The analysis of the data, collected and filtered from carefully designed questionnaires and interviews, showed that students ’ L2 learning activities and study-abroad motivations underwent changes after their overseas experiences. Regarding the former, the overseas environment was the cause of the change because it provided students with more chances to talk with native speakers and increased the frequency of their using L2 in their daily life. Regarding the latter, the decline of the students ’ major study-abroad motivations was partly because they tended to treat L2 learning as a tool for realizing other goals and partly because the students had got other important motivations. In view of these findings, suggestions were raised to help future students get better prepared for their overseas study or short-term exchange life.展开更多

However, some destinations for international education have declined in number of Chinese students in recent years, such as the US. More students tend to go to a country that does not only speak English, but also has the similar culture with their own country like Singapore. The objective of this paper is to find out the level of integration of international Chinese students into local Singaporean communities. Specifically, the research focuses on how international Chinese students interact with local Chinese communities and other local residents through activities, such as participating and volunteering in local Chinese events/festivals or public spaces. In addition, it also explores mutual feelings between the Chinese students and the local Singaporean community. Subsequently, the paper also examines about how friendships, institutions, and motivations influence Chinese students' integrations into the local community. Data were obtained primarily through surveys and face-to-face interview. Also, towards the conclusion, the paper gives some preliminary suggestions to engage more international Chinese students and bond them closer to the local community in order to create the best experience during their stay and study in Singapore.展开更多

People tend to believe that it is simply easy for Chinese students to excel academically at US universities, but this is not necessarily true, especially for students fresh from China. Based on a survey of Chinese students studying at US universities and interviews with American professors, this essay reveals Chinese students' academic frustrations and struggles that have been overlooked due to their high scores, and points out that it is the mismatch between Chinese and American teaching and learning styles that leads to this difficulty. Furthermore, this essay concludes with the author providing suggestions for both Chinese and American educators to help future Chinese students make the most of their higher education opportunity at American universities.展开更多

There is limited research about Chinese students studying in Australia. In particular, the learning experience of Chinese nursing students has not been fully explored nor understood.Discussion: to enhance teaching and learning in international education contexts, and to cater better to international students, it is important to understand their experiences and perspectives. There is no better way to achieve this level of understanding than to let students' voices be heard, to let them speak for and about themselves because reality exists within these students' perceptions. Conclusions: in the context of international education, narrative inquiry as a research methodology, when used with sensitivity and reflexivity, through the power of stories, offers a new dimension in the international education research.展开更多

Based on this theory, Chinese students in the United States are studied from three perspectives: linguistically, culturally, and social psychologically. It indicated that, to help Chinese students develop their English performance and cultural appreciation in this diverse world, the profession of English teaching in China should cover a variety of domains, including linguistic, cultural and psychological input. Both American and Chinese education can benefit from this special group of Chinese students if they can be better understood, and used as a bridge between China and U. S. cultural and academic exchange. In the meantime, the mirror held up to the Chinese students in these perspectives reflects not only who they are but also who they can become.展开更多
