Series of experiments were performed to simulate the invasion of formation sand into and the plugging process of gravel-pack at different viscosities and flowing rates of fluid.Two types of formation sands with the medium size of 0.10 mm and 0.16 mm and the quartz sand and ceramsite of 0.6-1.2 mm were used in the experiments.A new viscosity-velocity index(the product of fluid viscosity and velocity)was put forward to characterize the influencing mechanism and law of physical property and flow condition of formation fluid on gravel-pack plugging,and a new method to optimize the production rate of wells controlling sand production with gravel-packing was proposed.The results show that the permeability of formation sand invaded zone and final permeability of plugged gravel-pack have negative correlations with viscosity and flow velocity of fluid,the higher the flow velocity and viscosity,the lower the permeability of formation sand invaded zone and final permeability of plugged gravel-pack will be.The flow velocity and viscosity of fluid are key factors affecting plugging degree of the gravel zone.The viscosity-velocity index(v-v index)can reflect the flow characteristics of fluid very well and make it easier to analyze the plugging mechanism of gravel zone.For different combinations of fluid viscosity and flow velocity,if the v-v index is the same or close,their impact on the final gravel permeability would be the same or close.With the increase of the v-v index,the permeability of plugged gravel zone decreases first,then the reduction rate slows down till the permeability stabilizes.By optimizing production and increasing production step by step,the optimal working scheme for sand-control well can reduce the damage to gravel-pack zone permeability caused by sand-carrying fluid effectively,and increase well productivity and extend the sand control life. 展开更多

The water quality grades of phosphate(PO4-P) and dissolved inorganic nitrogen(DIN) are integrated by spatial partitioning to fit the global and local semi-variograms of these nutrients. Leave-one-out cross validation is used to determine the statistical inference method. To minimize absolute average errors and error mean squares,stratified Kriging(SK) interpolation is applied to DIN and ordinary Kriging(OK) interpolation is applied to PO4-P.Ten percent of the sites is adjusted by considering their impact on the change in deviations in DIN and PO4-P interpolation and the resultant effect on areas with different water quality grades. Thus, seven redundant historical sites are removed. Seven historical sites are distributed in areas with water quality poorer than Grade IV at the north and south branches of the Changjiang(Yangtze River) Estuary and at the coastal region north of the Hangzhou Bay. Numerous sites are installed in these regions. The contents of various elements in the waters are not remarkably changed, and the waters are mixed well. Seven sites that have been optimized and removed are set to water with quality Grades III and IV. Optimization and adjustment of unrestricted areas show that the optimized and adjusted sites are mainly distributed in regions where the water quality grade undergoes transition.Therefore, key sites for adjustment and optimization are located at the boundaries of areas with different water quality grades and seawater. 展开更多

The aim of this paper is to present graphically the behaviour of a simulation model to the varying parameters and to establish the suitability of this representation as a valid tool for the analysis of the same parameters. In this paper, we define parameter combinatorial diagram as the joint graphical representation of all box plots related to the adjustment between real and simulated data, by setting and/or changing the parameters of the simulation model. To do this, we start with a box plot representing the values of an objective adjustment function, achieving these results when varying all the parameters of the simulation model, Then we draw the box plot when setting all the parameters of the model, for example, using the median or average. Later, we get all the box plots when carrying out simulations combining fixed or variable values of the model parameters. Finally, all box plots obtained are represented neatly in a single graph. It is intended that the new parameter combinatorial diagram is used to examine and analyze simulation models useful in practice. This paper presents combinatorial diagrams of different examples of application as in the case of hydrologic models of one, two, three, and five parameters. 展开更多

Using current Embedded Discrete Fracture Models(EDFM) to predict the productivity of fractured wells has some drawbacks, such as not supporting corner grid, low precision in the near wellbore zone, and disregarding the heterogeneity of conductivity brought by non-uniform sand concentration. An EDFM is developed based on the corner grid, which enables high efficient calculation of the transmissibility between the embedded fractures and matrix grids, and calculation of the permeability of each polygon in the embedded fractures by the lattice data of the artificial fracture aperture. On this basis, a coupling method of local grid refinement(LGR) and embedded discrete fracture model is designed, which is verified by comparing the calculation results with the Discrete Fracture Network(DFN) method and fitting the actual production data of the first hydraulically fractured well in Iraq. By using this method and orthogonal experimental design, the optimization of the parameters of the first multi-stage fractured horizontal well in the same block is completed. The results show the proposed method has theoretical and practical significance for improving the adaptability of EDFM and the accuracy of productivity prediction of fractured wells, and enables the coupling of fracture modeling and numerical productivity simulation at reservoir scale. 展开更多

