An Analysis of Human Rights Factors in Confucian Tradition

Although there is no concept of Human Rights or Rights in the Confucian tradition,Western culture has a different understanding of people's due status and interests.This understanding includes the emphasis on and respect for human beings,and the factors that are compatible with human rights theory and can promote its development.The Confucian concept of humans emphasizes every individual as an individual in the community,obligations,and consideration of others.Its main contents are as follows:benevolence as the core;for individuals in the community,the ideal personality of a gentleman,namely,benevolence,independence and self-improvement;in the aspect of vertical interpersonal relationship,the advocation of people-oriented and good governance(e.g.,nurturing the people,educating the poor and helping the weak);in the aspect of horizontal interpersonal relations,the advocation of people as compatriots;and the respect of heaven and earth and the love for all things in relation of human and nature.These contents are of great significance to the construction of human rights in China and the world.

As early as the 18th century,Confucian liberalism of considering others in one s own place was integrated into the provisions of freedom of the Declaration of the Rights of Man and of the Citizen.In 1948,the Confucian idea of benevolence and other liberalism had an important influence on the drafting and content of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.The fulcrum of Confucian liberalism is self-discipline based on benevolence.The code of conduct created by Confucianism of"What you do not want done to yourself,do not do to others"has the social effect of safeguarding people’s negative freedom;the code of conduct of"while establishing himself and pursuing success,also works to establish others and enable them to succeed as well"has the social effect of safeguarding people s positive freedom.Confucian liberalism is social-oriented,which adheres to the unity of everyone’s freedom with the freedom of others,and the idea that individual freedom lies in the overall freedom of the social community.It is based on the conscience(benevolence)of the way of considering others in one’s own place and the practical path from the obligation to rights and freedoms are prominent features of traditional Chinese culture.It is consistent with the Universal Declaration of Human Rights’provision that everyone has duties to the community,and is similar to Marx’s philosophy that"the free development of every human being is the condition of the free development of all human beings",and is a unique system of liberal discourse that is different from Western liberalism.

UbD Framework in Teaching Confucian Filial Piety and Its Relevance in Modern Society

This study explores the lasting relevance of Confucian filial piety in Chinese culture that promotes individual self-cultivation, family harmony, and social stability. The Understanding by Design (UbD) framework is proposed as an effective approach for teaching Confucius’ wisdom and the reinforcement of the cognitive, affective and psychomotor learning outcomes. This approach emphasizes “backward design” which prioritizes meaningful understanding over memorization. Integrating filial piety into the UbD framework enhances students’ understanding of its philosophical foundations and modern significance, while also strengthening their intercultural communication skills. The study concludes that UbD approach develops language skills and cultural sensitivity, encouraging insights into the dynamic nature of cultural values. The meaningful outcomes through integrating the approach into filial piety curriculum design can support students’ development of self-awareness, empathy, and ethical maturity, which foster values essential for ethical leadership and community-oriented responsibilities.

The influence of Confucian and Taoist culture on prescription principles

Confucianism and Taoism,as the main body of traditional Chinese culture,has a great influence on the structure and the application of the theory of traditional Chinese medicine(TCM).This paper elucidates the influences of Confucian and Taoist culture on the theories and formulating rules of prescription in TCM,such as the principles of"Wu Zang Wu Wei Bu Xie",prescription laws of"Jun Chen Zuo Shi",principle of"Yong Yao Fa Xiang",the principle of"Liu Qi Sheng Fu"etc.from the view of Zhong He,Chong Li and Xiang Thought in Confucianism,and Qi Ontology,thought of Dao Fa Zi Ran and Following Time in Taoism.Qi Ontology belongs to the ontology and hylogenesis,Xiang Thought belongs to epistemology;Zhong He is the aim state of drug using ultimately;Chong Li,Following Time and Dao Fa Zi Ran,they are all the necessary laws for the right use of drugs.It embodies that TCM have its own unique theoretical system and rigorous laws in it,and lays the foundation for the subsequent researches on the theory and rules of prescriptions.

The influence of the study of Confucianism and Taoism on the connotation of Shen in Nei Jing

This article analyzes the connotation of Shen in Confucianism and Taoism and Shen in Nei Jing by using the method of literature review,and it raises:the two are closely related.First of all,on the basis of the meaning of"god"before the pre-Qin period,the study of Confucianism and Taoism enriches the connotation of Shen,it extracts many implications,such as"magic","unpredictable","mental spirits","Xin Shen","intelligence","laws"etc.,endowing Shen with philosophy meanings.Secondly,Nei Jing introduces Shen with philosophy meanings into the field of Chinese medicine to explain phenomena related to life,at the same time,it confirms the reality of Shen and constructs a complete Shen theory system.

儒家生命伦理融入老年护理学课程思政的实践效果

目的:探讨儒家生命伦理融入老年护理学课程思政的实践效果。方法:采取整群抽样法,以2018级312名(对照组)和2019级266名(试验组)本科护生为研究对象,对照组采用常规教学模式,试验组开展融入儒家生命伦理的老年护理学课程思政教学,课程结束后调查试验组护生对课程思政的内容和效果的感受,分析两组护生关怀能力、服务老年人意愿和考试成绩。结果:试验组266名护生中96.2%认为我国传统文化对医学生有可借鉴的智慧和思想,83.1%认为教学设计参与性和启发性较好,92.5%对课程评价总体满意。与老人共同生活的时间、家庭关系、对老龄化问题的关注程度会影响护生服务老年人意愿(P<0.05)。试验组护生关怀能力、服务老年人意愿、考试成绩均高于对照组(P<0.05)。结论:将儒家生命伦理融入老年护理学课程思政的教学设计有助于提升护生关怀能力和服务老年人意愿,促进其道德品质提升,更好地满足社会对老年护理人才的需求。

The Confucian Merchant Tradition in the Late Qing and the Early Republic and Its Contemporary Significance

In the late Qing, as the social status of merchants rose, the Ming and Qing phenomenon of combining business with learning became increasingly visible and its ranks expanded. Common characteristics were ＂talking of business but still inclining towards Confucianism,＂ and the lack of a dividing line between ＂business＂ and ＂Confucianism.＂ Among them, Zhang Jian and Jing Yuanshan were the best examples. These late Qing Confucian merchants shared a similar business ethic and formed a new tradition： helping bring Confucianism into business while holding fast to Confucian character ideals; gaining profits through righteousness and seeking shared benefits for all under heaven; cultivating virtuous behavior and conducting business ethically; enthusiastically promoting the public good and dedicating themselves to giving back to society; and establishing schools and educating the talented, pledging themselves to develop education. The late Qing and early Republican tradition of Confucian merchants has an important significance for the contemporary rebuilding of an ethical commercial culture. The question of how we can draw on its best points to construct a commercial morality and spirit of enterprise for this new era urgently needs to be addressed.
