The small scale study employs a more ethnographic methodology, namely, recording spontaneous and natural spoken conversation from authentic workplace interaction with the permission of the head chef. Cell-phone is used to record discourse under most circumstances since it is hard to be noticed. Then discourse analyze provides data making it possible to explore some of the diverse functions of humour as a form of politeness and to explain how gender identity is dynamically conducted, maintained, challenged and subverted in different humorous discourse from the CofP perspective. Widely cited features of feminine and masculine interactional styles have been applied for the compare and contrast in discussion. Even though some trends are suggested at the end of the discussion, we could not forget politeness, humour and gender are complicated issues requiring more in-depth context-based ethnographic studies.展开更多

This involves designing a low-cost glove-based sensing system, collecting large and diverse datasets, preprocessing the data, and using efficient machine learning models. Furthermore, the glove is integrated with a user-friendly mobile application called “Life-sign” for this system. The main goal of this work is to minimize the processing time of machine learning classifiers while maintaining higher accuracy performance. This is achieved by using effective preprocessing algorithms to handle noisy and inconsistent data. Testing and iterating approaches have been applied to various classifiers to refine and improve their accuracy in the recognition process. Additionally, the Extra Trees (ET) classifier has been identified as the best algorithm, with results proving successful gesture prediction at an average accuracy of about 99.54%. A smart optimization feature has been implemented to control the size of data transferred via Bluetooth, allowing for fast recognition of consecutive gestures. Real-time performance has been measured through extensive experimental testing on various consecutive gestures, specifically referring to Arabic Sign Language (ArSL). The results have demonstrated that the system guarantees consecutive gesture recognition with a lower delay of 50 milliseconds.展开更多

Drawing upon two case studies in the UK, the article explores the dialectical relationships between different modes of urban governance on one hand and the socio-environmental transformations fulfilled in each case study on the other hand. The article concludes that although urban regeneration policies are always constrained by the neoliberal established framework of power relations, policy outputs and outcomes could be very different from one place to another, shaping uneven socio-environmental constructions. Finally, we make some recommendations in order to stimulate the production of more sustainable communities in the future.展开更多

ABMs seek to capture the overall macro-effects of different micro-decisions in a virtual world;they model individual entities within a complex system and the rules that govern them to capture the overall effects of their interactions. Results showed that falling PV costs coupled with generally increasing grid electricity costs would lead to increased uptake of PV systems in such communities. On the other hand, high lending rates in most developing nations would stifle use of credit facilities in purchases of PV systems and thus diminishing their uptakes. Results also showed that introduction of favourable government policies in forms of subsidies would strongly stimulate PV installations in such communities. Social acceptance is important for diffusion of any new technology into a given market and more so with solar systems;results show that neighbourhood influence plays major roles in PV diffusions with many households installing PV systems if their neighbours within a given sensing radius do the same. Results also showed that requiring a certain percentage of neighbours to have installed PV before a household considered doing the same could have negative effects on PV installations as decisions to install PV are influenced by many independent and dependent factors and not by neighbourhood threshold alone.展开更多
