enhancing the adsorption of electron-donating amino groups in urea molecules.Simultaneously,Bode plots confirm the impact mechanism of rapid electron migration caused by reduced band gaps on UOR activity. The prepared phosphorus-doped 2D porous NiCo_(2)O_(4),with optimal electron configuration control, outperforms most reported spinels. This controlled modification strategy advances understanding theoretical structure-activity mechanisms of high-performance 2D spinels in UOR. 展开更多

The traditional automotive catalytic converter using commercial ceramic honeycomb carriers has many problems such as high back pressure, low engine efficiency, and high usage of precious metals. This study proposes a four-channel catalytic micro-reactor based on alumina hollow fiber membrane, which uses phase inversion method for structural molding and regulation.Due to the advantages of its carrier,it can achieve lower ignition temperature under low noble metal loading. With Pd/CeO_(2) at a loading rate of 2.3%(mass),the result showed that the reaction ignition temperature is even less than 160℃,which is more than 90℃ lower than the data of commercial ceramic substrates under similar catalyst loading and airspeed conditions. The technology in turn significantly reduces the energy consumption of the reaction. And stability tests were conducted under constant conditions for 1000 h,which proved that this catalytic converter has high catalytic efficiency and stability, providing prospects for the design of innovative catalytic converters in the future. 展开更多

The surface properties of oxidic supports and their interaction with the supported metals play critical roles in governing the catalytic activities of oxide‐supported metal catalysts. When metals are supported on reducible oxides, dynamic surface reconstruction phenomena, including strong metal–support interaction(SMSI)and oxygen vacancy formation, complicate the determination of the structural–functional relationship at the active sites. Here,we performed a systematic investigation of the dynamic behavior of Au nanocatalysts supported on flame‐synthesized TiO_(2),which takes predominantly a rutile phase, using CO oxidation above room temperature as a probe reaction. Our analysis conclusively elucidated a negative correlation between the catalytic activity of Au/TiO_(2) and the oxygen vacancy at the Au/TiO_(2) interface.Although the reversible formation and retracting of SMSI overlayers have been ubiquitously observed on Au/TiO_(2) samples, the catalytic consequence of SMSI remains inconclusive.Density functional theory suggests that the electron transfer from TiO_(2) to Au is correlated to the presence of the interfacial oxygen vacancies, retarding the catalytic activation of CO oxidation. 展开更多

A two-stage catalytic membrane reactor(CMR)that couples CO_(2) splitting with methane oxidation reactions was constructed based on an oxygen-permeable perovskite asymmetric membrane. The asymmetric membrane comprises a dense SrFe_(0.9)Ta_(0.1)O_(3-σ)(SFT)separation layer and a porous Sr_(0.9)(Fe_(0.9)Ta_(0.1))_(0.9)Cu_(0.1)O_(3-σ)(SFTC)catalytic layer. In thefirst stage reactor,a CO_(2) splitting reaction(CDS:2CO_(2)→2CO+O_(2))occurs at the SFTC catalytic layer.Subsequently, the O_(2) product is selectively extracted through the SFT separation layer to the permeated side for the methane combustion reaction(MCR),which provides an extremely low oxygen partial pressure to enhance the oxygen extraction. In the second stage,a Sr_(0.9)(Fe_(0.9)Ta_(0.1))_(0.9)Ni_(0.1)O_(3-σ)(SFTN)catalyst is employed to reform the products derived from MCR.The two-stage CMR design results in a remarkable 35.4%CO_(2) conversion for CDS at 900℃.The two-stage CMR was extended to a hollowfiber configuration combining with solar irradiation. The solar-assisted two-stage CMR can operate stably for over 50 h with a high hydrogen yield of 18.1 mL min^(-1) cm^(-2).These results provide a novel strategy for reducing CO_(2) emissions, suggesting potential avenues for the design of the high-performance CMRs and catalysts based on perovskite oxides in the future. 展开更多

