AIM:To compare the difference of capsulotomy produced by precision pulse capsulotomy(PPC),manual(M-CCC),and femtosecond laser assisted capsulotomy(FLAC)in relation to intraocular lens(IOL)centration,circularity and it...AIM:To compare the difference of capsulotomy produced by precision pulse capsulotomy(PPC),manual(M-CCC),and femtosecond laser assisted capsulotomy(FLAC)in relation to intraocular lens(IOL)centration,circularity and its effect on visual outcomes.METHODS:Prospective,non-randomized comparative study conducted at LV Prasad Eye Institute,Hyderabad,India.Sixty eyes of 52 patients were grouped into 3(FLAC,PPC and M-CCC)based on capsulotomy techniques used.Twenty consecutive eyes with uneventful phacoemulsification and with no comorbidities affecting the capsulotomy or visual outcome were included in each group.The main outcome measure was IOL centration in relation to capsulotomy and pupil.Secondary outcome measures were post-operative visual acuity,manifest refraction and aberration profile between groups.RESULTS:At 5 wk the visual,refractive outcomes and endothelial cell density were comparable between the 3 groups.The median circularity index of FLAC was statistically significantly different to M-CCC or PPC(1-10)groups(P<0.01)but PPC(11-20)was comparable to FLAC.Decentration of IOL center in relation to capsulotomy was seen only between the PPC(1-10)group and FLAC group(P=0.02).The IOL was well centered in relation to the pupil in all the groups(P=0.46).The quality of vision parameters like the higher order aberrations,spherical aberration,coma,trefoil,modular transfer function,and Strehl ratio were comparable between the groups.CONCLUSION:Our study shows that despite differences in the morphology of capsulotomy produced by PPC,M-CCC,FLAC a well-centered IOL can be achieved.The measured capsular morphology parameters do not affect visual outcomes.展开更多

The human eye is an asymmetric optical system and the real cornea is not a rotationally symmetrical volume.Each optical element in the eye has its own optical and neural axes.Defining the optimum center for laser abla...The human eye is an asymmetric optical system and the real cornea is not a rotationally symmetrical volume.Each optical element in the eye has its own optical and neural axes.Defining the optimum center for laser ablation is difficult with many available approaches.We explain the various centration approaches(based on these reference axes)in refractive surgery and review their clinical outcomes.The line-of-sight(LOS)(the line joining the entrance pupil center with the fixation point)is often the recommended reference axis for representing wavefront aberrations of the whole eye(derived from the definition of chief ray in geometrical optics);however pupil centration can be unstable and change with the pupil size.The corneal vertex(CV)represents a stable preferable morphologic reference which is the best approximate for alignment to the visual axis.However,the corneal light reflex can be considered as non-constant,but dependent on the direction of gaze of the eye with respect to the light source.A compromise between the pupil and CV centered ablations is seen in the form of an asymmetric offset where the manifest refraction is referenced to the CV while the higher order aberrations are referenced to the pupil center.There is a need for a flexible choice of centration in excimer laser systems to design customized and non-customized treatments optimally.展开更多
Radial profiles of solid concentration and velocity for concurrent downward gas-solid suspension in a140mm inside diameter fast fluidized bed were investigated.The influence of gas velocity,solid circulating rateand a...Radial profiles of solid concentration and velocity for concurrent downward gas-solid suspension in a140mm inside diameter fast fluidized bed were investigated.The influence of gas velocity,solid circulating rateand axial position on radial profiles of solid concentration and particle velocity has been examined.It hasbeen found that an annular region of high solid concentration exists at r/R=0.94.At both the center and wallregion,the solid concentration and the particle velocities are relatively low.The shape of radial solid con-centration profile curves is mainly dependent on the cross-section averaged voidage,and the shape of radialparticle velocity profile is mainly affected by the gas velocity and cross-section averaged voidage.Based on the radial profiles of solid concentration and particle velocity,the solid mass flux profile and thenonuniformity of solids flow are discussed in this paper.It is shown that solids flow in CDFFB is much moreuniform than that in UFFB.展开更多

Phosphorus and nutrient recovery from wastewater as mineral salts can support local replenishment of fertilisers and reduce mining,contributing to the circular economy.Wastewater and related streams are rich in nutrie...Phosphorus and nutrient recovery from wastewater as mineral salts can support local replenishment of fertilisers and reduce mining,contributing to the circular economy.Wastewater and related streams are rich in nutrients,however;there is need to develop bio-based processes to recover them.This study investigates the fractions of phosphorus(P)used by Brevibacterium antiquum to form struvite biominerals(bio-struvite)in wastewater sludge dewatering liquors.After 72h of incubation,25.6 mg P/L were recovered as bio-struvite from 12.4 mg P/L organic plus condensed P and 13.2 mg P/L of orthophosphate.The potential of sludge dewatering liquors to recover nutrients as struvite was investigated by characterising ten types of sludge liquors(originating from primary,secondary sludge,feed to anaerobic digester and digestate,from 3 types of wastewater treatment plants)for their P fractions together with other parameters relevant for B.antiquum growth.Results indicated that liquors obtained from primary sludge,feed to anaerobic digesters and digestate were the most suitable to produce biostruvite,as these were found to frequently have a high content of organic and condensed P,between to 276-732 mg P/L.Liquors,from all the investigated sites,presented a higher potential for bio-struvite production than with conventional struvite precipitation.This study demonstrated that B.antiquum could convert organic and condensed P into bio-struvite,and this opens up a completely new way to recover forms of phosphorus that are not typically available for nutrient recovery in a single process.展开更多
