To explore cell-based biological markers for Blood-enriching Chinese herbs, we investigate the effect of 11 commonly used Blood-enriching herbs on erythropoietin (EPO) production in HepG2 cells. Herbs for nourishing Yin were tested for determining the specificity of Blood-enriching herbs in inducing EPO production. In addition, the effects of Blood-enriching herbs on nitric oxide (NO) production in both HepG2 cells and human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs) were also investigated. The results indicated that methanolic extracts of Blood-enriching herbs (but not Yin-nourishing herbs) showed characteristic pharmacological activity in inducing EPO production in HepG2 cells and NO release in HUVECs. The experimental findings, therefore, support the use of cell-based EPO production and NO release as biological markers for Blood-enriching Chinese tonifying herbs.展开更多

When nifedipine was used, Ppv, WHVP, MAP and HR were significantly decreased (P<0.05), and the MVPG unchanged (P>0.05). After administration of RSM, RSM+nifedipine and RSM+Hirudin+Nifedpin for 10-12 weeks, the diameter of portal vein (Dpv), spleen vein (Dsv), the portal venous flow (Qpv) and splenic venous flow (Qsv) in patients with hepatic cirrhosis were significantly lowered (P<0.05-0.01), and the effect of RAS was weaker.CONCLUSIONS The efficacy of decreasing Ppv by Chinese herbs-RSM, RAS, etc. as compared with nifedipine, demonstrated that the Chinese herbs were slower in action than that of nifedipine, but more long-lasting and without side effects. Hence, long-term administration of Chinese herbs, would be more beneficial.展开更多

An axisymmetrical nonlinear model and an arbitrary Lagrangian-Eulerian finite element method (ALE-FEM) with rezoning algorithm were introduced to study the viscous flow through an axisymmetrical rigid tube with axially moving stenosis to simulate the rolling manipulation. Flow rate and wall shear stress were obtained by solving complete Navier-Stokes equations numerically. The numerical results show that the stenosis moving frequency, namely the frequency of rolling manipulation, has great effect on the disturbance of flow and the wall shear stress. The stenosis coefficient, which characterizes the severity of the stenosis, another adjustable parameter in rolling manipulation, also shows the significant effect on flow rate and wall shear stress. These numerical results may provide some data that can be taken into consideration when massage is used in clinic.展开更多

Methods: The traditional Chinese constitution of 80 subjects with high-normal BP was judged by questionnaires and interviews. Measurements of cardiovascular and metabolic health in- cluded BP, body weight, body mass index (BMI), low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C), 2-hour oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT2h), and waist cir- cumference. Statistical relationships between cardiovascular disease risk factors and specific Chinese constitution were evaluated by univariate and multivariate analyses. Results: Ping He, Tan Shi, and Yin Xu were the dominant constitutions in subjects with high-normal blood pressure. There were significant differences in weight, LDL-C, BMI, OGTT2h, and waist circumference between Tan Shi and Ping He (P P < 0.05), and weight, BMI, waist circumference, SBP, and LDL-C between Tan Shi and Yin Xu constitutions (P < 0.01). Logistic regression found a strong association between the Tan Shi constitution and LDL-C in subjects with high-normal blood pressure. Conclusion: Ping He, Tan Shi, and Yin Xu are the principle traditional Chinese constitutions in subject with high-normal blood pressure. The Tan Shi constitution is associated with multiple risk factors for cardiovascular disease (LDL-C, BMI, body weight, and waist circumference), while OGTT2h is closely related to the Yin Xu constitution.展开更多

Both the blank control group and the model group were given 0.9% normal saline by gavage. The low, medium, and high-dose groups of Soufeng Qutangroup and the atorvastatin group were given different doses of Soufeng Qutan Chinese Medicine Decoction and atorvastatin. After 13 weeks, the mice were sacrificed, and the abdominal aortic blood vessels were observed by HE staining. Total cholesterol(TC),triglycerides(TG),low-density lipoprotein cholesterol(LDL-C). and high-density lipopro?tein cholesterol(HDL-C)content were detected by a biochemical automatic analyzer and IL-1β levels were detected by ELISA.Results:Compared with the blank control group,a large number of foam cells could be seen in the model group with obvious plaques;serum TC,TG,LDL-C,and IL-1β levels were significantly increased(P<0.05),and HDL-C level was markedly de?creased (P<0.05). Compared with the model group, the Soufeng Qutangroup at all doses and the atorvastatin group had a small amount of foam cells and reduced plaque area;serum TC,TG,LDL-C,and IL-1β levels were significantly decreased (P<0.05),and the level of HDL-C was significantly increased (P<0.05).Conclusion:Soufeng Qutan Chinesemedicine can inhibit the pro?gression of cellular inflammation, downregulate the expression of IL-1β,reduce plaques, and improve blood lipids. This may be one of the molecular mechanisms of Soufeng Qutan Chinese medicine in the early treatment of atherosclerosis.展开更多