The thin-walled tube flexure(TWTF) hinges have important potential application value in the deployment mechanisms of satellite and solar array, but the optimal design of the TWTF hinges haven't been completely solved, which restricts their applications. An optimal design method for the qusai-static folding and deploying of TWTF hinges with double slots is presented based on the response surface theory. Firstly, the full factorial method is employed to design of the experiments. Then, the finite element models of the TWTF hinges with double slots are constructed to simulate the qusai-static folding and deploying non-linear analysis. What's more, the mathematical model of the TWTF flexure hinge quasi-static folding and deploying properties are derived by the response surface method. Considering of small mass and high stability, the peak moment of quasi-static folding and deploying as well as the lightless are set as the objectives to get the optimal performances. The relative errors of the objectives between the optimal design results and the FE analysis results are less than 7%, which demonstrates the precision of the surrogate models. Lastly, the parameter study shows that both the slots length and the slots width both have significant effects to the peak moment of quasi-static folding and deploying of TWTF hinges with double slots. However, the maximum Mises stress of quasi-static folding is more sensitive to the slots length than the slots width. The proposed research can be applied to optimize other thin-walled flexure hinges under quasi-static folding and deploying, which is of great importance to design of flexure hinges with high stability and low stress. 展开更多

In this work, a dynamic rate-based method is developed on g PROMS platform to get easy access to the solutions of reactive extraction with phase splitting. Based on rigorous criteria, dynamic analysis from initial state to final equilibrium(e.g., evolution of phase composition, mass transfer rate and reaction rate) and optimal design of operating conditions(e.g., extractant dosage and feed molar ratio) are achieved. To illustrate the method, the esterification of n-hexyl acetate is taken as an example. The approach proves to be reliable in the analysis and optimization of the exemplified system, which provides instructive reference for further process design and simulation of reactive extraction. 展开更多

One developing commercial vehicle was simulated on crashworthiness by the non-linear finite element method. The bumper crashworthiness at the speed of 8 km/h was analyzed and valuated. On the other hand, the deformation of the auto-body, the movement of the steering wheel and the dynamic responses of the occupant at the initial velocity of 50 km/h were studied. The results appear that the design of the vehicle could be improved on structure and material. Finally, the frontal longitudinal beam, the main energy-absorbing part of the auto-body, was optimized on structure. Simulation results also show that applying new material, such as high strength steel, and new manufacture techniques, such as tailor-welded blanks could improve the crashworthiness of the vehicle greatly. 展开更多

Then according to the distribution of entrance velocity, it was supposed that reducing the blade area near the tip could decrease the linearity error of a sensor. Therefore, the influence of different blade shape parameters on the performance of the sensor was investigated by combining computational fluid dynamics(CFD)simulation with experimental test. The experimental results showed that, for the liquid turbine flow sensor with a diameter of 10 mm, the linearity error was smallest, and the performance of sensor was optimal when blade shape parameter equaled 0.25. 展开更多

Process optimization in equation-oriented(EO)modeling environments favors the gradient-based optimization algorithms by their abilities to provide accurate Jacobian matrices via automatic or symbolic differentiation.However,computational inefficiencies including that in initial-point-finding for Newton type methods have significantly limited its application.Recently,progress has been made in using a pseudo-transient(PT)modeling method to address these difficulties,providing a fresh way forward in EO-based optimization.Nevertheless,research in this area remains open,and challenges need to be addressed.Therefore,understanding the state-of-the-art research on the PT method,its principle,and the strategies in composing effective methodologies using the PT modeling method is necessary for further developing EO-based methods for process optimization.For this purpose,the basic concepts for the PT modeling and the optimization framework based on the PT model are reviewed in this paper.Several typical applications,e.g.,complex distillation processes,cryogenic processes,and optimizations under uncertainty,are presented as well.Finally,we identify several main challenges and give prospects for the development of the PT based optimization methods. 展开更多

The choice of the UHV lines depends on surface electric field of the bundle conductors.Based on existing calculation methods,the optimized charge simulation method is used to calculate the conductors' surface electrical field of±800 kV UHVDC transmission lines in this paper.During calculation,the offset distance is set as the variance of the objective function,the position and the quantity of the simulation charges are optimized with the gold section method,and the surface electrical field is calculated when the charge is in the optimal position.The result shows that the distribution of the surface electrical field and its maximal value can be calculated accurately with this method,although less number of simulation charges is used in this proposed method and the calculation is simple. 展开更多

Besides. the basic parameters of the generator, the geometry dimensions of the stator and rotor, type and sizes of the slots, coils and windings parameters and the way of windings connection are determined. The finite element model of electromagnetic systems of generator stator and rotor was constructed by Ansoft Maxwe112D3D 12.1, and the transient electromagnetic characteristics of generator was analyzed and simulated. The 3D geometric models of turbo-generator were established respectively by using PROE software, and the dynamic finite element model of generator structure was built by ANSYS workbench 11.0. In addition, the dynamic characteristics of stator iron core, stator frame were calculated respectively. The simulation calculation has shown that the structural parameters, material parameters, and the electromagnetic characteristics parameters for large turbogenerator that are put forward by this paper should be optimal. and the design plan and method suggested by this paper should be feasible. The paper provides an effective solution for the development of larger turbo-generator than 1000 MW. 展开更多

