Framework for COVID-19 Segmentation and Classification Based on Deep Learning of Computed Tomography Lung Images

Corona Virus Disease 2019(COVID-19) has affected millions of people worldwide and caused more than6.3 million deaths(World Health Organization, June 2022). Increased attempts have been made to develop deep learning methods to diagnose COVID-19 based on computed tomography(CT) lung images. It is a challenge to reproduce and obtain the CT lung data, because it is not publicly available. This paper introduces a new generalized framework to segment and classify CT images and determine whether a patient is tested positive or negative for COVID-19 based on lung CT images. In this work, many different strategies are explored for the classification task.ResNet50 and VGG16 models are applied to classify CT lung images into COVID-19 positive or negative. Also,VGG16 and ReNet50 combined with U-Net, which is one of the most used architectures in deep learning for image segmentation, are employed to segment CT lung images before the classifying process to increase system performance. Moreover, the image size dependent normalization technique(ISDNT) and Wiener filter are utilized as the preprocessing techniques to enhance images and noise suppression. Additionally, transfer learning and data augmentation techniques are performed to solve the problem of COVID-19 CT lung images deficiency, therefore the over-fitting of deep models can be avoided. The proposed frameworks, which comprised of end-to-end, VGG16,ResNet50, and U-Net with VGG16 or ResNet50, are applied on the dataset that is sourced from COVID-19 lung CT images in Kaggle. The classification results show that using the preprocessed CT lung images as the input for U-Net hybrid with ResNet50 achieves the best performance. The proposed classification model achieves the 98.98%accuracy(ACC), 98.87% area under the ROC curve(AUC), 98.89% sensitivity(Se), 97.99 % precision(Pr), 97.88%F-score, and 1.8974-seconds computational time. 展开更多

Objective The purpose of this study was to compare computed tomography(CT) and magnetic resonance imaging(MRI) for the detection of mandibular condylar osteochondroma.Methods Preoperative CT and MRI of 33 patients with unilateral condylar osteochondroma were reviewed. The morphology, location, continuity with the parent bone, cartilage cap, perichondrium of tumors, and changes in soft and hard tissues adjacent to the lesions were investigated by two reviewers. Data were analyzed using Mc Nemar test. A P value < 0.05 was considered significant.Results Among the 33 condylar osteochondromas, 11 were of the diffuse type, 10 were of the sessile type, and 12 were of the pedunculated type. Continuity with the cortex and marrow of the host condyle was observed on both CT and MRI. Both modalities had identical detection rates of surface reconstruction of the temporal bone joint, condylar dislocation, and pseudarthrosis formation. However, MRI showed significantly higher detection rates of the cartilage cap and perichondrium than CT(P < 0.05). Furthermore, MRI showed ipsilateral and contralateral temporo-mandibular joint(TMJ) disc displacement in 4 cases and 6 cases, respectively, and ipsilateral and contralateral TMJ effusion in 20 cases and 14 cases, respectively.Conclusion CT can intuitively display the morphology and spatial location of condylar osteochondromas through three-dimensional reconstruction. MRI may be superior to CT in the detection of cartilage cap, perichondrium of the condylar osteochondroma, and changes in the TMJ and adjacent soft tissues. 展开更多

Stability and accuracy of the imaging results are still unmet practical demands for ultrasonic computed tomography(CT)of concrete material.To address these issues,a CT technique based on simulated annealing genetic algorithm(SAGA)is presented in this work.Firstly,a natural weight matrix with clear physical meaning is introduced in the inverse algorithm and then a quadric broadening objective function is formed according to the propagation characteristics of ultrasound in concrete.After that,the simulated annealing(SA)searching is added to speed up the inverse process and to improve the convergence and stability of the algorithm.Finally,the optimal inverse imaging results have been achieved by variable ectopic adaptive genetic algorithm.The numerical simulation experiments have shown that the usage of the correct priori information and the excellent characteristic of SAGA in searching the global minimum value of the function have produced accurate and effective results with stable numerical values.The imaging resolution is improved and the imagining results reflecting the inner defections of the tested objects are more reliable and accurate. 展开更多

