Thomas Cleary's Translation of Chinese Military Classics & Its Implication for Translation Teaching

No research has been done to explore how the Chinese military classics have been studied and translated in the west.In order to fill the void,this paper tries to study Thomas Cleary’s translation of Chinese military classics.

Discussion on the Translation of Chinese Classics

Since the 16th Party Congress,the central government has put forward in several situations that Chinese culture must spread to other countries,and as the essence of Chinese culture,Chinese classics become the major carriers for the completion of the task.Translation is an important tool for the communication of culture,and some scholars have published some theoretical articles discussing the topic,which has promoted the development of it.This article summarizes the theoretical articles on translation of classical works(especially about English translation)in recent years and discusses who must take the burden of translation and how to translate them.Finally,the article puts forward the principles of translation on Chinese classics.

Reception of Translated Classics of Traditional Chinese Medicine in the Spanish-speaking World:A Survey of Seven Spanish Versions of Huangdi Neijing(The Yellow Emperor’s Inner Classic)

Previous studies on translations of Huangdi Neijing(The Yellow Emperor’s Inner Classic)have focused on English versions;little attention has been given to non-English translations.The present study is the first investigation of the reception of the seven Spanish versions of Huangdi Neijing in terms of three parameters:collection records in libraries worldwide;book reviews and citation counts in international journals;and customer reviews on Amazon.The results revealed four features of Spanish translations and communication of Huangdi Neijing in terms of reception of academia,reception of general readers,the center of translation and communication,and the role of Chinese scholars.These factors demonstrate the marginal status of Spanish translations of traditional Chinese medicine(TCM)classics.The implications are summarized in hopes of promoting the translation and communication of TCM classics in the Spanish-speaking world and to provide insights into the communication of TCM culture in the non-English-speaking world.

Unfaithfulness or Expressiveness？ On KU Hung-ming＇s Translation of Chinese Classics From the Perspective of Translation Norms

As a beak with the traditional ＂prescriptive＂ approach and an important complement to translation theories, translation norms thus open up a descriptive and target-oriented perspective for the translation practice and study. For the successful access of the translation text into the target culture, the translator has to make choices between two languages, texts and cultures, etc.. Thus the translation norms are revealed. This paper shows the operation of translation norms as seen from the English version of Chinese classics by KU Hung-ming and analyzes why KU Hung-ming＇s translation of Confucian classics such as Lun Yu and Zhong Yong enjoyed greater popularity among Western readers than the translation of Western missionaries. The paper also holds that the unfaithful translations regarded by a source text-oriented approach were actually where KU was most successful in implementing his translation strategies to achieve expressiveness.

The Importance of the Classics in the Transmission of Chinese Medicine to the West

Classics is passed on through interpretation.The development of Chinese classics relies on the specified core values,thus the interpretation of Chinese ancient civilization shall target realizing common values in the international community.The project of"Chinese Classics"emphasizes introducing Chinese ancient classics.With the development of globalization,the tradition of Chinese language determines how Chinese civilization becomes an integral part of the world civilization.Culture is in the experience of travelling while civilization is in reading—to put the people first and share the ancient classic works demonstrate the practical implementation of Pragmatics of Chinese classics and pave the way for the interpretation of popularized and globalized Chinese classics.

Interpretation and Translation of Chinese Ancient Primer Classics in China Review

China Review was an important medium for cultural exchange between China and the West in the late 19th century.China Review was first published in Hong Kong.It mainly reports on languages,literature,local customs,and geography in the Far East,known as“the first genuine sinological journal in the Western World”.There are many translations and comments on Chinese Ancient Primer classics in China Review.Representative sinologists such as James Legge and Herbert Giles have and primer classics and published many research works.It had played a significant role in the overseas dissemination of primer classics in the century dissemination.

The Significances of the Translating of Chinese Classics

The translating of Chinese classics plays an important role in the field of Chinese translation. Therefore, after reviewing the development of the translation of Chinese classics in China, this paper mainly explores the two major significances of the translating of Chinese classics. Despite some problems that exist, however, with corresponding measures, the translating of Chinese classics will absolutely have a bright future ahead in the field of China.