Electrocatalytic glucose oxidation reaction(GOR)has attracted much attention owing to its crucial role in biofuel cell fabrication.Herein,we load MoO_(3)nanoparticles on carbon nanotubes(CNTs)and use a discharge process to prepare a noblemetal-free MC-60 catalyst containing MoO_(3),Mo_(2)C,and a Mo_(2)C–MoO_(3)interface.In the GOR,MC-60 shows activity as high as 745μA/(mmol/L cm^(2)),considerably higher than those of the Pt/CNT(270μA/(mmol/L cm^(2)))and Au/CNT catalysts(110μA/(mmol/L cm^(2))).In the GOR,the response minimum on MC-60 is as low as 8μmol/L,with a steady-state response time of only 3 s.Moreover,MC-60 has superior stability and anti-interference ability to impurities in the GOR.The better performance of MC-60 in the GOR is attributed to the abundant Mo sites bonding to C and O atoms at the MoO_(3)–Mo_(2)C interface. These Mo sites create active sites for promoting glucose adsorption and oxidation, enhancing MC-60 performance in the GOR.Thus, these results help to fabricate more effi cient noble-metal-free catalysts for the fabrication of glucose-based biofuel cells. 展开更多

Direct methanol fuel cells(DMFC) are widely considered to be an ideal green energy conversion device but their widespread applications are limited by the high price of the Pt-based catalysts and the instability in terms of surface CO toxicity in long-term operation.Herein, the PtFe alloy nanoparticles(NPs) with small particle size(~4.12 nm) supported on carbon black catalysts with different Pt/Fe atomic ratios(Pt_(1)Fe_(2)/C,Pt_(3)Fe_(4)/C,Pt_(1)Fe_(1)/C,and Pt_(2)Fe_(1)/C) are successfully prepared for enhanced anti-CO poisoning during methanol oxidation reaction(MOR).The optimal atomic ratio of Pt/Fe for the MOR is 1:2,and the mass activity of Pt_(1)Fe_(2)/C(5.40 A mg_(Pt)^(-1)) is 13.5 times higher than that of conventional commercial Pt/C(Pt/C-JM)(0.40 A mg_(Pt)^(-1)).The introduction of Fe into the Pt lattice forms the PtFe alloy phase, and the electron density of Pt is reduced after forming the PtFe alloy.In-situ Fourier transform infrared results indicate that the addition of oxyphilic metal Fe has reduced the adsorption of reactant molecules on Pt during the MOR.The doping of Fe atoms helps to desorb toxic intermediates and regenerate Pt active sites, promoting the cleavage of C-O bonds with good selectivity of CO_(2)(58.1%).Moreover,the Pt_(1)Fe_(2)/C catalyst exhibits higher CO tolerance, methanol electrooxidation activity, and long-term stability than other Pt_(x)Fe_(y)/C catalysts. 展开更多

Catalyst design relies heavily on electronic metal‐support interactions, but the metal‐support interface with an uncontrollable electronic or coordination environment makes it challenging.Herein,we outline a promising approach for the rational design of catalysts involving heteroatoms as anchors for Pd nanoparticles for ethanol oxidation reaction(EOR)catalysis. The doped B and N atoms from dimethylamine borane(DB)occupy the position of the Ti_(3)C_(2) lattice to anchor the supported Pd nanoparticles. The electrons transfer from the support to B atoms, and then to the metal Pd to form a stable electronic center.A strong electronic interaction can be produced and the d‐band center can be shifted down, driving Pd into the dominant metallic state and making Pd nanoparticles deposit uniformly on the support. As‐obtained Pd/DB–Ti_(3)C_(2) exhibits superior durability to its counterpart(∼14.6% retention)with 91.1% retention after 2000 cycles, placing it among the top single metal anodic catalysts.Further,in situ Raman and density functional theory computations confirm that Pd/DB–Ti_(3)C_(2) is capable of dehydrogenating ethanol at low reaction energies. 展开更多