Micro computed tomography (Micro-CT) was applied to obtain three-dimensional images of the microstructure of cement paste (water-to-cement mass ratio of 0.5) at different ages. By using the Amira software, component phases of the cement paste such as pores, hydration products, and unhydrated clinker particles were segmented from each other based on their 3D image grey levels; their relative contents were also calculated with the software, and the data are 61.2%, 0% and 38.8% at the beginning of hydration and 11.8%, 78.5% and 9.7% at 28 d age, respectively. The hydration degree of cement paste at different ages was compared with the experimental data acquired by loss on ignition (LOI) tests. The results show that the calculated and measured data reasonably agree with each other, which indicates that micro-CT is a useful and reliable approach to characterize the micro structure evolution of hydrating cement paste. 展开更多

目的:基于成年男性仿真胸部体模(PH-N1)CT扫描,探究不同管电压结合人工智能(AI)重建(CI)算法对胸部体模CT扫描图像质量和辐射剂量的影响。方法:采用512层超高端CT分为4种管电压对体模进行扫描,分别为70 kV、80 kV、100 kV和120 kV,对不... 目的:基于成年男性仿真胸部体模(PH-N1)CT扫描,探究不同管电压结合人工智能(AI)重建(CI)算法对胸部体模CT扫描图像质量和辐射剂量的影响。方法:采用512层超高端CT分为4种管电压对体模进行扫描,分别为70 kV、80 kV、100 kV和120 kV,对不同管电压的CT扫描图像采用10%、30%、50%、70%和90%CI算法重建1 mm薄层图像,比较4组扫描的容积剂量指数(CTDIvol)和剂量-长度乘积(DLP)。测量图像主动脉、腹壁脂肪及竖棘肌的CT值、标准偏差(SD)值,由两名5年以上工作经验的高年资诊断医师独立双盲的对图像质量进行5分制评估,并行Kappa一致性检验。采用单因素方差分析比较图像目标组织的CT值、SD值差异。采用Friedman秩和检验比较组间主观图像质量的差异。结果:4种不同管电压的CTDIvol和DLP比较,差异有统计学意义(F=1855.617、3996.118,P<0.05)。在70 kV管电压下,10%、30%、50%、70%和90%CI算法重建的主动脉、腹壁脂肪及竖棘肌的CT值比较,差异均无统计学意义(P>0.05),而SD值差异均有统计学意义(F=32.267、53.327、14.873,P<0.05)。在90%权重的CI算法重建4种不同管电压下,主动脉、腹壁脂肪及竖棘肌的CT值随着管电压的降低,CT值逐渐降低,差异有统计学意义(F=139.899、2563.93、219.231,P<0.05)。两名诊断医师对各组图像的主观评分一致性较好(Kappa=0.712~0.869)。结论:CI算法在70 kV管电压下90%权重的CI算法重建图像与80 kV、90 kV、120 kV图像相比,可以明显降低辐射剂量,同时图像具有良好信噪比。 展开更多

面向急性缺血性脑卒中的CT生成MRI算法

急性缺血性脑卒中病灶在计算机断层扫描(CT)上表现不明显,但在核磁共振成像(MRI)上可以清晰显示。然而,当患者体内有金属植入物等特殊情况则无法进行MRI检测,使得患者的治疗受到延误。通过CT生成MRI可在急性缺血性脑卒中的诊断和治疗中... 急性缺血性脑卒中病灶在计算机断层扫描(CT)上表现不明显,但在核磁共振成像(MRI)上可以清晰显示。然而,当患者体内有金属植入物等特殊情况则无法进行MRI检测,使得患者的治疗受到延误。通过CT生成MRI可在急性缺血性脑卒中的诊断和治疗中起到至关重要的作用,但现有的医学影像跨模态生成方法从CT得到的MRI缺乏病灶信息且边界模糊。为了解决上述问题,提出一种基于影像组学和扩散生成对抗网络的急性缺血性脑卒中CT生成MRI算法,通过影像组学在CT上进行病灶特征增强,突出生成MRI的病灶信息,引入梯度损失为生成图像与真实图像增加边缘感知约束,提升生成MRI的质量。在ISLES2018挑战赛数据集上的实验结果表明,该算法生成的MRI在整体上的峰值信噪比为23.051 dB,结构相似度为0.798,皮尔逊相关系数为0.969,并且病灶区域的互信息为2.075,与现有的生成模型相比,该算法的各项指标均达到最优。此外,经3名经验丰富的放射科医生在生成的MRI上确定病灶并进行阳性/阴性分类,其中生成的MRI中无错误病灶,且分类准确率可达到86.61%,可作为一种辅助工具协助医生进行诊断。 展开更多