Clinical research report on traditional Chinese patent medicines and traditional Chinese classic famous prescriptions(2022)

Objective:The paper is to comprehensively summarize and analyze the basic situation and methodological quality of clinical randomized controlled trials(RCTs)of traditional Chinese patent medicines and traditional Chinese classic famous prescriptions published in 2022,to provide evidence and reasonable suggestions for the advancement of clinical research and the formulation of policies and guidelines.Methods:The Evidence Database System of clinical evidence-based evaluation of traditional Chinese medicine was searched,and data from China National Knowledge Infrastructure(CNKI),PubMed,and other databases were supplemented.The search duration was from January 1,2022,to December 31,2022.RCTs of traditional Chinese patent medicines and traditional Chinese classic famous prescriptions were included as the source of clinical evidence,and published information,sample size,intervention,control measures,treatment course,methodological quality,and key link report were analyzed and evaluated.Results:A total of 1,464 RCTs of traditional Chinese patent medicines were included,which comprised 667 types of traditional Chinese patent medicines;“traditional Chinese patent medicines+Western medicine vs.Western medicine”was the most widely used intervention and control setting,involving 417 RCTs(28.48%).A total of 245 RCTs of traditional Chinese classic famous prescriptions were included,comprising 55 types of traditional Chinese classic famous prescriptions.“Decoction+conventional treatment vs.conventional treatment”was the most widely used intervention and control setting,with 87 RCTs(35.51%).Published RCTs on traditional Chinese patent medicines and traditional Chinese classic famous prescriptions were limited by the study design and implementation.Most“allocation concealment”and“blinding of patients and personnel”were rated as medium to high risk.There are insufficient reports on key research links such as experimental registration and ethical approval.Conclusions:The number of RCTs on traditional Chinese patent medicines has decreased in 2022,but there has been a slight improvement in the research quality and impact.There are relatively few studies on traditional Chinese classic famous prescriptions.Measures must be taken to improve clinical trial design,implementation,and reporting.Methodological experts should be invited to provide professional technical guidance on the trial design.In the research implementation process,attention should be paid to quality control,particularly the standardization of the randomized execution.

Guidance and Application of Chinese Classical Gardens in Modern Gardens

As a representative of Eastern gardens,Chinese classical gardens have always held an extremely important position in world gardens.They not only carry the profound cultural and ideological connotations of China,but also have great aesthetic achievements that are worth exploring.In the process of urbanization,the construction of urban gardens is also progressing rapidly with the development of the city,and modern gardens are reflected more.Gradually,people began to realize that the aesthetics of Chinese classical gardens can collide with the design concepts of modern gardens,in order to conform to the current development trend of the new era.This paper compares and analyzes the differences and connections between Chinese classical gardens and modern gardens from three aspects:gardening concepts,gardening elements,and gardening techniques.Combined with relevant cases,it studies the practical application of Chinese classical garden design techniques in modern gardens,and explores and promotes the art of Chinese classical garden design.

A Descriptive Translation Study of Chinese Translation of French Musical Roméo et Juliette

This paper presents a Descriptive Translation Study(DTS)analysis of the Chinese translation of the French musical adaptation of Romeo and Juliet,titled Roméo et Juliette:de la Haineàl’Amour.Romeo and Juliet,a timeless play by Shakespeare,has captivated audiences since its premiere in 1597 and has been adapted into various forms,including stage productions,films,musicals,and operas.The focus of this study is to analyze the Chinese translation of the French musical adaptation from a DTS perspective.DTS is an approach that aims to understand the translation process and its reception in the target culture.By examining language choices,cultural references,and adaptation strategies,this study seeks to shed light on how the Chinese translation of the French musical functions within the target culture and influences the reception and interpretation of the source text.This analysis is expected to gain insights into the challenges and strategies employed in translating a musical adaptation of Romeo and Juliet into Chinese.The findings of this study will contribute to the field of translation studies and provide a deeper understanding of the complexities involved in the translation of musical works.

The Aesthetic Presentation of Chinese Classical Music in Piano Performance

Piano art has a certain sense of musical beauty,and the performance of piano works can fully reflect the artistic and aesthetic connotations of music works.In piano performance,the aesthetic presentation of Chinese classical music can further enhance the performance effect and give the audience and listeners a better artistic experience.Therefore,this paper analyzes the artistic characteristics of Chinese classical music and the characteristics of piano performance and discusses the aesthetic presentation and effect of Chinese classical music in piano performance.

The Comparative Study of Two Translated Texts on Huangdirent Translating Styles o'n s Internal Classics——Simple Analysis on the Diffe Culture-Specific Lexicon, Figure of Speech and Four-Chinese-Character Structures

Huangdi's Internal Classics(Neijin) is one of the most important ancient medical classics, which plays far-reaching influence in medical field. More and more domestic and overseas scholars published their translated texts on Neijing. Due to the diversity of editions and different understanding, the translating styles and contents are widely different. This study will focus on the different translating styles on culture-specific lexicon、figure of speech and four-Chinese-character structures in Neijin.

