For the successful access of the translation text into the target culture, the translator has to make choices between two languages, texts and cultures, etc.. Thus the translation norms are revealed. This paper shows the operation of translation norms as seen from the English version of Chinese classics by KU Hung-ming and analyzes why KU Hung-ming's translation of Confucian classics such as Lun Yu and Zhong Yong enjoyed greater popularity among Western readers than the translation of Western missionaries. In order to clarify the essence of Pound's early poetics under the influence of Chinese classical poems, the paper starts from the discussion of the influence of Cathay (1915) and his translation of Cathay; then it provides a detailed analysis of the relationship between Chinese classical poems and Pound's creation; and finally it has given an analysis of "In a Station of the Metro". Pound absorbed different poetic concepts from all of them and transformed his poetry from the conventional Romanticism to the innovative Modemism. What Pound innovated in the poetry composition is of great importance if the new era wishes to shake off the banality and out-of-date tradition in literature. Pound changed a whole generation of poets and set a good example for those who desire to write in a new way展开更多

In reality, however, many CEDs in general use fail more or less to function as an indispensable aid in TOCCIE actions by offering either inadequate information or, more alarmingly, partial or even total misinformation in Chinese-civilization-specific entries that defy easy rendering. This paper attempts to illustrate this deplorable fact with a case study of the Buddhism-related entries (BILE) in three CEDs representative of state-of-the-art Chinese bilingual lexicography. The conclusion is that it is high time to substantially improve the CED as an important TOCCIE aid, so that a large-scale, systematic execution of TOCCIE, which seems befitting the global image of present-day China as a rising power not only politico-economically but also culturally, will be performed with greater facility.展开更多

For example, they both recognize the role of language in constructing, and limiting, knowledge and reality.
