These specificities must be considered to guide the dissemination of agricultural options with a view to sustainable development. The territorial scale of municipalities is not sufficient for this necessary contextualization;the scale of the “village terroir” seems to be a better option. This is the hypothesis we put forward in the framework of the Global Collaboration for Resilient Food Systems program (CRFS), i.e. local context is spatially defined by village terroir. The study is based on data collected through participatory mapping and surveys in “village terroirs” in three regions of Niger (Maradi, Dosso and Tillabéri). Then the links between farm managers and their cultivated land, as well as the spatio-temporal dynamics of local context are analyzed. This study provides evidence of the existence and functional usefulness of the village terroir for farmers, their land management and their activities. It demonstrates the usefulness of contextualizing agricultural options at this scale. Their analysis elucidates the links between “terroirs village” and the specific functioning of the agrosocio-ecosystems acting on each of them, thus laying the systemic and geographical foundations for a model of the spatio- temporal dynamics of “village terroirs”. This initial work has opened up new perspectives in modeling and sustainable development.展开更多

Heavy metal is a crucial group of pollutants that is toxic to the environment even at low concentrations due to its bioaccumulation and biomagnification capabilities in living organisms. The detrimental effects of heavy metals on living organisms are due to their bioaccumulation in the aquatic ecosystem. Cadmium may result in adverse health effects due to its high toxicity. The study is conducted to determine the cadmium exposure effects on the morphometric indices of Anabas testudineus which are the Scaling Coefficient (SC) and Condition Factor (K) of such species. Anabas testudineus is exposed to four different cadmium treatment groups namely the control group, cadmium treatment group of 0.005 mg/L, 0.010 mg/L, and 0.015 mg/L for 16 weeks. The findings of the study have reported inconsistent trends in the values of SC and a decrease in the value of K with increasing cadmium concentration. The trend for the average SC has shown an overall decrease in value while the pattern of the K value is inconsistent in each treatment group with exposure time. Collectively, no significant differences for SC and K of A. testudineus in different treatment groups as well as comparison between treatment groups with time exposure.展开更多

We analyze the 3D deformations of a multilayered, linear elastic, anisotropic rectangular plate subjected to arbitrary boundary conditions on one edge and simply supported on other edge. The rectangular laminate consists of anisotropic and homogeneous laminae of arbitrary thicknesses. This study presents the elastic analysis of laminated composite plates subjected to sinusoidal mechanical loading under arbitrary boundary conditions. Least square finite element solutions for displacements and stresses are investigated using a mathematical model, called a state-space model, which allows us to simultaneously solve for these field variables in the composite structure’s domain and ensure that continuity conditions are satisfied at layer interfaces. The governing equations are derived from this model using a numerical technique called the least-squares finite element method (LSFEM). These LSFEMs seek to minimize the squares of the governing equations and the associated side conditions residuals over the computational domain. The model is comprised of layerwise variables such as displacements, out-of-plane stresses, and in- plane strains, treated as independent variables. Numerical results are presented to demonstrate the response of the laminated composite plates under various arbitrary boundary conditions using LSFEM and compared with the 3D elasticity solution available in the literature.展开更多

文摘Grouting is a widely used approach to reinforce broken surrounding rock mass during the construction of underground tunnels in fault fracture zones, and its reinforcement effectiveness is highly affected by geostress. In this study,a numerical manifold method(NMM)based simulator has been developed to examine the impact of geostress conditions on grouting reinforcement during tunnel excavation. To develop this simulator,a detection technique for identifying slurry migration channels and an improved fluid-solid coupling(FeS)framework, which considers the influence of fracture properties and geostress states,is developed and incorporated into a zero-thickness cohesive element(ZE)based NMM(Co-NMM)for simulating tunnel excavation.Additionally,to simulate coagulation of injected slurry,a bonding repair algorithm is further proposed based on the ZE model. To verify the accuracy of the proposed simulator,a series of simulations about slurry migration in single fractures and fracture networks are numerically reproduced, and the results align well with analytical and laboratory test results.Furthermore, these numerical results show that neglecting the influence of geostress condition can lead to a serious over-estimation of slurry migration range and reinforcement effectiveness. After validations,a series of simulations about tunnel grouting reinforcement and tunnel excavation in fault fracture zones with varying fracture densities under different geostress conditions are conducted.Based on these simula-tions,the influence of geostress conditions and the optimization of grouting schemes are discussed.

文摘Background:Combined knee valgus and tibial internal rotation(VL+IR)moments have been shown to stress the anterior cruciate ligament(ACL)in several in vitro cadaveric studies. To utilize this knowledge for non-contact ACL injury prevention in sports,it is necessary to elucidate how the ground reaction force(GRF)acting point(center of pressure(CoP))in the stance foot produces combined knee VL+IR moments in risky maneuvers, such as cuttings. However, the effects of the GRF acting point on the development of the combined knee VL+IR moment in cutting are still unknown. Methods:We first established the deterministic mechanical condition that the CoP position relative to the tibial rotational axis differentiates the GRF vector’s directional probability for developing the combined knee VL+IR moment, and theoretically predicted that when the CoP is posterior to the tibial rotational axis, the GRF vector is more likely to produce the combined knee VL+IR moment than when the CoP is anterior to the tibial rotational axis. Then,we tested a stochastic aspect of our theory in a lab-controlled in vivo experiment.Fourteen females performed 60˚cutting under forefoot/rearfoot strike conditions(10 trials each). The positions of lower limb markers and GRF data were measured, and the knee moment due to GRF vector was calculated. The trials were divided into anterior-and posterior-CoP groups depending on the CoP position relative to the tibial rotational axis at each 10 ms interval from 0 to 100 ms after foot strike, and the occurrence rate of the combined knee VL+IR moment was compared between trial groups. Results:The posterior-CoP group showed significantly higher occurrence rates of the combined knee VL+IR moment(maximum of 82.8%)at every time point than those of the anterior-CoP trials,as theoretically predicted by the deterministic mechanical condition. Conclusion:The rearfoot strikes inducing the posterior CoP should be avoided to reduce the risk of non-contact ACL injury associated with the combined knee VL+IR stress.