In this work, nickel foam supported CeO_(2)-modified CoBDC(BDC stands for terephthalic acid linker)metal-organic frameworks(NF/CoBDC@CeO_(2)) are prepared by hydrothermal and subsequent impregnation methods, which can be further transformed to NF/CoOOH@CeO_(2) by reconstruction during the electrocatalytic test. The obtained NF/CoOOH@CeO_(2) exhibits excellent performance in electrocatalytic oxidation of 5-hydroxymethylfurfural(HMF) because the introduction of CeO_(2) can optimize the electronic structure of the heterointerface and accelerate the accumulation of ^(*)OH.It requires only a potential of 1.290 V_(RHE) to provide a current density of 50 mA cm^(-2) in 1.0 M KOH+50 mM HMF,which is 222 mV lower than that required in 1,0 M KOH(1.512 V_(RHE)).In addition,density-functional theory calculation results demonstrate that CeO_(2) biases the electrons to the CoOOH side at the heterointerface and promotes the adsorption of ^(*)OH and ^(*)HMF on the catalyst surface, which lower the reaction energy barrier and facilitate the electrocata lytic oxidation process. 展开更多

Electrocatalytic 5-hydroxymethylfurfural oxidation reaction(HMFOR)provides a promising strategy to convert biomass derivative to highvalue-added chemicals.Herein,a cascade strategy is proposed to construct Pd-NiCo_(2)O_(4)electrocatalyst by Pd loading on Ni-doped Co3O4 and for highly active and stable synergistic HMF oxidation. An elevated current density of 800 mA cm^(-2)can be achieved at 1.5 V,and both Faradaic efficiency and yield of 2,5-furandicarboxylic acid remained close to 100%over 10 consecutive electrolysis.Experimental and theoretical results unveil that the introduction of Pd atoms can modulate the local electronic structure of Ni/Co,which not only balances the competitive adsorption of HMF and OH-species,but also promote the active Ni^(3+)species formation, inducing high indirect oxidation activity. We have also discovered that Ni incorporation facilitates the Co2+pre-oxidation and electrophilic OH*generation to contribute direct oxidation process. This work provides a new approach to design advanced electrocatalyst for biomass upgrading. 展开更多

Atomically-dispersed metal-based materials represent an emerging class of photocatalysts attributed to their high catalytic activity, abundant surface active sites, and efficient charge separation.Nevertheless, the roles of different forms of atomically-dispersed metals(i.e.,single-atoms and atomic clusters)in photocatalytic reactions remain ambiguous.Herein,we developed an ethylenediamine(EDA)-assisted reduction method to controllably synthesize atomically dispersed Au in the forms of Au single atoms(Au_(SA)),Au clusters(Au_(C)),and a mixed-phase of Au_(SA)and Au_(C)(Au_(SA+C))on CdS.In addition,we elucidate the synergistic effect of Au_(SA)and Au_(C)in enhancing the photocatalytic performance of CdS substrates for simultaneous CO_(2)reduction and aryl alcohol oxidation.Specifically,Au_(SA)can effectively lower the energy barrier for the CO_(2)→*COOH conversion, while Au_(C)can enhance the adsorption of alcohols and reduce the energy barrier for dehydrogenation. As a result, the Au_(SA)and Au_(C)co-loaded CdS show impressive overall photocatalytic CO_(2)conversion performance, achieving remarkable CO and BAD production rates of 4.43 and 4.71 mmol g^(−1)h^(−1),with the selectivities of 93%and 99%,respectively.More importantly, the solar-to-chemical conversion efficiency of Au_(SA+C)/CdS reaches 0.57%,which is over fivefold higher than the typical solar-to-biomass conversion efficiency found in nature(ca.0.1%).This study comprehensively describes the roles of different forms of atomically-dispersed metals and their synergistic effects in photocatalytic reactions, which is anticipated to pave a new avenue in energy and environmental applications. 展开更多

