The theory of prediction was proposed by Huu S. TIEU on March 25, 2019, and he hypothesized that any malfunctioning cell in the body could have a damaging effect. This paper discusses the prediction that Localized Oxygen Deprivation could be a contributing factor for a future epidemic or other viral pandemics that could affect body function. This paper is based on opinion and does not have sufficient evidence to support the claims made. Therefore, further in-depth study is needed to prove the findings. The author cites Hypoxia to support his idea, but he is not claiming that Hypoxia-Inducible Factor (HIF) has worked on his predictions. The author also tested a theory using cow blood curd for body function, but this test was not a structured test and the findings were not supported by other evidence. To further prove the idea or theory, further study into the subject should be conducted.展开更多

To make a better China story about human rights and enhance China’s international discourse power in the field of human rights, we propose the text construction, translation and communication path of the construction of the human rights discourse system with Chinese characteristics from the cross-disciplinary perspective. Based on the examples of prevention and control of the CoVID-19 pandemic under the concept of putting people first, mainstream diplomatic linguistic data relevant to the fight against the novel coronavirus was collected through the internet. The human rights discourse with Chinese characteristics is constructed through a variety of texts focusing on putting the people first, the right to life, the right to health, the right to information, the right to privacy, the right to work and a sense of a community with a shared future for human beings. The core concepts of human rights have experienced the deepening process of decontextualization, abstraction and theorization to gradually conform to the expression habits of international audiences. The international communication effect is mainly positive in civil society. It shows that the construction of China’s human rights discourse system and the governance of international human rights discourse have achieved preliminary results. To enhance China’s discourse power on human rights, we need to add an interdisciplinary approach.展开更多

文摘Africa can be"left behind"after other advanced continents recover from the coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)pandemic as reflected by the global pandemic of HIV/MDS.In this paper,we summarize potentially adaptable, effective and innovative strategies from China,Italy, and the U.S.The purpose is to help African countries with weaker healthcare systems better respond to the COVID-19 pandemic.China, being the first to report COVID-19 infection swiftly swung into anti-epidemic actions by the use of innovative risk communication and epidemic containment strategies.Italy and U.S.,the next rapidly hit countries after China, however, experienced sustained infections and deaths due to delayed and ineffective response. Many African countries responded poorly to the COVID-19 pandemic as evidenced by the limited capacity for public health surveillance, poor leadership, low education and socioeconomic status, among others.Experience from China,Italy and U.S.suggests that a better response to the COVID-19 pandemic in Mrica needs a strong public health leadership, proactive strategies, innovative risk communication about the pandemic, massive tests and isolation, and scaling-up community engagement.Lastly,African countries must collaborate with other countries to facilitate real-time information and experience exchange with other countries to avoid being left behind.
文摘The protection of human rights through international cooperation has a long history.Core human rights conventions, regional human rights treaties and other human rights instruments have continuously developed the meaning and scope of international human rights cooperation. The modern risk-laden society with a high degree of complexity and uncertainty has changed the world pattern, which calls for the building of a community with a shared future for human beings with cooperation as the starting point.Under the constant threat of the novel coronavirus,we must continue to deepen the concept of a community with a shared future for human beings, adhere to a“human rights-oriented”approach,and pay particular attention to the current supply and distribution of the COVID-19 vaccine as an important global public good.Only through solidarity and cooperation can mankind finally win the battle against this pandemic and protect human rights.
文摘The COVID-19 pandemic is the largest ever infectious disease facing mankind. It challenges national governance capabilities and international patterns. On June 8,2021,the“2021 China-Europe Seminar on Human Rights”was held in Chongqing,China. Its theme was“COVID-19 Pandemic and the Protection of the Right to Life and Health,”which focused on five topics:the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the protection of the rights to life and health, the response of countries against the pandemic, the protection of the right to life and health of specific groups during the pandemic response, the national responsibility for the protection of the right to life and health in the public health crisis, and global cooperation in the prevention and control of the COVID-19 pandemic. The conference reached two consensuses:First,in the face of the pandemic, countries must take responsibility for the people and protect the people’s right to life and health;second,an effective international mechanism for fighting the COVID-19 pandemic must be established as soon as possible.
文摘Only on the premise of the safety of life and good health can human beings have the opportunity to fully enjoy and develop various rights, achieve a state of free and comprehensive development and pursue the highest value of human rights. In 2020,the COVID-19 pandemic spread globally.Under the guidance of the“people-centered”human rights concept,China has put people’s life and health in the first place, and safeguards the people’s right to life and health as its primary task and important mission.Facts have proven that under the strong leadership of the CPC Central Committee with General Secretary Xi Jinping at the core, the people’s right to life and health has been guaranteed, which fully demonstrates the value in the“people-centered”human rights concept that people’s interests are above all else.

