以翻译适应选择论为理论框架,对20世纪30年代风靡美国的中国文化经典《生活的艺术》的译介展开研究。研究发现,大萧条期间,为“工业文明病”所困的美国民众从林语堂的《吾国与吾民》一书中发现了对中国文化的误解,并从中感悟到了生活的智慧。而林语堂也在赞助人的推动下,希望延续该书的成功从而达到“治病救人”的交际目的,为此他开始了《生活的艺术》的创作。林语堂通过使用汉语句式和未被广泛接受的音译词汇、中国古代文化介绍和中西文化对照、语录体引进这3种方式,实现了《生活的艺术》一书在语言维度、文化维度和交际维度的适应性选择转换,使其在语言、文化和文学手法上呈现出明显的杂合特征,以适应当时复杂的翻译环境。研究表明,针对翻译生态环境进行多维度转换,实现作品的适度杂合,有利于中国文化的译介与传播。

Context Awareness and Word-rendering in the Teaching of Chinese-English Translation

In the teaching of Chinese-English（C-E） translation, the cultivation of students＇ awareness of context is very important. As far as word-rendering in C-E translation is concerned, contextual analysis can help student solve such problems as the precise comprehension of the SL（source language） words, the translation of vague words and polysemous words, the conveyance of implicature and non-correspondence of word meaning.

On the Cultural Untranslatability in Chinese-English Literary Translation

The paper is intended to study the cultural untranslatability in Chinese-English literary translation and its compensation with a view to find some practical strategies in translation when untranslatabiltiy occurs. Based on Eugene A. Nida’s classification of language culture, the author analyzes causes of cultural untranslatability in terms of ecological culture, material culture, social culture, religious culture, and linguistic culture through specific examples. As the cultural untranslatability is conditioned, variable, and dynamic, some translation strategies are proposed for tranferring untranslatability to translatability.

Chinese-English translation of banners for conventions and exhibitions： A skopos perspective

As China＇s convention and exhibition industry strides forward to internationalization, Chinese-English translation of banners for conventions and exhibitions is more frequent than ever before. Based on Vermeer＇s skopos theory, the core theory of functionalist approaches, the paper analyzes authentic examples and highlights the techniques of translation for this type. With representative examples, the paper illustrates the necessity of adopting skopos theory in Chinese-English translation of banners for conventions and exhibitions.

A brief analysis of the classical poetry Chinese-English translation： From the perspective of ＂Beauty in three aspects＂

With the growing of mutual communication between different cultures, the translation of classical Chinese poetry becomes quite significant in the contemporary times. This paper first briefly introduces classical Chinese poetry, major classical Chinese poetry translation schools and their representatives, and professor XU Yuan-zhong＇s famous principle of ＂Beauty in three aspects＂. In order to help disseminate this part of Chinese culture through discussing how the reader of the translation may be inspired, moved and aesthetically entertained in the same way as one reads the original, this paper will analyze the classical poetry Chinese-English translation from the perspective of ＂Beauty in three aspects＂, namely, in three parts--beauty in meaning, beauty in sound and beauty in form. Thus, it serves the purpose to offer a relatively comprehensive view of the classical poetry Chinese-English translation.

Teaching Cultural Strategies for Undergraduate Chinese-English Translation in Chinese Context

Although in China, ordinary translation theories favor the foreignizing strategy in translating culture, and outside China, there are opposing strategies between the cultural studies school and deconstructionist school, translation teachers should be fully aware of their respective revelations and limitations to translation teaching. This paper holds that in undergraduate C-E （Chinese-English~ translation teaching, the linguistic strategy is assimilation rather than alienation, thus, idiomaticness and preciseness should be emphasized. In teaching cultural translation strategy, first, we should promote students＇ cultural competence, which includes culture perceptive competence, culture comparison competence, culture evaluation competence, and culture mediation competence. Second, we need differentiate cultural strategies to translate literary and practical materials. In translating practical materials, functionality determines adaptation or exoticization; in translating literary materials, when cultural factor is the topic of writing, exoticization is employed for the main except that part of politeness system in institutional culture, abstract concrete conversion and description affection model in spiritual culture are adapted. When cultural factor is the background of writing, it is the target text aestheticality and readership intertextuality that determine adaptation or exoticization.

