Kidney stones are a common urinary system condition that can progress to kidney disease. Previous studies on the association between tea consumption and kidney stones are inconsistent. On the Chinese-Western Cultural Conflict in the Cross-cultural Communication

In the context of globalization,the cross-cultural communication between China and the West have become more and more popular.People of different cultural backgrounds must meet the following conditions before they have effective communication with one another.Besides having agood command of foreign languages,they need to understand foreign culture,experience and know the differences between the native culture and the foreign culture.However,because of historical traditions and different cultural backgrounds,the Chinese and westerners differ greatly in social value,mode of thinking and code of conduct,which results in the emergence of cultural conflict in cross-cultural communication and brings some adverse effects to them.

Gene Flow from Transgenic Chinese Cabbage (Brassica campestris ssp. chinensis var.utilis) to Related Cruciferae Species Through Outcrossing

It was substantiated by morphological observation, chromosome and DNA identification that the bar gene, conferring the resistance to herbicide basta in transgenic Chinese cabbage ( Brassica campestris ssp. chinensis var. utilis Tsen et Lee), could intrude into the genomes of turnip ( B. campestris ssp. rapifera), heading Chinese cabbage B. campestris ssp. pekinensis) and other non-heading Chinese cabbage ( B. campestris ssp. chinensis in a relatively high frequency while into genome of B. napus at a low frequency via natural cross-pollination in open field. Herbicide resistant hybrids of B. nigra, B. carinata, and B. juncea could be obtained at certain frequency in the greenhouse by hand pollination. At no time did the resistant hybrid plants of transgenic Chinese cabbage with B. oleracea, R. sativus and seven wild weeds, widespread in China, gained in our experiments.

The Study of Knowledge-sharing Practices of Chinese Universities from the Perspective of Cross-Cultural Communication

With the increasing globalization and international communication,numerous overseas students and visiting scholars study and exchange knowledge in Chinese universities.They confront the challenge of how to effectively deal with the knowledge sharing in a cross- cultural setting. The purpose of the study is to examine knowledge sharing in Chinese universities in the cross-communication setting. First,the concepts of cross-cultural communication and knowledge sharing are briefly introduced. The paper explores the internal and external factors affecting knowledge sharing in Chinese universities. The findings show the strategies of knowledge sharing that should be employed,including promoting mutual trust,establishing knowledge sharing culture,the incentive and rewards system and the ShareNet platform.

Cross-cultural Adaptation Analysis and Countermeasures of Overseas Chinese Students——Take University of Lincoln as an Example

This paper is an exploratory,empirical study of the Cross-Cultural Adaptation(CCA)issues of Overseas Chinese Stu⁃dents(OCS)studying at the University of Lincoln.The project identifies OCS own language proficiency,motivation of studying abroad and intercultural adaptation attitudes and strategies as the main influencing factors in students’CCA.Research methods in⁃clude Language class observation,a questionnaire survey and interviews.Additional data collection methods include using network communication tools to conduct interviews with OCS,such as Wechat,QQ,Skype and e-mail etc.Further analysis of its causes makes a meaningful contribution to practical strategies and suggestions on how to better develop and cultivate cross-cultural adapt⁃ability.

A Contrastive Study of English and Chinese Taboos in Cross-cultural Communication

A commonly cultural phenomenon in the human history is taboo, which is a strong social prohibition related to any area of human society. Different social and cultural backgrounds will produce different taboos. Lacking the knowledge of social customs may cause conflicts in crosscultural communication. So it is necessary to know more about taboos. This paper analyzes the the cultural similarities and difference between Chinese and English taboos in a contrastive way in cross-cultural communication and stresses the importance of?understanding and mastering taboos, so that they can reduce the inter-communicative barriers and mistakes and improve their communicative ability.

An Investigation on Cross-cultural Communication between ForeignTeachers and Chinese Students in College EFL Classes

Nowadays,more and more foreign teachers have come to or been invited to China,joining in the English education cause,especially in colleges and universities.Using the methods of questionnaires and interviews,this paper conducts a survey of three foreign teachers and one hundred Chinese English majors at Qufu Normal University,aiming to explore their different perceptions and attitudes towards varied aspects of cross-cultural communication in native EFL classes.The quantitative and qualitative data obtained from the survey were both processed and analyzed from such categories as "teaching contents","teaching attitude","teaching methods","classroom interaction" and "cultural background".The findings suggested that intercultural communication plays a significant role in the process of English language teaching and learning at college native EFL classes.