文摘The COVID-19 outbreak has shocked the world’s economies in the year of 2020.As this pandemic spreads around the globe, many experts feared that the global food supplies might start running short, especially if supply chains were disrupted.COVID-19 also added to the uncertainty of the business operation. Therefore,it is critical to understand how COVID-19 pandemic affected global food supply and market. In this study,we investigate the impact of COVID-19 on agricultural export companies in China using a unique firm-level survey data.We found that although on average agricultural businesses experienced declines in the exports, exports of some agricultural products especially grain and oil held strong and even increased, implying the essential demand for staple food during the pandemic. Not surprisingly, exports of medicinal herb also increased significantly during the pandemic. However, exports of goods such as edible fungus and horticultural products sharply decreased. Our results also showed that in general, impact of COVID-19 on smaller firms was more severe than that on larger firms. The results of this study can provide useful guidance and implications for agricultural businesses and policy makers on their COVID-19 mitigation efforts to navigate this global pandemic.
文摘Since the beginning of the coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)pandemic various measures have been taken to mitigate the effects of the global health crisis in this unprecedented time.According to the World Health Organization, more than 5 million people have been infected with severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus-2(SARS-CoV-2)and with more than 300000 deaths attributed to COVID-19 worldwide. There is emerging evidence that SARS-CoV-2 utilizes angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 receptors to enter human cells which are found in abundance in the alveoli and intestines. In addition, the infection is noted to be more severe in patients with co-morbid conditions, those who are malnourished, immunosuppressed and immunocompromised.Inflammatory bowel disease(IBD)which includes ulcerative colitis and Crohn’s disease is chronic remitting and relapsing disorders with intestinal and extraintestinal manifestation.IBD patients are often malnourished and on immunosuppressive medications and there is a hypothetical concern that IBD patients are at substantial risk of COVID-19 infection. The management of IBD patients is often complex and poses unique challenges for gastroenterologists during the pandemic. The purpose of this review article is to summarize the growing level of evidence and understanding of the management of IBD during the COVID-19 pandemic,in the light of international and national gastroenterology society guidelines. We performed a thorough literature search on IBD,SARS-CoV-2 and COVID-19 on PubMed,EMBASE,OVID Medline and Google Scholar and pertaining literature was critically examined and summarized.Per national and international society guidelines and recommendations,IBD is not a risk factor for SARS-CoV-2 infection.IBD patients should continue with their medications and they should follow universal precautions i.e.masks,hand and respiratory hygiene and avoidance of health care facilities and public toilets as general population.Among IBD patients older age, having active disease, and co-morbid conditions are risk factors for a severe SARS-CoV-2 infection.Furthermore, elective endoscopic and surgical procedures can be delayed or deferred until discussing the risks and benefits with patients.
文摘The COVID-19 pandemic can be compared to a world war that makes the existing international order unsustainable. The pandemic is interacting with global changes unseen in a century and exerting major impacts on international politics, world economy,major-country relations, the geostrategic landscape, global governance, and development models. In the next three to five years, the international landscape will be a chaotic situation, highlighting not poles but competing states and transformation, thus making it more difficult for major countries to cooperate while medium-sized and small states have to huddle for warmth and seek a way out within their respective regions.Although further observation is required during the ongoing pandemic and worldwide economic recession, some major trends in the world have emerged.A restart to China's international relations is called for.
文摘BACKGROUND Measures for effective control of the coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)pandemic include identifying the causal organisms, applying appropriate therapies, and developing vaccines,as well as improving understanding among the general public.AIM To evaluate the knowledge, awareness, perception, and response of the general public to COVID-19 in China.METHODS A detailed questionnaire comprising 47 questions designed in both English and Chinese was developed. The survey was conducted via WeChat,a multipurpose messaging, social media, and mobile payment app that is widely used by the Chinese population. In total,1006 participants responded, and most of them were from different provinces of China's Mainland.RESULTS Overall, this comprehensive survey revealed that the general public in China is highly aware of the basic information concerning COVID-19 and its precautions.Interestingly, more respondents(99.3%)were aware of the term severe acute respiratory syndrome(SARS)than COVID-19(97.2%)and Middle East respiratory syndrome(MERS)(73.4%).Among them,2.4%,1.6%,and 0.9%said that they or their family members or friends were affected by COVID-19,SARS,and MERS,respectively. The majority of the respondents(91.2%)indicated that knowledge about COVID-19 was received mainly from WeChat, followed by TV(89%),friends(76.1%),and QQ(a Chinese instant messaging software service)(57.7%).CONCLUSION The general public in China is highly aware of COVID-19 and the necessary precautions.Unexpectedly,2.8%of the participants were unaware of the current epidemic. The remaining information gaps highlight the necessity of further enhancing awareness and preparedness.