目的:探究前置呼吸模式在320排CT肺动脉双低成像。方法:前瞻性选取2021年7月至2022年9月柳州市人民医院收治的怀疑肺动脉栓塞(PE)行CT肺动脉造影(CTPA)检查的100例患者,采用随机数表法将其分为观察组和对照组,每组50例。对照组患者采取... 目的:探究前置呼吸模式在320排CT肺动脉双低成像。方法:前瞻性选取2021年7月至2022年9月柳州市人民医院收治的怀疑肺动脉栓塞(PE)行CT肺动脉造影(CTPA)检查的100例患者,采用随机数表法将其分为观察组和对照组,每组50例。对照组患者采取常规呼吸模式(达到阈值后启动呼吸口令,6 s后触发扫描),观察组采取前置呼吸模式(1或2 s后启动呼吸口令,达到阈值后触发扫描)。两组患者均采用320排CT行双低成像技术扫描,对比延迟时间、辐射剂量、主观与客观图像质量评分等指标差异。结果:观察组容积CT剂量指数(CTDIvol)、剂量长度乘积(DLP)、有效剂量(ED)及延迟时间均明显低于对照组,差异有统计学意义(t=76.230、30.225、12.282、7.088,P<0.05)。两组图像质量主观评分比较,观察组患者5分25例,4分23例,3分2例;对照组5分21例,4分26例,3分3例,图像质量主观评分的平均分组间比较差异无统计学意义(P>0.05)。观察组图像信噪比(SNR)、对比噪声比(CNR)明显低于对照组,噪声水平(SD)明显高于对照组,差异有统计学意义(t=25.441、23.886、11.426,P<0.05)。观察组右肺动脉干、右肺动脉分支、左肺动脉干以及左肺动脉分支CT值均较对照组高,差异均有统计学意义(t=2.256、2.225、2.042、2.277,P<0.05)。结论:前置呼吸模式能够有效提高CTPA图像质量,降低辐射剂量及对比剂用量,临床应用效果显著,值得借鉴。 展开更多

相较于CT,急性缺血性脑卒中病灶在MRI上可清晰显示。鉴于患者中存在一些不适用于MRI检查的情况,如体内金属或幽闭恐惧症等,容易耽误患者病情。通过结合影像组学和扩散生成对抗网络(DiffusionGAN),该文提出了基于影像组学的边缘感知扩散G... 相较于CT,急性缺血性脑卒中病灶在MRI上可清晰显示。鉴于患者中存在一些不适用于MRI检查的情况,如体内金属或幽闭恐惧症等,容易耽误患者病情。通过结合影像组学和扩散生成对抗网络(DiffusionGAN),该文提出了基于影像组学的边缘感知扩散GAN,实现了急性缺血性脑卒中患者的CT生成MRI。该算法弥补了现有CT生成MRI中病灶信息不足和边缘模糊的问题。具体而言,通过在CT上应用影像组学定位病灶,借助特征图辅助MRI生成,并提出边缘感知扩散GAN以提升生成MRI的边缘感知。实验证实,生成的MRI在峰值信噪比(PSNR)方面达到69.607,结构相似性(SSIM)为0.821,皮尔逊相关系数(PCC)为0.974,显著优于现有模型。医生评估显示生成的MRI不存在错误病灶,阳性/阴性分类准确度高达87.91%,表明这一创新性算法为解决在MRI不适用的特殊情况下的脑卒中诊断问题提供了新的途径。 展开更多

