The results show that the apparent viscosity of pulp changed along with the beating degree, pulp consistency and shearing velocity. With the increasing of pulp consistency, the apparent viscosity of pulp increased gradually. Beating degree of pulp had an effect on microstructure of pulp. The apparent viscosity of pulp declined as beating degree of pulp increased, and the apparent viscosity of pulp fell along with the shearing velocity increasing. Based on the results, the rheological models are set up. The models showed that the fluid types of the low consistency pulp could be described as pseudoplastics fluids (non-Newtonian fluids).展开更多
Chinese fir was compressed by vacuum hot pressing and conventional hot pressing at different temperatures(180℃,200℃ and 220℃),respectively.The color parameters of the heat-compressed sample were measured,the relati...Chinese fir was compressed by vacuum hot pressing and conventional hot pressing at different temperatures(180℃,200℃ and 220℃),respectively.The color parameters of the heat-compressed sample were measured,the relative mechanical properties of the material were tested and changes in the chemistry of fir were investigated using Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy(FTIR)and Xray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS).The results indicated that the color difference between compressed and untreated wood increased gradually with the increase of temperature.Compared with the conventional hot pressing treatment,the color difference(ΔE*)of the Chinese fir treated by vacuum hot pressing decreased by 43.73%,69.91%,and 77.17%,respectively.The mechanical properties(bending elastic modulus and bending strength)of Chinese fir treated by vacuum hot pressing were significantly improved.The 24-hour water absorption thickness expansion rate of fir treated by vacuum hot pressing is smaller than that of conventional hot pressing.It is implied that vacuum hot pressing treatment is an effective method to produce compressed wood,which can improve the mechanical properties and dimensional stability of wood,and reduce the influence of carbonization on wood color.展开更多
To improve the mechanical properties of fast-growing Chinese fir(Cunnighamia lanceolate),expand its range of application,increase its value,and avoid the environmental pollution caused by impregnation with synthetic r...To improve the mechanical properties of fast-growing Chinese fir(Cunnighamia lanceolate),expand its range of application,increase its value,and avoid the environmental pollution caused by impregnation with synthetic resin,Chinese fir was impregnated with a shellac solution.Since the shellac solution was difficult to penetrate into fast-growing Chinese fir,so microwave pretreatment was used to irradiate the wood to improve the permeability.This study investigated the effects of four factors,including the content of moisture in the wood before it was microwaved,the chamber pressure of microwave,the time of microwaving and the vacuum impregnation on the mechanical properties of Chinese fir wood.When the moisture content of wood before microwave was approximately 50%–60%,after microwaving and impregnation,the ultimate strength in static bending(modulus of rupture[MOR])and strength in compression perpendicular to the grain(SCPG)of the wood increased significantly.A microwave time of 100 seconds was more effective at improving the MOR and SCPG of the wood.If the wood was microwaved for too short or long period of time,the microwave pretreatment was not effective.When the samples were immersed in shellac for a longer period,the MOR and SCPG of Chinese fir gradually increased,but when the wood was impregnated for more than 12 hours,the increases were not significant.After the shellac penetrated the Chinese fir wood,it spread on the inner wall surface of tracheid to form a shellac film and easily formed plug-like deposits in microcapillaries.The use of Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy,scanning electron microscopy and scanning electron microscopy-energy dispersion x-ray indicated that the microwave pretreatment can destroy the pit membranes on tracheids and facilitate the ability of shellac to penetrate the channel.展开更多
Elastic and strength properties (proportional-limit stress (O'prop), Young's modulus (E), breaking stress (O'max) in static bending parallel to grain in a longitudinal direction), as well as stress relaxati...Elastic and strength properties (proportional-limit stress (O'prop), Young's modulus (E), breaking stress (O'max) in static bending parallel to grain in a longitudinal direction), as well as stress relaxation in air-dried condition and water-saturated conditions at seven different constant temperatures and increasing and decreasing temperatures were investigated for wood from Chinese-fir and poplar plantations. The results show that hygrothermal conditions considerably affect these mechanical properties. The higher the moisture content (MC) or temperature, the lower the strength of wood. Further investigation of the effects of constant temperature on stress relaxation indicates that high temperature specimens have low relaxation moduli and high fluidity. In the case of increasing temperature the range of the modulus of relaxation is larger than in the case of a reduction in temperature, while the residual moduli do not show large differences. This is because the modulus at high temperatures decreases more than that at low temperatures. The fluidity of specimens in a state of water desorption increases slowly at the beginning, increases quickly until the MC reaches an equilibrium moisture content (EMC) and then becomes stable, which is quite different from that in a water-saturated state. Fluidity in a desorption state is much higher than in a water-saturated state. This is probably due to the fact that the former is in an unstable state which can be interpreted as a state with internal strain and has therefore a greater potential to release strain.展开更多
