Appropriateness, endoscopic findings and contributive yield of pediatric gastrointestinal endoscopy

AIM:To determine the predictability of the North American Society for Pediatric Gastroenterology,Hepatology and Nutrition(NASPGHAN)and American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy(ASGE)guideline with regard to appropriate endoscopic practice in children,positive endoscopic findings and contributive yield in clinical practice.METHODS:This was a descriptive,retrospective analysis,conducted at the Department of Paediatrics,University Malaya Medical Centre,Malaysia.All children who had esophagogastroduodenoscopy(EGD)and colonoscopy from January 2008 to June 2011 were included.An endoscopy was considered appropriate when its indication complied with the NASPGHAN and ASGE guideline.All endoscopic findings were classified as either positive(presence of any endoscopic or histologic abnormality)or negative(no or minor abnormality,normal histology);effecting a positive contributive(a change in therapeutic decisions or prognostic consequences)or non-contributive yield(no therapeutic or prognostic consequences).RESULTS:Overall,76%of the 345 procedures(231EGD alone,26 colonoscopy alone,44 combined EGD and colonoscopy)performed in 301 children(median age 7.0 years,range 3 months to 18 years)had a positive endoscopic finding.Based on the NASPGHAN and ASGE guideline,99.7%of the procedures performed were considered as appropriate.The only inappropriate procedure(0.3%)was in a child who had EGD for assessment of the healing of gastric ulcer following therapy in the absence of any symptoms.The overall positive contributive yield for a change in diagnosis and/or management was 44%.The presence of a positive endoscopic finding was more likely to effect a change in the therapeutic plan than an alteration of the initial diagnosis.A total of 20(5.8%)adverse events were noted,most were minor and none was fatal.CONCLUSION:The NASPGHAN and ASGE guideline is more likely to predict a positive endoscopic finding but is less sensitive to effect a change in the initial clinical diagnosis or the subsequent therapeutic plan.

Scientific and technical progress has been the driving forces of enterprises development.Milk productive enterprises are developing faster and growing better.It is very important to measure the contributive ratio of scientific and technical progress in milk productive enterprises.And the appraisement could help to develop milk productive enterprises.The model C^2GS^2 was established to appraise the contributive ratio of scientific and technical progress in milk productive enterprises in the research.And the appraisement on the contributive ratio of scientific and technical progress in milk productive enterprises was made by the model.In the results of appraisement,science and technology play a main role in milk productive enterprises.It is shown that our milk productive enterprises are developed by scientific and technical progress while not by input of productive factors.

Beyond authorship: Analyzing contributions in PLOS ONE and the challenges of appropriate attribution

Purpose:This study aims to evaluate the accuracy of authorship attributions in scientific publications,focusing on the fairness and precision of individual contributions within academic works.Design/methodology/approach:The study analyzes 81,823 publications from the journal PLOS ONE,covering the period from January 2018 to June 2023.It examines the authorship attributions within these publications to try and determine the prevalence of inappropriate authorship.It also investigates the demographic and professional profiles of affected authors,exploring trends and potential factors contributing to inaccuracies in authorship.Findings:Surprisingly,9.14%of articles feature at least one author with inappropriate authorship,affecting over 14,000 individuals(2.56%of the sample).Inappropriate authorship is more concentrated in Asia,Africa,and specific European countries like Italy.Established researchers with significant publication records and those affiliated with companies or nonprofits show higher instances of potential monetary authorship.Research limitations:Our findings are based on contributions as declared by the authors,which implies a degree of trust in their transparency.However,this reliance on self-reporting may introduce biases or inaccuracies into the dataset.Further research could employ additional verification methods to enhance the reliability of the findings.Practical implications:These findings have significant implications for journal publishers,Beyond authorship:Analyzing contributions in PLOS ONE and Maddi,A.,&the challenges of appropriate attribution highlighting the necessity for robust control mechanisms to ensure the integrity of authorship attributions.Moreover,researchers must exercise discernment in determining when to acknowledge a contributor and when to include them in the author list.Addressing these issues is crucial for maintaining the credibility and fairness of academic publications.Originality/value:This study contributes to an understanding of critical issues within academic authorship,shedding light on the prevalence and impact of inappropriate authorship attributions.By calling for a nuanced approach to ensure accurate credit is given where it is due,the study underscores the importance of upholding ethical standards in scholarly publishing.

