The author compares Chinese and western language features in tourist texts, shares four strategies in translating Chinese tourist texts,and calls on building a corpus for Chinese-English translation of tourist texts.

Chinglish in Chinese-English Interpreting in Light of Chinese Thought Patterns

As most interpreters in China are native speakers of Chinese, it is inevitable that the deep-rooted Chinese thinking patters lead to Chinglish in Chinese-English interpreting, which is shown in both lexical and syntactical levels. Based on the theories and problems appeared in Chinese-English interpreting, this article attempts to explore the major phenomena of Chinglish and their relations with Chinese thought patterns and proposes coping strategies.

This paper is on the Chinese-English advertisement translation. It gives people an orderly discussion with examples in three parts:the problems in current advertisement translation, the causes of these problems, essential steps of making the Chinese-English translation of advertisement onto an appropriate way. This paper also suggests the principles of Chinese-English advertisement translation:natural, precise and understandable.

Cultural Vacancy in Chinese-English Translation and Its Compensation Strategies

Attempts are made to explore the relationship between culture and translation, reasons are illustrated for the phenomenonof cultural vacancy and compensation methods for cultural vacancy are demonstrated in Chinese-English translation. Such strate-gies as literal translation, liberal translation, transliteration, annotation and cultural omission are of great guidance to our transla-tion practice.

Research on Parallel Corpus Based Chinese-English Lexicon Builder

Translation lexicons are fundamental to natural language processing tasks like machine translation and cross language information retrieval. This paper presents a lexicon builder that can auto extract (or assist lexicographer in compiling) the word translations from Chinese English parallel corpus. Key mechanisms in this builder system are further described, including co occurrence measure, indirection association resolution and multi word unit translation. Experiment results indicate the effectiveness of the authors’ method and the potentiality of the lexicon builder system.

Analysis of Chinglish in Chinese-English Translated lyrics

As English spreads across China, Chinglish appears and causes difficulties in international communication and does harm to the spreading of Chinese culture. This paper analyses six types of manifestation of the Chinglish in translated lyrics. And the author finds that although Chinglish could be a tool to produce an effect of amusement, it is still a misshapen and hybrid English and can be the inhibition of a successful international communication.

Design of Chinese-English Machine Translation System CEMT-Ⅱ

This paper describes the design of CEMT-Ⅱ, an interactive Chinese-English machine translation system. Based on the CEMT-Ⅰsystem, CEMT-Ⅱwill be developed to have the ability to translate Chinese scientific documents into English. Now an user-friendly interface has been worked out to solve various complex ambiguities. The Chinese user need not know English well since all the questions and choices are expressed in Chinese.

Exploring the Impact of Translanguaging on Chinese-speaking Students’Academic English Writing:Taking CET-4 as an Example

This qualitative research study attempts to discover the real thinking process of learners who are native Chinese speakers in Academic English Writing(AEW)through interviews.Introspecting an EFL learner’s thinking process in English writing is based on two theories:critical period hypothesis and translanguaging.The results of the study indicate that translanguaging has a positive impact on the English CET-4 writing of learners who lack proficiency in English.For those learners who lack proficiency in the second language,translanguaging is an effective auxiliary tool for them to complete AEW.

Analysis of English Testing Based on Reliability Theory in Language Testing-Taking the English Midterm Test for the First Grade of a Middle School in Hangzhou as an Example

Based on the reliability theory in language testing,this study analyzes the midterm English test of a first grade class in Hangzhou using SPSS software.We will analyze the overall structure and reliability of the test paper,and use cloze as a representative of objective questions to calculate their difficulty and discrimination,in order to explore the quality of the questions and the mastery of the knowledge learned by students.The purpose of this analysis and research is to improve the quality of exam questions and help teachers get useful information from exam results,thereby improving teaching quality.

Exploring Phonetic Differences and Cross-Linguistic Influences: A Comparative Study of English and Mandarin Chinese Pronunciation Patterns

This research provides guidance for improving language teaching methods, enabling teachers to design more effective pronunciation strategies and exercises based on the students’ native language backgrounds, thus enhancing learning outcomes. Additionally, cross-linguistic studies aid in improving speech recognition and conversion technologies, achieving higher accuracy and naturalness in multilingual speech processing systems. From a cultural exchange perspective, understanding and respecting the phonetic characteristics of different languages help to enhance the effectiveness and mutual understanding in cross-cultural communication. The comparative study of English and Mandarin pronunciation patterns not only provides a theoretical foundation for language education and technological applications but also promotes effective communication in multilingual environments. This thesis uses a comparative research method to elucidate the study of English and Mandarin pronunciation patterns. It begins with an analysis of the characteristics and similarities of the pronunciation patterns in both languages. The thesis then examines the differences between English and Mandarin pronunciation patterns through four aspects: the number and complexity of vowel phonemes, types and distribution of consonant phonemes, tones and stress, and intonation and phonetic phenomena. Finally, based on the comparative analysis of the differences, the thesis offers targeted policy recommendations for learning English and Mandarin.

A Study on the Stance-taking of Advanced Oral English Teaching Materials-A Case Study of Bridging Cultures

Based on the theory of stance in interactive linguistics and the corpus of Bridging Cultures,this paper studies the stance-taking of advanced oral English.By using a combination of quantitative and qualitative research to sort out and analyze the advanced oral corpus,the research finding suggests that people mainly use adjectives to express positive and negative stances,followed by nouns and verbs.Among the many grammatical constructions to express stances,“sub+is+adj”is the dominant structure,followed by“adv+adj”.It mainly presents four kinds of stance-taking in advanced oral English based on Bridging Cultures teaching materials:(1)positively evaluation stance-taking;(2)positive attitude stance-taking;(3)negative evaluation stance-taking;and(4)negative attitude stance-taking.

Surveying on English Mobile Learning Among University Students: Current State and Influencing Factors

Mobile learning integrates mobile technology with digital learning,offering flexible,personalized content and portable equipment.It enables access to rich content and enhances learning efficiency.Therefore,it has become mainstream to utilize mobile devices for English learning among university students’English learning.The current study aims to examine the current situation and influencing factors of university students’English mobile learning.98 university students in one university of Shanghai participated the study and the questionnaire was used to collect the data.The results indicated that most university students already have electronic devices to support mobile learning.Personal factors,environmental factors,digital literacy,and technological capabilities are the main factors affecting university students’English mobile learning.The current study has implications for learners,teachers,and software developers.Learners should adjust their learning motivation,play an active role,and fully utilize the mobile platform to obtain resources and improve learning efficiency.Teachers should incorporate the advantages of mobile teaching and promote categorized and tiered teaching.Software developers should add new functions on the basis of meeting the basic needs of learners and continuously innovate the mobile learning platform.

Cultivate Critical Thinking Ability via Students’ Presentations in College English Classes
