The internal flow fields of the compressor are calculated by solving three-dimensional Navier-Stokes equation. Four aspects are investigated and calculation results show that the total efficiencies and total pressure ratios of the compressor with contracting wall vandess diffuser is higher than that of the compressor with parallel-wall. The jet and wake don't mix rapidly inside vandess diffuser. The outlet blade lean angle doesn't affect the compressor performance. The greater the mass flow rate through impeller, the more uneven the velocity distribution at impeller outlet is.展开更多
Centrifugal compressors for the fuel cell vehicles often operate near the surge line compared with the turbocharger compressors.Low solidity and half vaned diffusers are recognized as good ways to improve the stabilit...Centrifugal compressors for the fuel cell vehicles often operate near the surge line compared with the turbocharger compressors.Low solidity and half vaned diffusers are recognized as good ways to improve the stability of the centrifugal compressor.The presented work investigated four diffuser configurations (i.e.,the vaneless diffuser (VLD),full-height low solidity vaned diffuser (LSVD),hub-side half vaned diffuser (HVD) and shroud-side half vaned diffuser (SVD)) through steady-state and unsteady numerical simulations.The results show that the best performance is achieved by the LSVD,HVD and SVD at the design,surge and choke conditions.The flow rate at the surge operating point of the HVD has decreased by 15.53% compared with the LSVD,and 9.21% compared with the VLD.At near surge operating point,a longitudinal suction side passage vortex is formed on the hub of the LSVD and rotates as circumferential stall cells.A hairpin vortex is formed along the leading edge and is dragged by the main flow along the suction side as a local vortex shedding.The mechanism of the stability improvement by half vaned diffusers is that the tip leakage vortex migrates from the clearance side to the vane mounting side and replenishes the low-momentum zone on the mounting side.The best position where the half vaned diffuser should be mounted is based on the impeller outlet flow conditions,namely,the location of the wake region,where the meridional velocity and relative stagnation pressure is low.展开更多
This study numerically investigated a single stage centrifugal compressor "Radiver" with a wedge diffuser and several tandem-designed impellers to explore the flow phenomena within the tandem impeller and th...This study numerically investigated a single stage centrifugal compressor "Radiver" with a wedge diffuser and several tandem-designed impellers to explore the flow phenomena within the tandem impeller and the potential to enhance compressor performance.The results demonstrate that tandem design and clocking fraction(ks)significantly affects the compressor performance.The compressor stage with tandem impellers of Series A of boundary layer growth interruption alone are observed to have a widely operating range but efficiency and total pressure ratio penalty compared with that of conventional impeller.The tandem impeller with at least the same impeller efficiency as the conventional design is considered as a critical design criteria so that further modification process based on the flow characteristic of tandem impeller is necessary.In order to restrain the inducer wake and exducer shock losses,parameters modification of blade angle and thickness distributions are necessary and the modified tandem impeller of Series B is obtained.The modified tandem impeller with 25%clocking arrangement shows an 8.45%stall margin increase and maintains the total pressure ratio and efficiency as the conventional design,which proves the potential of tandem impeller to improve compressor stage performance.It is noteworthy that the tandem impellers of Radiver have not shown obviously balanced exit flow field and the fundamental mechanism of stall margin extending of tandem impeller lies on the improved impeller/diffuser matching performance resulting from the incidence angle variation at diffuser inlet.展开更多

The present paper addresses the elucidation of the generating mechanism and parameter dependency such as the kind and degree of mistuning. In order to analyze numerically the rotational frequency noise due to mistuning, the unsteady computational fluid dynamics(CFD) of the whole compressor including volute is executed, and the resultant time history of the pressure is fed into the spectral analysis.展开更多
