To exhibit the major achievements in 2008 field archaeological excavations and studies of China and to advance academic exchange and the development of Chinese antiquarian and archaeological undertakings,"The Eig...To exhibit the major achievements in 2008 field archaeological excavations and studies of China and to advance academic exchange and the development of Chinese antiquarian and archaeological undertakings,"The Eighth Archaeological Forum of CASS: New Archaeological Discoveries in China during 2008" was held in Beijing on January 13 2009.At the meeting six scholars gave lectures on the Neolithic Yangguanzhai site in Gaoling County of Shaanxi,the Mogou cemetery of Qijia culture in Lintan County of Gansu,the Haimenkou site in Jianchuan County of Yunnan,the Liujiazhuang North Locus site within the Yin Ruins in Anyang City of Henan,Tomb Shuangdun-1 of the Spring-and-Autumn period in Bengbu City of Anhui and the tomb-garden site of the Liao Dynasty ancestral mausoleum in Barin Left Banner of Inner Mongolia.Six famous scholars were invited to give comments on the above new archaeological discoveries,and discussions were organized on those topics.展开更多

The lecturers reported and discussed the following six important archaeological discoveries: the Neolithic Luotuodun site in Jiangsu Yixing; the Shang period Huanbei city-site in Henan Anyang; the Jiuliandun tombs of the Chu State in Hubei Zaoyang; the Liye city-site of the Warring States, Qin and Han periods and the inscribed slips and tablets of the Qin Dynasty discovered in Hunan Longshan; the ruined Changhemen gate of the Northern Wei period palace-city in the Han-Wei city of Luoyang, Henan; and the wine-brewing workshop site at Lidu in Jiangxi Jinxian. The meeting reflects the newest advances of Chinese archaeology and promotes the development of the archaeological cause in China and the deepening of related academic studies.展开更多

The academic lectures at the meeting reported six items of major archaeological results. These are the discoveries of the settlement-site at Xinglonggou in Chifeng City, Inner Mongolia; the city-site at Taosi in Xiangfen City, Shanxi; the site and tombs at Daxinzhuang in Jinan City, Shandong; the compound sites of the Han period at Sanyangzhuang in Neihuang, Henan; the Shi tomb of the Northern Zhou period in Xi'an, Shaanxi ; and the Liao period tomb on Turki Hill in Tongliao City, Inner Mongolia. In addition, there were accounts of recent advances in archaeolozoological studies. The attendants made deep-going discussions. Reflecting the newest accomplishments in Chinese archaeology, the forum has great importance to the further development of archaeology and related disciplines.展开更多