文摘The effects of Chinese medicines on micro-circulation and blood flow velocity in arteries of the lower limbs were observed in 33 patients with arteriosclerotic obliteration(ASO).The results showed that the integral values of micro-circulation after treatment were obviously higher than those before treatment (P<0.05 or P<0.01).Blood flow velocity in arteries of the lower limbs determined with the color Doppler ultrasound detecting method after treatment were also obviously higher than those before treatment (P<0.05 or P<0.01).In tbis series of 33 ASO patients, the markedly effective rate was 36.36%,and the total effective rate was 63.64%.The observation indicates that the recipe prescribed according to the principle of supplementing qi and activating blood circulation can effectively improve micro-circulation in ASO patients, and accelerate blood flow in arteries of the lower limbs.

文摘Objective:The purpose of this review was to evaluate the effectiveness of traditional Chinese medicine for activating blood circulation and detoxifying(ABCD)in patients with unstable angina pectoris. Methods:We performed an electronic literature search of six medical databases for relevant articles published up to December 2014.Randomized controlled trials that compared ABCD Chinese medicine(alone or alongside conventional drugs)with conventional drugs or other Chinese medicines alone were included.A meta-analysis was performed for the following outcome measures:reduction of angina symptoms, electrocardiogram improvement, blood lipid levels, inflammatory factor levels, and plasma fibrinogen levels. Results:In total,11 moderate-to low-quality studies involving 686 patients were included. The evidence indicated that ABCD Chinese medicine exhibited superior effectiveness in relieving angina symptoms compared with conventional drugs[relative risk,1.23;95%confidence interval,1.05e1.44];however,electrocardiogram improvement was not very significant(relative risk,1.21;95%confidence interval,0.91e1.62).Moreover,ABCD Chinese medicine exhibited superior anti-inflammatory,anticoagulant,and lipid-lowering effects compared with other medicines. Conclusions:Within the methodological limitations of the included studies, our results suggest that ABCD Chinese medicine is beneficial for the treatment of unstable angina pectoris.

文摘Objective:To explore the possible mechanism of Soufeng Qutan traditional Chinese medicine in the treatment of atherosclerosis. Methods:Mice of six weeks old which were knocked out gene ApoE and fed with a high-fat diet for 13 weeks to establish a model of atherosclerotic unstable plaque, and they were randomly divided into the model group, the atorvastatin group and the low, medium, and high-dose Shoufeng Qutan groups. In addition, six weeks old C57BL/6J mice were set as the blank con?trol group. This may be one of the molecular mechanisms of Soufeng Qutan Chinese medicine in the early treatment of atherosclerosis.

文摘BACKGROUND The lymphocyte-to-white blood cell ratio(LWR)is a blood marker of the systemic inflammatory response. The prognostic value of LWR in patients with hepatitis B virus-associated acute-on-chronic liver failure(HBV-ACLF)remains unclear.AIM To explore whether LWR could stratify the risk of poor outcomes in HBV-ACLF patients.METHODS This study was conducted by recruiting 330 patients with HBV-ACLF at the Department of Gastroenterology in a large tertiary hospital.Patients were divided into survivor and non-survivor groups according to their 28-d prognosis. The independent risk factors for 28-d mortality were calculated by univariate and multivariate Cox regression analyses.Patients were divided into low-and high-LWR groups according to the cutoff values.Kaplan-Meier analysis was performed according to the level of LWR.RESULTS During the 28-d follow-up time,135 patients died, and the mortality rate was 40.90%.The LWR level in non-surviving patients was significantly decreased compared to that in surviving patients.A lower LWR level was an independent risk factor for poor 28-d outcomes(hazard ratio=0.052,95%confidence interval:0.005-0.535).The LWR level was significantly negatively correlated with the Child-Turcotte-Pugh,model for end-stage liver disease, and Chinese Group on the Study of Severe Hepatitis B-ACLF II scores. In addition, the 28-d mortality was higher for patients with LWR<0.11 than for those with LWR≥0.11.CONCLUSION LWR may serve as a simple and useful tool for stratifying the risk of poor 28-d outcomes in HBVACLF patients.
