AIM: To determine whether listening to music decreases the requirement for dosages of sedative drugs, patients' anxiety, pain and dissatisfaction feelings during colonoscopy and makes the procedure more comfortable and acceptable. METHODS: Patients undergoing elective colonoscopy between October 2005 and February 2006 were randomized into either listening to music (Group 1, n = 30) or not listening to music (Group 2, n = 30). Anxiolytic and analgesic drugs (intravenous midazolam and meperidine) were given according to the patients' demand. Administered medications were monitored. We determined their levels of anxiety using the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory Test form. Patients' satisfaction, pain, and willingness to undergo a repeated procedure were self-assessed using a visual analog scale. RESULTS: The mean dose of sedative and analgesic drugs used in group 1 (midazolam: 2.1 ± 1.4, meperidine: 18.1 ± 11.7) was smaller than group 2 (midazolam: 2.4 ± 1.0, meperidine: 20.6 ± 11.5), but without a significant difference (P 〉 0.05). The mean anxiety level in group 1 was lower than group 2 (36.7 ± 2.2 vs 251.0 ± 1.9, P 〈 0.001). The mean satisfaction score was higher in group 1 compared to group 2 (87.8 ± 3.1 vs 58.1 ± 3.4, P 〈 0.001). The mean pain score in group i was lower than group 2 (74.1 ± 4.7 vs 39.0 ± 3.9, P 〈 0.001). CONCLUSION: Listening to music during colonoscopy helps reduce the dose of sedative medications, as well as patients' anxiety, pain, dissatisfaction during the procedure. Therefore, we believe that listening to music can play an adjunctive role to sedation in colonoscopy. It is a simple, inexpensive way to improve patients' comfort during the procedure. 展开更多

This paper presents a Descriptive Translation Study(DTS)analysis of the Chinese translation of the French musical adaptation of Romeo and Juliet, titled Roméo et Juliette:de la Haineàl’Amour.Romeo and Juliet,a timeless play by Shakespeare, has captivated audiences since its premiere in 1597 and has been adapted into various forms, including stage productions, films, musicals, and operas. The focus of this study is to analyze the Chinese translation of the French musical adaptation from a DTS perspective.DTS is an approach that aims to understand the translation process and its reception in the target culture.By examining language choices, cultural references, and adaptation strategies, this study seeks to shed light on how the Chinese translation of the French musical functions within the target culture and influences the reception and interpretation of the source text. This analysis is expected to gain insights into the challenges and strategies employed in translating a musical adaptation of Romeo and Juliet into Chinese. The findings of this study will contribute to the field of translation studies and provide a deeper understanding of the complexities involved in the translation of musical works. 展开更多

The goal of this research is to investigate the ideas that functioned in shaping thought of Radif in Iranian Dastgahi music. In this regard by preparing the reasons, we pay attention to the function of education in codification of Radif. Although Iranian traditional music has long history but its codification to seven Dastgah-s and five Avaz-es in the format of Radif is attributed to Qajar Dynasty in the 19th century. In this transformation, Mirza Abdollah, Tar-Player of the Nasser al-Din Shah Period, has played an important role in final codification of Radif. Due to the truth that the past masters scrimped in music education, and Mirza Abdollah had encountered with problems to learn music, hence he has mostly cared about music education in adulthood, and it is probable that one of the reasons in collecting Gusheh-s (approximately a small piece of the Iranian Dastgahi music) and organizing them into coherent sets was making simplicity for the students to learn. Furthermore, masters who seriously and continuously have taught after Mirza Abdollah, left a narration (version) of Radif. On the other hand, definite patterns in placement of Gusheh-s and phrases of the Radif have been organized in a manner that makes educational function for it. 展开更多

The sound stimulus has a signifi cant impact on marine animals. However, many studies have focused on the negative impacts of sound on marine vertebrates. The positive impacts of sound on marine animals, especially on marine invertebrates, were rarely studied. In the present study,we evaluated the eff ects of music on the survival and development of an economically important marine invertebrate, swimming crab Portunus trituberculatus.Three pieces of classical music and a control group,i.e.,Eine Kleine Nachtmusik by Mozart(EK),Bach-Violin Concerto No.1(BV),Anonymous Romanza by Anonymous(AR),and environmental sound(EN)were used. The sound pressure received were 163-dB root mean square(RMS)re 1μPa for EK,166-dB RMS re 1μPa for BV,165-dB RMS re 1μPa for AR,44-dB RMS re 1μPa for EN,respectively. The larvae were subject to 3-h classical music transmission every day during the entire larval development period. The result showed that BV and AR signifi cantly elevated the cumulative survival rate of the larva from 3.42%±1.77%(EN)to 10.65%±1.69%(BV)and 7.12%±1.37%(AR)respectively(P<0.05).Though music did not aff ect the cumulative development time of larvae from ZoeaⅠto ZoeaⅣ,it signifi cantly increased the molting rate of megalopa from 24.00%±11.78%(EN)to 44.00%±13.06%(AR)and 46.67%±10.50%(BV)(P<0.05).Musical exposure during critical growth intervals may contribute to the survival and development of larval crustaceans. From an application point of view, music intervention is much economically feasible. The observed music eff ects imply that music could further enhance growth, welfare, and production. 展开更多

Many circumstances such as acute stress could promote salivary nitrate secretion and nitrite formation. However, whether other conditions can also be used as regulators of salivary nitrate/nitrite has not yet been explored. The present study was designed to determine the influence of exposure to different music on the salivary flow rate and nitrate secretion and nitrite formation. Twenty-four undergraduate students(12 females and 12 males) were exposed to silence, rock music, classical music or white noise respectively on four consecutive mornings. The unstimulated salivary flow rate and stimulated salivary flow rate were measured. Salivary ionic(Na+, Ca2+Cl-,and PO3-4) content and nitrate/nitrite levels were detected. The unstimulated salivary flow rate was significantly increased after classical music exposure compared to that after silence. Salivary nitrite levels were significantly higher upon classical music and white noise stimulation than those under silence in females. However, males were more sensitive only to white noise with regard to the nitrite increase. In conclusion, this study demonstrated that classical music stimulation promotes salivary nitrite formation and an increase in saliva volume was observed. These observations may play an important role in regulating oral function. 展开更多