Intercultural Collaboration in Group Work at Chinese Universities

The empirical work on intercultural communication issues at university settings have mainly focused on the minority cul-tural groups and the majority groups are usually neglected.Most Chinese scholars are engaged in the development of cross-cultural communication competence of the Chinese EFL learners,the few researches on intercultural relations in Chinese universities are also on the international students.To compare the attitudes and motivations of both the International Students in China(ISCs)and the Chinese Home Students(CHSs)in intercultural collaboration(IC)in the group work,group discussion and questionnaire survey areemployed.Survey of the 445 CHSs and 87 ISCs show that the IC environment at Chinese universities is far from satisfactory.Those who have IC experiences find they have encountered difficulties in adapting to each other's language,race,religion,agenda,etc.Chinese students'language difficulty is regarded both groups as the first obstacle in their collaboration,but personality is the first concern in their choice of a workmate.Neither language proficiency nor IC courses are significant factor in their motivation for IC involvement.What they want most is the real collaboration opportunities and programs.The findings may provide some reference for Chinese universities in their construction of international and intercultural campus environment.

Cultural Influences on English-Chinese Translation

This paper analyses the cultural influences on English and Chinese translation.Cultural differences between English and Chinese have existed in geographical culture,traditional culture,religious culture,historical culture and customary culture in their long history.Only when English learners have a better understanding of the cultural factors as well as their influences on two languages,can they do a good job of English-Chinese translation.For English teachers,they should strengthen culture education and guide students to contact with Western culture materials extensively,and improve their cross-cultural awareness.

Track theory rested on the foundation of the radial distribution of dose from δ rays as the central contribution of atomic physics to heavy ion radiobiology.Here,a new calculation of the radial distribution of dose is applied, in which the classical angular distribution of dose of delta rays and a logarithmic polynomial representation of the electron range-energy relation are used,to form the basis of the present thindown calculation.Calculations of inactivation cross sections for heavy ions in the track width regime displaying thindown for E.Colt B/r and Bs-1,and for Bacillus Subtilus are straightforward for these are 1-hit detectors,Calculations for V-79 hamster cells are more complex.They follow the original development of this model for eucaryotic cells,and make use of the cross sections calculated for hypothetical internal targets which are then asserted to be proportional to the measured cellular inactivation cross sections.The results are in reasonable agreement with experimental data.

随着越来越多非英文关联数据集的发布,语言差异成了数据万维网中资源间相互链接的障碍。对于包括中文家谱在内的文化遗产资源,以关联数据技术为基础的跨语言信息服务有助于保障资源的获取,促进国际交流。此文介绍了关联数据中跨语言本体匹配的概念、代表项目和在文化遗产领域的相关实践,并以2016年上海图书馆开放数据应用开发竞赛作品Learn Chinese Surnames作为案例,展示了用关联数据的消费技术实现中文家谱数据与DBpedia、GeoNames、Wiktionary之间的跨语言匹配,以丰富中文家谱中的相关英文描述的实践,并总结了开发关联数据应用的经验。该研究有助于消除关联数据集之间的语言障碍,实现跨语言的家谱信息服务。

Effects of marker density and minor allele frequency on genomic prediction for growth traits in Chinese Simmental beef cattle

Genomic selection has been demonstrated as a powerful technology to revolutionize animal breeding. However, marker density and minor allele frequency can affect the predictive ability of genomic estimated breeding values （GEBVs）. To investigate the impact of marker density and minor allele frequency on predictive ability, we estimated GEBVs by constructing the different subsets of single nucleotide polymorphisms （SNPs） based on varying markers densities and minor allele frequency （MAF） for average daily gain （ADG）, live weight （LW） and carcass weight （CW） in 1 059 Chinese Simmental beef cattle. Two strategies were proposed for SNP selection to construct different marker densities： 1） select evenly-spaced SNPs （Strategy 1 ）, and 2） select SNPs with large effects estimated from BayesB （Strategy 2）. Furthermore, predictive ability was assessed in terms of the correlation between predicted genomic values and corrected phenotypes from 10-fold cross-validation. Predictive ability for ADG, LW and CW using autosomal SNPs were 0.13＋0.002, 0.21＋0.003 and 0.25＋0.003, respectively. In our study, the predictive ability increased dramatically as more SNPs were included in analysis until 200K for Strategy 1. Under Strategy 2, we found the predictive ability slightly increased when marker densities increased from 5K to 20K, which indicated the predictive ability of 20K （3% of 770K） SNPs with large effects was equal to the predictive ability of using all SNPs. For different MAF bins, we obtained the highest predictive ability for three traits with MAF bin 0.01-0.1. Our result suggested that designing a low-density chip by selecting low frequency markers with large SNP effects sizes should be helpful for commercial application in Chinese Simmental cattle.
