Analysis of Chinglish in Chinese-English Translated lyrics

As English spreads across China, Chinglish appears and causes difficulties in international communication and does harm to the spreading of Chinese culture. This paper analyses six types of manifestation of the Chinglish in translated lyrics. And the author finds that although Chinglish could be a tool to produce an effect of amusement, it is still a misshapen and hybrid English and can be the inhibition of a successful international communication.

Laifong Leung,based on the literature and materials from Chinese,English and Japanese,by using empirical approach and closing reading,produced Chinese-English combined version A Study of Liu Yong and His Lyrics.The work mainly probes into Liu Yong’s life story and closely analyzes the characteristics of his lyrics in the way of tune titles,thematic matters,images and diction,rhythm and structure,and his contributions to the establishment of Ci genre are dealt with.Therefore,it is rewarding to promote academic exchange and disseminate classical Chinese literature,and it is pioneering to provide a new angle in the study of Liu Yong and his lyrics by using quantitative analysis.

Analysis of Song Lyrics Translation——Taking Viva La Vida and Set Love Free for examples

Based on Katharina Reiss's definition of the audio-medial text, this thesis first makes plain the unique feature of song lyrics translation while differentiating between the above two confusable concepts. Furthermore, it puts forward principles which lay emphasis on the balancing of three yardsticks-rhyming(optional), comprehensibility and loyalty. The first one can add elegance for lyrics translation. The last two requires mediation of intentions among the source writer and the target listener in a particular translational action. The principles are then applied to the evaluation of lyrics translation of two English songs of Viva La Vida and Set Love Free. The conclusion is thus reached that these principles can be used to make lyrics translation.

Context Awareness and Word-rendering in the Teaching of Chinese-English Translation

In the teaching of Chinese-English（C-E） translation, the cultivation of students＇ awareness of context is very important. The Reflection of “Three Beauties” Principle in the English Translation of Song Lyric “Jiang Cheng Zi. Ji Meng” By Xu Yuanchong

Professor Xu Yuanchong‘s"three beauties"principle has become the guideline in the field of the classical Chinese poetry translation. But the"three beauties"are not easy to coexist in a translation work and very often one has to be sacrificed for the other. How the"three beauties"being realized and combined together in the translation has been discussed. It reveals that there is a perfect integration of the"three beauties"in Professor Xu's English translation of Song Lyric"Jiang Cheng Zi. Ji Meng".

On the Cultural Untranslatability in Chinese-English Literary Translation

The paper is intended to study the cultural untranslatability in Chinese-English literary translation and its compensation with a view to find some practical strategies in translation when untranslatabiltiy occurs. Based on Eugene A. Nida’s classification of language culture, the author analyzes causes of cultural untranslatability in terms of ecological culture, material culture, social culture, religious culture, and linguistic culture through specific examples. As the cultural untranslatability is conditioned, variable, and dynamic, some translation strategies are proposed for tranferring untranslatability to translatability.

A Tentative Study of English-Chinese Lyric Translation: Illustrated by the Example of Michael Jackson's Songs

Lyric, as a special form of poetry, its translatability has been a controversial focus among both translators and musicians. This thesis analyzes English-Chinese lyric translation by the illustrations of Michael Jackson's works based on the references of "equivalent theory", during which Nida's arguments about equivalence will be employed. The thesis indicates the important roles which"cultural context"and"personal background"play in the process of lyric translation. With the citing examples of Michael Jackson's works, this thesis demonstrates the significance of the match of the translated text and the music and the rhythm, and tries to give a better version of lyric translation. The purpose of this thesis is to seek the possibility of the equal performance effect of English-Chinese lyric translation.

Chinese-English translation of banners for conventions and exhibitions： A skopos perspective

As China＇s convention and exhibition industry strides forward to internationalization, Chinese-English translation of banners for conventions and exhibitions is more frequent than ever before. Based on Vermeer＇s skopos theory, the core theory of functionalist approaches, the paper analyzes authentic examples and highlights the techniques of translation for this type. With representative examples, the paper illustrates the necessity of adopting skopos theory in Chinese-English translation of banners for conventions and exhibitions.

A brief analysis of the classical poetry Chinese-English translation： From the perspective of ＂Beauty in three aspects＂

With the growing of mutual communication between different cultures, the translation of classical Chinese poetry becomes quite significant in the contemporary times. This paper first briefly introduces classical Chinese poetry, major classical Chinese poetry translation schools and their representatives, and professor XU Yuan-zhong＇s famous principle of ＂Beauty in three aspects＂. In order to help disseminate this part of Chinese culture through discussing how the reader of the translation may be inspired, moved and aesthetically entertained in the same way as one reads the original, this paper will analyze the classical poetry Chinese-English translation from the perspective of ＂Beauty in three aspects＂, namely, in three parts--beauty in meaning, beauty in sound and beauty in form. Thus, it serves the purpose to offer a relatively comprehensive view of the classical poetry Chinese-English translation.

Teaching Cultural Strategies for Undergraduate Chinese-English Translation in Chinese Context

Although in China, ordinary translation theories favor the foreignizing strategy in translating culture, and outside China, there are opposing strategies between the cultural studies school and deconstructionist school, translation teachers should be fully aware of their respective revelations and limitations to translation teaching. This paper holds that in undergraduate C-E （Chinese-English~ translation teaching, the linguistic strategy is assimilation rather than alienation, thus, idiomaticness and preciseness should be emphasized. In teaching cultural translation strategy, first, we should promote students＇ cultural competence, which includes culture perceptive competence, culture comparison competence, culture evaluation competence, and culture mediation competence. Second, we need differentiate cultural strategies to translate literary and practical materials. In translating practical materials, functionality determines adaptation or exoticization; in translating literary materials, when cultural factor is the topic of writing, exoticization is employed for the main except that part of politeness system in institutional culture, abstract concrete conversion and description affection model in spiritual culture are adapted. When cultural factor is the background of writing, it is the target text aestheticality and readership intertextuality that determine adaptation or exoticization.

Criticism Thinking on Original and Translated Texts

This paper analyzes the application of critical thinking in the original text and translation by listing the cases. Make people realize the importance of using critical thinking in translation process and the importance of critical thinking. The word critical is derived from the Greek word "kritikos", which expresses awareness, insight, and judgment. The critical thinking, as we know it in the modern sense, comes from the reflective thinking that Dewey once proposed: bold questioning, cautious assertion.