利用跨模态轻量级YOLOv5模型的PET/CT肺部肿瘤检测

多模态医学图像可在同一病灶处提供更多语义信息,针对跨模态语义相关性未充分考虑和模型复杂度过高的问题,该文提出基于跨模态轻量级YOLOv5(CL-YOLOv5)的肺部肿瘤检测模型。首先,提出学习正电子发射型断层显像(PET)、计算机断层扫描(CT)... 多模态医学图像可在同一病灶处提供更多语义信息,针对跨模态语义相关性未充分考虑和模型复杂度过高的问题,该文提出基于跨模态轻量级YOLOv5(CL-YOLOv5)的肺部肿瘤检测模型。首先,提出学习正电子发射型断层显像(PET)、计算机断层扫描(CT)和PET/CT不同模态语义信息的3分支网络;然后,设计跨模态交互式增强块充分学习多模态语义相关性,余弦重加权计算Transformer高效学习全局特征关系,交互式增强网络提取病灶的能力;最后,提出双分支轻量块,激活函数簇(ACON)瓶颈结构降低参数同时增加网络深度和鲁棒性,另一分支为密集连接的递进重参卷积,特征传递达到最大化,递进空间交互高效地学习多模态特征。在肺部肿瘤PET/CT多模态数据集中,该文模型获得94.76%mAP最优性能和3238 s最高效率,以及0.81 M参数量,较YOLOv5s和EfficientDet-d0降低7.7倍和5.3倍,多模态对比实验中总体上优于现有的先进方法,消融实验和热力图可视化进一步验证。 展开更多

基于全局注意力多任务网络方法的CT图像细小骨折检测研究

目的:通过全局注意力多任务网络提升CT图像细小骨折检测的感知,通过多任务实现实例级别细小骨折目标的检测,快速、准确地从大量CT图像中识别并定位骨折,以辅助临床及时开展治疗。方法:引入分组非局部(non-local)网络方法,计算CT图像连... 目的:通过全局注意力多任务网络提升CT图像细小骨折检测的感知,通过多任务实现实例级别细小骨折目标的检测,快速、准确地从大量CT图像中识别并定位骨折,以辅助临床及时开展治疗。方法:引入分组非局部(non-local)网络方法,计算CT图像连续切片任何位置和通道之间的远程依赖关系,将多目标检测模型3D RetinaNet单级检测器与医学图像语义分割(3D U-Net)架构相融合,实现端到端的多任务3D卷积网络,以多任务联合的方式实现对细小骨折的实例级别检测。选择医学图像计算与计算机辅助干预(MICCAI)2020挑战赛提供的肋骨骨折公开数据集(Rib Frac Dataset)600例CT扫描图像,通过5∶1的比例划分为训练集(500例)和验证集(100例),测试多任务3D卷积网络的精度性能。结果:多任务3D卷积网络方法的检测精度性能优于单任务网络FracNet、3D RetinaNet及3D Retina U-Net,其平均精度与3D RetinaNet和3D Retina U-Net网络相比分别高出7.8%和11.4%,且优于3D Faster R-CNN、3D Mask R-CNN两种单任务网络检测方法,平均精度分别高出约6.7%和3.1%。结论:全局注意力多任务网络融合不同模块,对于细小骨折检测性能均有提升,引入分组非局部(Non-local)网络方法能够进一步提升对细小骨折目标的检测精度性能。 展开更多

Three-dimensional finite element simulation and reconstruction of jointed rock models using CT scanning and photogrammetry