The filter can track the target's position and velocity, but not the acceleration. To extend its capability, a new fourth-order target tracker called α-β-γ-δ filter is proposed. The main objective of this study was to find the optimal set of filter parameters that leads to minimum position tracking errors. The tracking errors between using the α-β-γ-δ filter and the α-β-γ-δ filter are compared. As a result, the new filter exhibits significant improvement in position tracking accuracy over the existing third-order filter, but at the expense of computational time in search of the optimal filter. To reduce the computational time, a simulation-based optimization technique via Taguchi method is introduced. 展开更多

Optimization of multi-revolution low-thrust transfer based on modified direct method

A modified direct optimization method is proposed to solve the optimal multi-revolution transfer with low-thrust between Earth-orbits. First, through parameterizing the control steering angles by costate variables, the search space of free parameters has been decreased. Then, in order to obtain the global optimal solution effectively and robustly, the simulated annealing and penalty function strategies were used to handle the constraints, and a GA/SQP hybrid optimization algorithm was utilized to solve the parameter optimization problem, in which, a feasible suboptimal solution obtained by GA was submitted as an initial parameter set to SQP for refinement. Comparing to the classical direct method, this novel method has fewer free parameters, needs not initial guesses, and has higher computation precision. An optimal-fuel transfer problem from LEO to GEO was taken as an example to validate the proposed approach. The results of simulation indicate that our approach is available to solve the problem of optimal muhi-revolution transfer between Earth-orbits. 展开更多

The Coriolis force method is a recently developed and highly regarded direct measurement technique that enables high-precision measurement of bulk materials.The operational parameters and variations thereof directly influence the measurement accuracy of the equipment.In this study,a measurement correction coefficient is introduced to improve the calculation method for mass flow rate of the materials.The DEM is employed to simulate the motion of particle groups within the Coriolis force scale under different parameters,and the effects of various structural and operational parameters on the measurement results are compared.The research findings indicate that a lower rotational speed leads to more stable instantaneous measurement results,although the measurement error is relatively large.When the rotational speed exceeds 300 rpm,the measurement error remains within 15%.For materials with a radius of 1–2 mm,the variation range of precision error is approximately 0.4%.Among the structural parameters,the radius of the measurement wheel has the most significant impact on the measurement results,wherein a larger measurement wheel radius corresponds to a smaller measurement error.The horizontal angle of the blades follows as the next influential parameter,with a clockwise rotation and a horizontal angle of 30°resulting in a measurement error below 2%. 展开更多

Laser vision correction is a rapidly growing field for correcting nearsightedness, farsightedness as well as astigmatism with dominating laser-assisted in situ keratomileusis (LASIK) procedures. While the technique works well for correcting spherocylindrical aberrations, it does not fully correct high order aberrations (HOAs), in particular spherical aberration (SA), due to unexpected induction of HOAs post-surgery. Corneal epithelial remodeling was proposed as one source to account for such HOA induction process. This work proposes a dual-scale linear filtering kernel to model such a process. Several retrospective clinical data sets were used as training data sets to construct the model, with a downhill simplex algorithm to optimize the two free parameters of the kernel. The performance of the optimized kernel was testedon new clinical data sets that were not previously used for the optimization. 展开更多

Simulation Research on the Effect of Spreading Process Parameters on the Quality of Lunar Regolith Powder Bed in Additive Manufacturing

Lunar surface additive manufacturing with lunar regolith is a key step in in-situ resource utilization.The powder spreading process is the key process,which has a major impact on the quality of the powder bed and the precision of molded parts.In this study,the discrete element method(DEM)was adopted to simulate the powder spreading process with a roller.The three powder bed quality indicators,including the molding layer offset,voidage fraction,and surface roughness,were established.Besides,the influence of the three process parameters,which are roller’s translational speed,rotational speed,and powder spreading layer thickness on the powder bed quality indicators was also analyzed.The results show that with the reduction of the powder spreading layer thickness and the increase of the rotational speed,the offset increased significantly;when the translational speed increased,the offset first increased and then decreased,which resulted in an extreme value;with the increase of the layer thickness and the decrease of the translational speed,the values for voidage fraction and surface roughness significantly reduced.The powder bed quality indicators were adopted as the optimization objective,and the multi-objective parameter optimization was carried out.The predicted optimal powder spreading parameters and powder bed quality indicators were then obtained.Moreover,the optimal values were then verified.This study can provide informative guidance for in-situ manufacturing at the moon in future deep space exploration missions. 展开更多
