This paper discusses the findings of an experimental study on the effect of various curing procedures on the compressive strength of concrete produced by partially substituting portland cement with Palm Kernel Shell Ash(PKSA).Palm kernel shell ash was utilized in a 1:2:4 mix ratio as a partial substitute for ordinary Portland cement(OPC)at percentage levels of 0%,10%,and 15%.River sand with particles passing a 4.75 mm BS sieve was used,as well as crushed aggregate with a maximum size of 20 mm,and palm kernel shell ash with particles passing a 212μm sieve. The compressive strength of the test cubes(150 mm × 150 mm × 150 mm)was determined after 7,28,and 56 days of curing. The results demonstrated that test cubes containing Palm kernel shell ash developed strength over a longer curing period than ordinary Portland cement concrete samples and that the strength changes depending on the amount of PKSA in the cube samples. The findings showed that at 28 days, test cubes with 5%,10%,and 15%PKSA content in all curing procedures utilized obtained a greater compressive strength.Curing by immersion produced the highest compressive strength in all replacement level while the concrete cured by sprinkling and spraying gives a lower strength in all replacement level. 展开更多

Composition, morphology, and structure of hydration products in hardened pastes of three kinds of blended cement(cement-silica fume, cement-quartz powder and cement-silica fume-quartz powder) hydrated under different curing regimes(standard curing, 90 ℃ steam curing, 200 ℃ and 250 ℃ autoclave curing) were investigated by X-ray diffraction and field emission scanning electron microscope equipped with EDAX system. Results showed that the main hydration products in three kinds of hardened pastes under standard curing condition are all C-S-H gels, CH, and AFt. Under 90 ℃ steam curing condition, the main hydration products of cement-silica fume and cement-silica fume-quartz powder are C-S-H gels, whereas those of cement-quartz powder are C-S-H and CH. Under 200 or 250 ℃ autoclave curing condition, no obvious crystallized CH phase is found in hardened pastes of three kinds of blended cement, and C-S-H gels are transformed into one or more crystalline phases such as tobermorite, jennite, and xonotlite. The chemical composition and morphology of these crystalline phases depend on the composition of mixture and autoclave temperature. 展开更多

The usability of waste steel grits and limestone sand in the construction of concrete pavement was investigated.Four different types of pavement concretes were produced, including coarse limestone concrete not containing waste steel grit, coarse limestone concrete containing waste steel grit, limestone sand concrete not containing waste steel grit, and limestone sand concrete containing waste steel grit.In this study,water/binder ratio in concrete production was taken as 0.44.In the production of limestone sand concrete containing waste steel grit, limestone sand with a grain diameter of 0.1-1.0 mm was used as aggregate.Waste steel grits with a grain diameter of 0.2-0.7 mm were added to the concrete mixture.Standard water curing and combined curing were applied to concrete samples. After standard water curing and combined curing, compression and bending tests of the same types of cube and beam concrete samples were carried out.As a result of the study, the maximum compressive and bending strengths were found to be 50.21 MPa and 5.07 MPa for limestone sand concrete containing waste steel grit. The study results show that waste steel grits increase the compressive and bending strength of concrete pavement. 展开更多