Isolated deep convections over the Tibetan Plateau in the rainy season during 2001–2020

The Tibetan Plateau(TP)is a prevalent region for convection systems due to its unique thermodynamic forcing.This study investigated isolated deep convections(IDCs),which have a smaller spatial and temporal size than mesoscale convective systems(MCSs),over the TP in the rainy season(June-September)during 2001–2020.The authors used satellite precipitation and brightness temperature observations from the Global Precipitation Measurement mission.Results show that IDCs mainly concentrate over the southern TP.The IDC number per rainy season decreases from around 140 over the southern TP to around 10 over the northern TP,with an average 54.2.The initiation time of IDCs exhibits an obvious diurnal cycle,with the peak at 1400–1500 LST and the valley at 0900–1000 LST.Most IDCs last less than five hours and more than half appear for only one hour.IDCs generally have a cold cloud area of 7422.9 km^(2),containing a precipitation area of approximately 65%.The larger the IDC,the larger the fraction of intense precipitation it contains.IDCs contribute approximately 20%–30%to total precipitation and approximately 30%–40%to extreme precipitation over the TP,with a larger percentage in July and August than in June and September.In terms of spatial distribution,IDCs contribute more to both total precipitation and extreme precipitation over the TP compared to the surrounding plain regions.IDCs over the TP account for a larger fraction than MCSs,indicating the important role of IDCs over the region.

Machine learning models for the density and heat capacity of ionic liquid-water binary mixtures

Ionic liquids(ILs),because of the advantages of low volatility,good thermal stability,high gas solubility and easy recovery,can be regarded as the green substitute for traditional solvent.However,the high viscosity and synthesis cost limits their application,the hybrid solvent which combining ILs together with others especially water can solve this problem.Compared with the pure IL systems,the study of the ILs-H_(2)O binary system is rare,and the experimental data of corresponding thermodynamic properties(such as density,heat capacity,etc.)are less.Moreover,it is also difficult to obtain all the data through experiments.Therefore,this work establishes a predicted model on ILs-water binary systems based on the group contribution(GC)method.Three different machine learning algorithms(ANN,XGBoost,LightBGM)are applied to fit the density and heat capacity of ILs-water binary systems.And then the three models are compared by two index of MAE and R^(2).The results show that the ANN-GC model has the best prediction effect on the density and heat capacity of ionic liquid-water mixed system.Furthermore,the Shapley additive explanations(SHAP)method is harnessed to scrutinize the significance of each structure and parameter within the ANN-GC model in relation to prediction outcomes.The results reveal that system components(XIL)within the ILs-H_(2)O binary system exert the most substantial influence on density,while for the heat capacity,the substituents on the cation exhibit the greatest impact.This study not only introduces a robust prediction model for the density and heat capacity properties of IL-H_(2)O binary mixtures but also provides insight into the influence of mixture features on its density and heat capacity.

Early Triassic Silicic Volcanics of South China:Petrogenesis and Constraints on the Geodynamic Evolution of the Paleo-Tethys Ocean Region

The only occurrence of Lower Triassic silicic volcanic rocks within the South China Block is in the Qinzhou Bay area of Guangxi Province.LA-ICP-MS zircon U-Pb dating reveals that volcanic rocks of the Beisi and Banba formations formed between 248.8±1.6 and 246.5±1.3 Ma,coeval with peraluminous granites of the Qinzhou Bay Granitic Complex.The studied rhyolites and dacites are characterized by high SiO_(2),K_(2)O,and Al_(2)O_(3),and low MgO,CaO,and P_(2)O_(5) contents and are classified as high-K calc-alkaline S-type rocks,with A/CNK=0.98-1.19.The volcanic rocks are depleted in high field strength elements,e.g.,Nb,Ta,Ti,and P,and enriched in large ion lithophile elements,e.g.,Rb,K,Sr,and Ba.Although the analyzed volcanic rocks have extremely enriched zircon Hf isotopic compositions(ε_(Hf)(t)=-29.1 to-6.9),source discrimination indicators and high calculated Ti-in-zircon temperatures(798-835℃)reveal that magma derived from enriched lithospheric mantle not only provided a heat source for anatectic melting of the metasedimentary protoliths but was also an endmember component of the S-type silicic magma.The studied early Triassic volcanics are inferred to have formed immediately before closure of the Paleo-Tethys Ocean in this region,as the associated subduction would have generated an extensional setting in which the mantle-derived upwelling and volcanic activity occurred.