经典水墨动画运用于幼儿园中华优秀传统文化教育中的可为、难为与应为

极具民族文化特色的经典水墨动画兼具飘逸空灵的艺术表现形式、丰富鲜活的中国故事和“游”“悟”的精神境界,具有唤美、启智和养性的整全性教育价值,是幼儿园中华优秀传统文化教育中精气神兼备的可用资源。当前,幼儿园传统文化教育是落实立德树人根本任务和铸牢中华民族共同体意识的奠基性教育工程,应充分运用包括经典水墨动画在内的中华优秀传统文化资源。然而,目前经典水墨动画在幼儿园的运用却面临缺乏运用意识、缺少运用资源和欠缺运用能力等困境。因此,应重塑价值,立教育意识;优化条件,拓教育资源;畅通成长,强教育能力。

Summary of the Studies on Classical Chinese Folk Houses

Research fruits in classical Chinese folk houses since 1980s were summarized in this study from various perspectives,such as architectural structure,spatial layout,decoration,aesthetic value,regional features and historical attributes,meanwhile,the future study orientation in this field was also discussed.

Expression Forms of Spiritual Cultures in Classical Chinese Gardens

By studying close links between classical Chinese gardens and traditional Chinese cultures,it was stressed that spiritual characteristics pursued by classical Chinese gardens were inevitable components of their expression forms,which were also closely related to classical Chinese philosophy,social system and other cultural phenomena.Characteristics of classical Chinese gardens in terms of psychology were analyzed,and it was proposed that they had particular cultural connotations in the spiritual expression and appeal,that is,natural view of "human-nature oneness",etiquette culture of "coordinating with the nature by etiquette",seclusion view of "living in seclusion and pursuing a peaceful life".Concrete expressions of spiritual cultures in classical Chinese gardens were discussed,specifically,the expression of natural views was demonstrated as "respecting the nature,all creatures having its own course(Tao,way of evolution),adopting measures suiting local conditions,skillfully borrowing from other landscapes,simulating natural landscapes";as for the expression of seclusion view,it was demonstrated as the expression of seclusion cultures by inscriptions and steles,the expression of "seclusion" by implicit garden settings;etiquette and hierarchy of classical Chinese gardens were discussed from the perspective of private garden layout and residence construction.On this basis,spiritual world of ancient Chinese were further stu-died,mental patterns of Chinese were believed as the source of classical gardens,and what those hills,water,plants,architecture as well as their combinations expressed were spiritual pursuits of Chinese people.

On Wisdom of "Luo Shu" and Classical Chinese Garden Art

As a thinking pattern,"Luo Shu" has been widely used in the classical Chinese garden art with its core lying in the application of nine-palace square.This paper analyzed the wide application of "Luo Shu" wisdom in classical Chinese garden art,which can be summarized into 3 respects including the creation technique of yin and yang(masculine and feminine elements) contrast,the overall-balanced gardening concept and the aesthetic pursuit in curve design.Through analyzing the application of numbers in the "Luo Shu" pattern,the application of contrast,balance and harmony in classical Chinese garden were revealed.

Enlightenment on the Construction of Modern Urban Plazas from Classical Chinese Gardens

Researches on modern urban plazas in China were reviewed,phenomena caused by the shortage of proper theoretical guidance such as blind imitation and fixed forms of urban plazas were pointed out,and it was emphasized that researches on urban plazas with Chinese characteristics should be enhanced.By analyzing features of traditional western plazas and classical Chinese gardens,this study proposed that by combining with their practical functions the construction of modern urban plazas in China should maintain traditional concepts and aesthetic characteristics of Chinese people on the basis of satisfying demands of the public to the best.The enlightenment on the construction of modern urban plazas from classical Chinese gardens was particularly analyzed,the application of garden aesthetics,components,and landscaping methods of classical Chinese gardens were highlighted,and moreover,it was put forward that the relationship between human and human,human and society,human and nature implied in classical Chinese gardens would surely bring profound inspiration to urban plazas.

六味地黄丸在儿科中的历史沿革与现代临床应用分析

梳理六味地黄丸在儿科中的历史沿革与现代临床应用。本文采用文献计量学方法,在中华医典、中医典海及中国知网等数据库检索六味地黄丸在儿科应用的文献,分析六味地黄丸历史源流、方药组成、功效主治和现代临床应用等。从宋代至清代,用药剂量上,六味地黄丸中泽泻、牡丹皮、茯苓三味药用量有增加,而熟地黄、山药、山茱萸三味药用量基本不变;功效上,从宋代以补益肝肾为主到明清补益与清热并重;临床适应证上,主治病症越来越广泛。现代临床应用方面,六味地黄丸在儿科治疗呼吸系统疾病较多,其次为泌尿系统疾病、内分泌系统疾病、神经系统疾病等。综上所述,通过对六味地黄丸在儿科应用的古今文献考证研究,以期为六味地黄丸更广泛的临床运用和深入研究提供参考。