The geometry of joints has a significant influence on the mechanical properties of rocks.To simplify the curved joint shapes in rocks,the joint shape is usually treated as straight lines or planes in most laboratory experiments and numerical simulations.In this study,the computerized tomography (CT) scanning and photogrammetry were employed to obtain the internal and surface joint structures of a limestone sample,respectively.To describe the joint geometry,the edge detection algorithms and a three-dimensional (3D) matrix mapping method were applied to reconstruct CT-based and photogrammetry-based jointed rock models.For comparison tests,the numerical uniaxial compression tests were conducted on an intact rock sample and a sample with a joint simplified to a plane using the parallel computing method.The results indicate that the mechanical characteristics and failure process of jointed rocks are significantly affected by the geometry of joints.The presence of joints reduces the uniaxial compressive strength (UCS),elastic modulus,and released acoustic emission (AE) energy of rocks by 37%–67%,21%–24%,and 52%–90%,respectively.Compared to the simplified joint sample,the proposed photogrammetry-based numerical model makes the most of the limited geometry information of joints.The UCS,accumulative released AE energy,and elastic modulus of the photogrammetry-based sample were found to be very close to those of the CT-based sample.The UCS value of the simplified joint sample (i.e.38.5 MPa) is much lower than that of the CT-based sample (i.e.72.3 MPa).Additionally,the accumulative released AE energy observed in the simplified joint sample is 3.899 times lower than that observed in the CT-based sample.CT scanning provides a reliable means to visualize the joints in rocks,which can be used to verify the reliability of photogrammetry techniques.The application of the photogrammetry-based sample enables detailed analysis for estimating the mechanical properties of jointed rocks. 展开更多

位姿参数对光耦CT系统影响的仿真分析

计算机断层成像技术(computedtomography,CT)因具有无损检测特点被广泛应用,光耦CT系统作为CT系统的新分支,具有分辨力高、测量精度高等优点,但是,其成像质量及测量能力受到系统位姿参数影响。针对光耦CT系统,提出一种利用仿真研究位姿... 计算机断层成像技术(computedtomography,CT)因具有无损检测特点被广泛应用,光耦CT系统作为CT系统的新分支,具有分辨力高、测量精度高等优点,但是,其成像质量及测量能力受到系统位姿参数影响。针对光耦CT系统,提出一种利用仿真研究位姿参数对其成像质量及测量能力影响的方法。该方法以X射线吸收成像原理为依据,利用Matlab构建仿真光耦CT系统,在不同的位姿参数偏差下,对设定的双球棒模体进行成像并重建,通过分析成像质量及测量的球心距,探讨不同位姿参数对系统成像或测量的影响。结果表明:在光耦CT系统中,需对微焦点射线源沿X、Y、Z轴平移偏差,旋转台端跳、径跳偏差,光耦探测器沿X、Y、Z轴平移偏差以及绕X轴的旋转偏差共9个参数予以校准。 展开更多

Purpose: To explore the significance of dual-source computed tomography (DECT) virtual monoenergetic reconstructions technology in improving image quality for portal vein system of pancreatic cancer patients. Materials and methods: 47 patients with clinically suspected pancreatic cancer (all confirmed by pathology) were collected. Routine plain scan was performed with Siemens Force dual-source dual-energy CT followed by 3 scans respectively carried out in arterial phase, portal phase and delayed phase. Traditional virtual monoenergetic reconstructions (Mono_E) and new generation of virtual monoenergetic reconstructions (Mono+) were respectively performed on portal vein images to obtain virtual single energy images including Mono_ E70 keV, Mono_E 55 keV and Mono+ 70 keV and Mono+ 55 keV. The signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) and noise of portal vein, normal pancreatic tissues and pancreatic lesions of 100 kV, Mono_E and Mono+ images were compared. In addition, the contrast noise ratio of portal vein and lesions as well as pancreatic tissues and lesions (CNR PV, CNRtumor) were also compared. At the same time, two imaging physicians with rich clinical experiences read the films and scored the images of each group by using the 5-point scoring method. Results: Mono+ 55 keV images including SNRpv, SNRpanc, SNRtumor, Noise, CNRpv, CNRtumor were statistically different from 100 KV images and Mono_E images (P < 0.05). As for the subjective score, Mono+ 55 keV image score also had the highest score, which had statistical significance (P < 0.05). The results showed that Mono+ 55 keV images had the best quality. Conclusion: The new generation of virtual Mono+ post-treatment can reduce image noise. Low energy Mono+ images can improve the contrast between pancreatic cancer lesions and portal of pancreatic cancer patients. 展开更多