Analysis of Chinglish in Chinese-English Translated lyrics

As English spreads across China, Chinglish appears and causes difficulties in international communication and does harm to the spreading of Chinese culture. This paper analyses six types of manifestation of the Chinglish in translated lyrics. And the author finds that although Chinglish could be a tool to produce an effect of amusement, it is still a misshapen and hybrid English and can be the inhibition of a successful international communication.

On Application of the “Sameness Relation” in Chinese-English Translation Practice

A method for improving the accuracy of automatic indexing of Chinese-English mixed documents

Purpose: The thrust of this paper is to present a method for improving the accuracy of automatic indexing of Chinese-English mixed documents.Design/methodology/approach: Based on the inherent characteristics of Chinese-English mixed texts and the cybernetics theory,we proposed an integrated control method for indexing documents. It consists of 'feed-forward control','in-progress control' and 'feed-back control',aiming at improving the accuracy of automatic indexing of Chinese-English mixed documents. An experiment was conducted to investigate the effect of our proposed method.Findings: This method distinguishes Chinese and English documents in grammatical structures and word formation rules. Through the implementation of this method in the three phases of automatic indexing for the Chinese-English mixed documents,the results were encouraging. The precision increased from 88.54% to 97.10% and recall improved from97.37% to 99.47%.Research limitations: The indexing method is relatively complicated and the whole indexing process requires substantial human intervention. Due to pattern matching based on a bruteforce(BF) approach,the indexing efficiency has been reduced to some extent.Practical implications: The research is of both theoretical significance and practical value in improving the accuracy of automatic indexing of multilingual documents(not confined to Chinese-English mixed documents). The proposed method will benefit not only the indexing of life science documents but also the indexing of documents in other subject areas.Originality/value: So far,few studies have been published about the method for increasing the accuracy of multilingual automatic indexing. This study will provide insights into the automatic indexing of multilingual documents,especially Chinese-English mixed documents.

An Empirical Study of Word Class Labeling of Total Reduplication Lex⁃ emes in New Century Chinese-English Dictionary ( 2nd edition)

the widely discussed study of word class categorization has a long history of more than 2000 years,which is known as the study of the“God Particles”in language.As a typical analytic language,Modern Chinese,due to its lack of morphological changes,is challenged by a thorny problem of word classes especially when it comes to the criteria for word class identification and the treat⁃ment of multiple class membership.As such,all the controversies eventually give rise to some contradiction and confusion in word class labeling in Modern Chinese and Chinese-English dictionaries.As an important grammatical means in Chinese and the focus of lexicology and rhetorics,total reduplication lexemes serve as an essential part of Chinese-English dictionaries with complex and diverse word classes.Guided by the Two-level Word Class Categorization Theory,this thesis focuses on the word class labeling of total reduplication lexemes in New Century Chinese-English Dictionary(2nd edition)backed by large-scale balanced Modern Chi⁃nese corpora.With an innovative theoretical perspective,this study not only contributes to the word class labeling of total reduplica⁃tion lexemes and even sheds light on the compilation of Chinese-English dictionaries,but also drives the study of Modern Chinese word classes in the long term.

针对植物工厂采用多层栽培架培育果蔬、人工工作难度较大及自动化水平不高的问题,开发了植物工厂栽培板自动搬运物流系统装置。该系统采用一种带吊环的栽培板,导轨和机械手安装位移传感器,通过PLC实时采集位移传感器发出的脉冲信息控制导轨和机械手进行坐标定位,完成叉板和放板动作。对搬运机构进行了定位误差试验,通过F检验证明速度对试验误差有显著影响,同时根据试验结果预测了搬运的最佳速度区间范围。
