The railway passenger seat inventory control problem in China was addressed. Chinese passenger railway operation features and seat inventory control practice were analyzed firstly. A dynamic demand forecasting method was introduced to forecast the coming demand in a ticket booking period. By clustering, passengers' historical ticket bookings were used to forecast the demand to come in a ticket booking period with least squares support vector machine. Three seat inventory control methods: non-nested booking limits, nested booking limits and bid-price control, were modeled under a single-fare class. Different seat inventory control methods were compared with the same demand based on ticket booking data of Train T15 from Beijing West to Guangzhou. The result shows that the dynamic non-nested booking limits control method performs the best, which gives railway operators evidence to adjust the remaining capacity in a ticket booking period.展开更多

It's necessary to comprehend and consider opportunity and challenge in Chinese futures market from the viewpoint of risk management. With different ARCH models, we find heteroscedasticity does exist in Chinese market, so we adopt the Variance Ratio. We test empirically the prices of Chinese futures market from 1993 to 2002. The results show that only futures price of copper meets the random walk, thereby confirming the weak form market efficiency. It also means that the function of price discovery is weak and the risk of futures market is poor. Finally, we give much constructive policy advice.展开更多

Inorder to meet the needs of sustainability of enterprises and protect environment, the concept of green management isdeveloped and regarded as an important direction of management theory of the 21st century. Though there are manytheories and practices about green management in western countries, they are built based on the developed marketeconomy, which are not suitable for Chinese enterprises absolutely. By analyzing the viewpoints and models of theoverseas and domestic experts and scholars, combining characteristic of China’s market economy, this paper points outthe real connotation of enterprise green management - the combination of ecological harmony (harmony between humanand nature) with human harmony (harmony among people), establishes a 3D theoretical model, points out the defects ofenterprise’s green management in China, reanalyzes and redesigned enterprise green management, which paves the wayfor the deeper and broader development of green management.展开更多

In the last of these stages some problems persist and will affect management performance. CWRM was a decentralised, imperfectly codified and weakly implemented system that lacked a sound market policy, rational water prices, water conservation awareness, technical support and a performance appraisal system. The government of China proposed two new strategies in 2009: the Three Red Lines and the Interconnected River System Network (IRSN). This paper analyses these two strategies and reflects on new CWRM concepts. Both strategies strive for the sustainable utilisation of water resources and human-water harmony. The concepts, quantification method and application of harmony theory to water resources management is discussed. Applications of harmony theory to water resources management include (i) harmony between humans and nature; (ii) a harmony strategy for water resources management; (iii) a rational allocation model for water resources among different areas and departments based on harmony theory; (iv) harmony-based water allocation issues associated with transboundary rivers; (v) harmony-based interbasin water transfer problems; and (vi) harmony-based control of pollution discharge. We conclude by discussing how harmony theory and its applications provide an appropriate pathway for water resource management in China.展开更多

Japan embarked gradually on the road of seclusion from the outside world, while China was in the turbulent period of the dynastic change from Ming to Qing Dynasty. Accompanied with the change of the situation in both sides, the nature and subject of Chinese society's management in Japan had shifted accordingly. That is, the transition from autonomy to governance had taken place, behind which was hidden by the shift of attitude that the defensive and vigilant mood replaced the hospitality and trust as to the Chinese, even the shift of ideology from a positive model to an uncivilized country as to China. The article is intended to outline the change of the Chinese management in Nagasaki during the 17^th century at different stages, focusing on the process and context of the transition from autonomy to governance, and simultaneously pays close attention to the coexisting shift, acquainting the readers with the implication of the transition.展开更多

Specifically, we investigate how Chinese entrepreneurship research meets the standards of rigor and relevance based on a review of 64 papers published in five major scholarly journals in the Chinese mainland. Results show that Chinese entrepreneurship research has paid comparatively little attention to the "rigor" dimension, while focusing more heavily on practical relevance than on academic relevance on the "relevance" dimension. Future directions for China's entrepreneurship research are also discussed.展开更多