From the point of view of design requirements, influence of the width of the output image of an imaging subsystem in a tomographic imaging spectrometer, namely width of the slit, the grating and the size of the CCD pixel are analyzed. For the tomographic imaging spectrometry, if the amplification ratio of the imaging subsystem is not high enough to make the whole object to be compressed within the slit, then either the slit width should be increased or the slit width kept unchanged but scanned to receive information of the object. While the width-increase method reduces the spectral resolving power and the SNR; the scanning method reduces the SNR. Analysis of the two cases and computer simulation results are given. 展开更多

This paper tries to address the problem of binary CT image reconstruction in non-destructive detection with an algorithm based on compressed sensing(CS) and Otsu's method, which could reconstruct binary CT image of test object from incomplete detection data. According to binary CT image characteristics, we employ Splitbregman method based on L1/2regularization to solve piecewise constant region reconstruction. To improve the reconstructed image quality from incomplete detection data, we utilize a priori knowledge and Otsu's method as the optimization constraint. In our study, we make numerical simulation to investigate our proposed method,and compare reconstructed results from different reconstruction methods. Finally, the experimental results demonstrate that the proposed method could effectively reduce noise and suppress artifacts, and reconstruct high-quality binary image from incomplete detection data. 展开更多

Three-dimensional medical image visualization becomes an essential part for medical field,including computer aided diagnosis,surgery planning and simulation,artificial limb surgery,radiotherapy planning,and teaching etc.In this paper,marching cubes algorithm is adopted to reconstruct the 3-D images for the CT image sequence in DICOM format under theVC++6.0 and the visual package VTK platform.The relatively simple interactive operations such as rotation and transfer can be realized on the platform.Moreover,the normal vector and interior point are calculated to form the virtual clipping plane,which is then used to incise the 3-D object.Information of the virtual slice can be obtained,in the mean while the virtual slice images are displayed on the screen.The technique can realize the real time interaction extraction of virtual slice on 3-D CT image.The cuboids structured can be zoomed,moved and circumrotated by operating mouse to incise the 3-D reconstruction object.Real time interaction can be realized by clipping the reconstruction object.The coordinates can be acquired by the mouse clicking in the 3D space,to realize the point mouse pick-up as well angle and distance interactive measurement.We can get quantitative information about 3-D images through measurement. 展开更多

目的:探索病毒性肺炎患者胸部CT影像学分期与中医舌象特征的相关性。方法:选取2020年1月至2022年2月北京中医药大学东方医院和黄石中医院收治的病毒性肺炎患者的舌象和胸部CT影像117例作为研究对象,采用单因素分析舌质、舌体、舌苔在不... 目的:探索病毒性肺炎患者胸部CT影像学分期与中医舌象特征的相关性。方法:选取2020年1月至2022年2月北京中医药大学东方医院和黄石中医院收治的病毒性肺炎患者的舌象和胸部CT影像117例作为研究对象,采用单因素分析舌质、舌体、舌苔在不同CT分期的分布情况,对有意义的自变量进行多因素Logistic回归分析探讨胸部CT分期与舌象特征的相关性。结果:117例病毒性肺炎患者CT所示早期17例(14.53%)、进展期85例(72.65%)、消散期15例(12.82%)。患者舌质淡色舌者20例(17.09%)、红舌者29例(24.79%)、紫舌者68例(58.12%);舌苔少无苔者31例(26.5%)、薄苔者19例(16.24%)、腻苔者67例(57.26%);舌体瘦小者12例(10.3%)、正常者49例(41.9%)、肥大者56例(47.9%)。单因素分析结果显示舌质、舌体、舌苔与胸部CT影像不同分期间的差异有统计学意义(P<0.05),纳入舌质、舌体、舌苔等因素进行多因素logistic回归分析。多因素分析结果显示胸部CT早期比进展期红舌、少无苔、薄苔多,瘦小舌少;消散期比进展期红舌、少无苔、瘦小舌多。结论:病毒性肺炎患者的舌质在胸部CT早期多为淡舌,在进展期多为紫舌和消散期多为红舌;舌苔在胸部CT早期多为薄苔,在进展期多为腻苔,消散期多为少无苔;舌体在胸部CT早期多为正常、肥大(正常偏多),在进展期多为正常、肥大(肥大偏多),消散期多为正常、瘦小(瘦小偏多)。 展开更多
