Ultrasonography and computed tomography examination of the abdomen revealed a target sign in the ascending colon, which was compatible with the diagnosis of cecal intussusception. The intussusception was spontaneously resolved at that time, but it relapsed 6 mo later. The patient underwent a successful colonoscopic disinvagination; there was no evidence of neoplastic or inflammatory lesions in the colon and terminal ileum. The patient underwent laparoscopic surgery for recurring cecal intussusception. During laparoscopy, we observed an unfixed cecum on the posterior peritoneum(i.e. a mobile cecum). Thus, we performed laparoscopic appendectomy and cecopexy with a lateral peritoneal flap using a barbed wound suture device. The patient's post-operative course was uneventful, and he continued to do well without recurrence at 10 mo after surgery. Laparoscopic cecopexy using a barbed wound suture device is a simple and reliable procedure that can be the treatment of choice for recurrent cecal intussusception associated with a mobile cecum.展开更多

The ideal treatment in these cases remains elusive as the endoscopist and the surgeon have to make a choice case by case, depending on many factors such as how promptly the rupture is identified, the condition of the patient, the degree of contamination and the evidence of peritoneal irritation. Surgical interventions both laparotomic and laparoscopic, and other medical non-operative solutions are described in the literature. Only three cases have been reported in the literature in which the endoscopic apposition of endoclips was used to repair a colonic perforation during colonoscopy. Ours is the first case that the perforation itself was caused by the improper functioning of a therapeutic device.展开更多

Uterus perforation is rare and would be fatal. A case of Cu-7 IUCD invading into the sigmoid colon through uterine perforation caused by a pelvic blunt trauma was presented. Our case showed that uterus perforation by an IUCD could induce utero-sigmoid fistula which is likely to be missed. Imaging is required when the patients with IUCD present abdominal pain, particularly with a history of trauma.展开更多

A pill incorporating the technology has been proven to be successful as a weight loss therapy. It enables patients to sustain a diet longer, due to an increase in the level of satiety, resulting in a smaller amount of food intake. Utilization of the technology has recently found new prospects in another organ of the GI tract, the colon. Pseudobezoar technology can be utilized as an enhanced method for colon cancer screening and also as an alternative carrier for bacterial therapy.展开更多
