Use of English Reading Strategies by Science-oriented College Students in Relation to Gender Difference

The purpose of this study was to investigate the use of English reading strategies by the science-oriented college students in relation to their genders. The participants were 401 first year science-oriented college students. A reading questionnaire was used to collect the data. The results showed that the male and female students existed significantly difference in reading strategy use, with female students employed reading strategies significantly more frequently than did the male students.

An Analysis of the Research Trends in Blended Learning Methods in Teaching College English Reading Courses

Curtis J.Bonk defined blended learning as a combination of face-to-face and computer-assisted online learning instruction since it was gradually formed after the emergence of the Internet[1,2].Breen pointed out that blended learning is a learning method that combines online and offline learning activities and resources[3].The blended learning approach is popular in school and e-learning.Moreover,it is one of the important trends in promoting higher education reform in the coming years.Therefore,it has attracted the attention of international researchers[4].In this paper,42 articles in Scopus(established by international institutions)and 30 articles in CNKI(found by Chinese mainland institutions)on the query of“college English reading blended learning”in the field of education were analyzed.Furthermore,CiteSpace software was used to analyze the research hotspots and trends with the keyword clusters and citations that occurred in the last two decades(1999 to 2022)to foresee future research prospects.

Study on the Promotion Strategy of College Students’ Reading and Writing Ability Under the Micro Network Environment

Network media has become more and more involved in our daily life. It has become a part of modern life that cannot be stopped or rejected. Then, how to correctly face the changes in the Internet era is placed in front of everyone. From the perspective of media literacy education for college students, writing ability and reading ability provide a feasible way.

College students have more difficulty in Intensive Reading course resulting from their language proficiency.Therefore,reading strategies should be focused on in intensive reading to help college students to lower the threshold of the course aswell as facilitate stu dents'performance in intensive reading.

A Study on Metacognitive Strategies Used in Listening Comprehension and Reading Comprehension of College English

This paper is a study of influence of metacognitive strategies on reading and listening through 196 non-English majors' metacognitive strategies used in CET-4. The major findings are that metacognitive strategies have a great infulence on English reading and listening achievement and the effects of metacognitive strategies on English achievement are greater. In addition, each individual metacognitive strategy plays different roles in the process of reading and listening.

Reading plays a very big role in the college English course in China.Teaching reading in a college English classroom aims at helping students develop the skills they need to read more effectively.A way is suggested to teach reading in a college English class.Through this way,students become active readers who predict before reading,scan for specific information,confirm or reject their predictions while reading,answering comprehension questions in their own words,etc.Their reading skills are sharpened in such a reading class.

Investigating the Use of Strategic Reading Activities in College English Class: A Case Study

This paper,by adopting a qualitative research method,investigated the use of strategic reading activities by two female teachers in College English classes.Results showed that their commonly-used strategic reading activities in college English classes reflected three types of reading comprehension strategies including use of prior knowledge,use of text elements with a high information value,and use of structure-marking elements in the text.Pedagogical implications were also discussed.