文摘Human rights have always been the focus of disputes between China and the West. To enhance China’s discourse power on human rights, we need to add an interdisciplinary approach.

文摘In this paper,we study how China’s stock market reacts to the sudden outbreak of COVID-19 in 2020,particularly to the announcement of the pandemic lockdown. In general,we observe reversals both at the industry level and at the firm level due to investors’overreactions to the pandemic lockdown. For industryand firm-level stocks with positive cumulative abnormal returns(CARs)in the event window when Wuhan was locked down, the reversals are stronger. Thus, the reversal effects are mostly driven by industries and stocks that positively overreact to COVID-19 than do others.Further investigation shows that overreactions are stronger for stocks with lower institutional ownership, which means that retail investors react more strongly to COVID-19.Among stocks with positive CARs in the event window, those with higher idiosyncratic volatilities and lower book-to-market ratios tend to have worse performance after one month.
文摘The global COVID-19 pandemic caused various economic contraction in most countries, including all of China’s major trading partners.Using a difference-in-differences model, this study examines the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on China’s monthly exports from January 2019 to May 2020.We find strong and robust evidence that China’s exports to countries at high risk from the pandemic experienced a larger decline than exports to low-risk countries after the onset of the pandemic, with the prices of exports increasing significantly.Furthermore, the results of a triple differences model show heterogeneous effects across different industries and goods.Chinese industries located upstream in the global value chain are more vulnerable than those located downstream.Industries with high labor and contract intensity(proxies for processing trade)experienced greater declines than other industries.Exports of goods with high import elasticity of substitution experienced higher prices and moderate volume losses due to the pandemic.
文摘The outbreak of coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)has caused more than 80813 confirmed cases in all provinces of China, and 21110 cases reported in 93 countries of six continents as of 7 March 2020 since middle December 2019.Due to biological nature of the novel coronavirus, named severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2(SARS-CoV-2)with faster spreading and unknown transmission pattern,it makes us in a difficulty position to contain the disease transmission globally. To date,we have found it is one of the greatest challenges to human beings in fighting against COVID-19 in the history, because SARS-CoV-2 is different from SARS-CoV and MERS-CoV in terms of biological features and transmissibility, and also found the containment strategies including the non-pharmaceutical public health measures implemented in China are effective and successful. In order to prevent a potential pandemic-level outbreak of COVID-19,we,as a community of shared future for mankind, recommend for all international leaders to support preparedness in low and middle income countries especially, take strong global interventions by using old approaches or new tools, mobilize global resources to equip hospital facilities and supplies to protect noisome infections and to provide personal protective tools such as facemask to general population, and quickly initiate research projects on drug and vaccine development. We also recommend for the international community to develop better coordination, cooperation, and strong solidarity in the joint efforts of fighting against COVID-19 spreading recommended by the joint mission report of the WHO-China experts, against violating the International Health Regulation(WHO,2005),and against stigmatization,in order to eventually win the battle against our common enemy—COVID-19.
文摘Background:Cerebrovascular disease(CVD)ranks among the foremost factors responsible for mortality on a global scale. The mortality patterns of CVDs and temporal trends in China need to be well-illustrated and updated. Methods:We collected mortality data on patients with CVD from Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention’s Disease Surveillance Points(CDC-DSP)system.The mortality of CVD in 2020 was described by age, sex, residence, and region. The temporal trend from 2013 to 2019 was evaluated using joinpoint regression, and estimated rates of decline were extrapolated until 2030 using time series models. Results:In 2019,the age-standardized mortality in China(ASMRC)per 100,000 individuals was 113.2.The ASMRC for males(137.7/10^(5))and rural areas(123.0/10^(5))were both higher when stratified by gender and urban/rural residence. The central region had the highest mortality(126.5/10^(5)),the western region had a slightly lower mortality(123.5/10^(5)),and the eastern region had the lowest mortality(97.3/10^(5)).The age-specific mortality showed an accelerated upward trend from aged 55-59 years, with maximum mortality observed in individuals over 85 years of age.The age-standardized mortality of CVD decreased by 2.43%(95%confidence interval,1.02-3.81%)annually from 2013 to 2019.Notably,the age-specific mortality of CVD increased from 2013 to 2019 for the age group of over 85 years. In 2020,both the absolute number of CVD cases and the crude mortality of CVD have increased compared to their values in 2019.The estimated total deaths due to CVD were estimated to reach 2.3 million in 2025 and 2.4 million in 2030.Conclusion:The heightened focus on the burden of CVD among males, rural areas, the central and western of China, and individuals aged 75 years and above has emerged as a pivotal determinant in further decreasing mortalities, consequently presenting novel challenges to strategies for disease prevention and control.