The electrochemical coupling of biomass oxidation and nitrogen conversion presents a potential strategy for high value-added chemicals and nitrogen cycling.Herein,in this work,CuO/Co_(3)O_(4)with heterogeneous interface is successfully constructed as a bifunctional catalyst for the electrooxidation of 5-hydroxymethylfurfural to 2,5-furandicarboxylic acid and the electroreduction of nitrate to ammonia(NH_(3)).The open-circuit potential spontaneous experiment shows that more 5-hydroxymethylfurfural molecules are adsorbed in the Helmholtz layer of the CuO/Co_(3)O_(4)composite,which certifies that the CuO/Co_(3)O_(4)heterostructure is conducive to the kinetic adsorption of 5-hydroxymethylfurfural.In situ electrochemical impedance spectroscopy further shows that CuO/Co_(3)O_(4)has faster reaction kinetics and lower reaction potential in oxygen evolution reaction and 5-hydroxymethylfurfural electrocatalytic oxidation.Moreover,CuO/Co_(3)O_(4)also has a good reduction effect on NO_(3)^(-).The ex-situ Raman spectroscopy shows that under the reduction potential, the metal oxide is reduced, and the generated Cu_(2)O can be used as a new active site for the reaction to promote the electrocatalytic conversion of NO_(3)^(-)to NH_(3) synthesis. This work provides valuable guidance for the synthesis of value-added chemicals by 5-hydroxymethylfurfural electrocatalytic oxidation coupled with NO_(3)^(-)while efficiently producing NH_(3). 展开更多

The development of efficient systems for the catalytic oxidation of 2-nitro-4-methylsulfonyltoluene(NMST)to 2-nitro-4-methylsulfonyl benzoic acid(NMSBA)with atmospheric air or molecular oxygen in alkaline medium presents a significant challenge for the chemical industry. Here,we report the synthesis of FeOOH/Fe_(3)O_(4)/metal-organic framework(MOF)polygonal mesopores microflower templated from a MIL-88B(Fe)at room temperature, which exposes polygonal mesopores with atomistic edge steps and lattice defects. The obtained FeOOH/Fe_(3)O_(4)/MOF catalyst was adsorbed onto glass beads and then introduced into the microchannel reactor. In the alkaline environment, oxygen was used as oxidant to catalyze the oxidation of NMST to NMSBA,showing impressive performance. This sustainable system utilizes oxygen as a clean oxidant in an inexpensive and environmentally friendly NaOH/methanol mixture. The position and type of substituent critically affect the products.Additionally, this sustainable protocol enabled gram-scale preparation of carboxylic acid and benzyl alcohol derivatives with high chemoselectivities. Finally, the reactions can be conducted in a pressure reactor, which can conserve oxygen and prevent solvent loss. Moreover, compared with the traditional batch reactor, the self-built microchannel reactor can accelerate the reaction rate, shorten the reaction time, and enhance the selectivity of catalytic oxidation reactions. This approach contributes to environmental protection and holds potential for industrial applications. 展开更多

Catalytic wet air oxidation(CWAO) can degrade some refractory pollutants at a low cost to improve the biodegradability of wastewater. However, in the presence of high temperature and high pressure and strong oxidizing free radicals, the stability of catalysts is often insufficient, which has become a bottleneck in the application of CWAO. In this paper, a copper-based catalyst with excellent hydrothermal stability was designed and prepared. TiO_(2) with excellent stability was used as the carrier to ensure the longterm anchoring of copper and reduce the leaching of the catalyst. The one pot sol–gel method was used to ensure the super dispersion and uniform distribution of copper nanoparticles on the carrier, so as to ensure that more active centers could be retained in a longer period. Experiments show that the catalyst prepared by this method has good stability and catalytic activity, and the catalytic effect is not significantly reduced after 10 cycles of use. The oxidation degradation experiment of m-cresol with the strongest biological toxicity and the most difficult to degrade in coal chemical wastewater was carried out with this catalyst. The results showed that under the conditions of 140℃, 2 MPa and 2 h, m-cresol with a concentration of up to 1000 mg·L^(-1) could be completely degraded, and the COD removal rate could reach 79.15%. The biological toxicity of wastewater was significantly reduced. The development of the catalyst system has greatly improved the feasibility of CWAO in the treatment of refractory wastewater such as coal chemical wastewater. 展开更多