文摘The deep cement mixing(DCM)is used to improve the capacity and reduce the settlement of the soft ground by forming cemented clay columns. The investigation on the mechanical behaviour of the DCM samples is limited to either laboratory-prepared samples or in-situ samples under unconfined compression. In this study,a series of drained and undrained triaxial shearing tests was performed on the in-situ cored DCM samples with high cement content to assess their mechanical behaviours. It is found that the drainage condition affects significantly the stiffness, peak and residual strengths of the DCM samples, which is mainly due to the state of excess pore water pressure at different strain levels,i.e.being positive before the peak deviatoric stress and negative after the peak deviatoric stress,in the undrained tests. The slope of the failure envelope changes obviously with the confining pressures, being steeper at lower stress levels and flatter at higher stress levels. The strength parameters, effective cohesion and friction angle obtained from lower stress levels(c′0 andφ′0)are 400 kPa and 58°,respectively,which are deemed to be true for design in most DCM applications where the in-situ stress levels are normally at lower values of 50-200 kPa.Additionally, the computed tomography(CT)scanning system was adopted to visualize the internal structures of DCM samples. It is found that the clay pockets existing inside the DCM samples due to uneven mixing affect markedly their stress-strain behaviour, which is one of the main reasons for the high variability of the DCM samples.

文摘The success of teachers in professional environments has a desirable influence on their mental condition.Simply said, teachers’professional success plays a crucial role in improving their mental health.Due to the invaluable role of professional success in teachers’mental health, personal and professional variables helping teachers succeed in their profession need to be uncovered. While the role of teachers’personal qualities has been well researched, the function of professional variables has remained unknown. To address the existing gap,the current investigation measured the role of two professional variables, namely job satisfaction and loving pedagogy,in Chinese EFL teachers’professional success. To do this, three validated scales were provided to 1591 Chinese EFL teachers.Participants’answers to the questionnaires were analyzed using the Spearman correlation test and structural equation modeling. The data analysis demonstrated a strong, positive link between the variables. Moreover, loving pedagogy was found to be the positive, strong predictor of Chinese EFL teachers’job satisfaction and professional success. The findings of the current inquiry may help educational administrators enhance their instructors’professional success, which in turn promotes their mental and psychological conditions at work.

文摘This paper provides a study on the stability and time-step constraints of solving the linearized Korteweg-de Vries(KdV)equation, using implicit-explicit(IMEX)Runge-Kutta(RK)time integration methods combined with either finite difference(FD)or local discontinuous Galerkin(DG)spatial discretization. We analyze the stability of the fully discrete scheme,on a uniform mesh with periodic boundary conditions, using the Fourier method. For the linearized KdV equation, the IMEX schemes are stable under the standard Courant-Friedrichs-Lewy(CFL)conditionτ≤λh.Here,λis the CFL number,τis the time-step size, and h is the spatial mesh size.We study several IMEX schemes and characterize their CFL number as a function ofθ=d/h^(2)with d being the dispersion coefficient, which leads to several interesting observations. We also investigate the asymptotic behaviors of the CFL number for sufficiently refined meshes and derive the necessary conditions for the asymptotic stability of the IMEX-RK methods. Some numerical experiments are provided in the paper to illustrate the performance of IMEX methods under different time-step constraints.
文摘Spatio-temporal variability and dynamics in Sahelian agro-pastoral zones make each local situation a special case. This initial work has opened up new perspectives in modeling and sustainable development.
文摘Anthropogenic activities have greatly affected water resources on a global scale where the world is experiencing water quality and resources issues. Collectively, no significant differences for SC and K of A. testudineus in different treatment groups as well as comparison between treatment groups with time exposure.
文摘In response to the recommendation by the American Assembly of Collegiate Schools of Business(AACSB,2002),which urged business schools to embark on interdisciplinary programs to facilitate boundary-spanning teaching and learning, many colleges have conducted one form of curriculum integration or the other. Many of these team-taught course integrations, however, concentrate on core business courses without reaching out to related courses in other disciplines. Moreover, due to some factors, the informational contents of management disclosures in annual reports and audit unqualified opinions may not align with the future viability of an enterprise.Using a“going concern concept”,this paper demonstrates how the addition of economics in business school curriculum integration could produce well-rounded business graduates.Economics concepts could unambiguously support the tests that cast doubts on firms’ability to continue operations.

文摘Laminated composites are widely used in many engineering industries such as aircraft, spacecraft, boat hulls, racing car bodies, and storage tanks. Numerical results are presented to demonstrate the response of the laminated composite plates under various arbitrary boundary conditions using LSFEM and compared with the 3D elasticity solution available in the literature.
