Three types of nanoparticles, each having a different shape, are considered. These shapes include spherical(Fe_3O_4), cylindrical(Au), and platelet(Zn) configurations. The combination approach is utilized to evaluate the physical and thermal characteristics of the trihybrid and hybrid nanofluids, excluding the thermal conductivity and dynamic viscosity. These two properties are inferred by means of the interpolation method based on the volume fraction of nanoparticles. The governing equation is transformed into a dimensionless form, and the Adomian decomposition Sumudu transform method(ADSTM) is adopted to solve the conundrum of a moving fin immersed in a trihybrid nanofluid. The obtained results agree well with those numerical simulation results, indicating that this research is reliable. The influence of diverse factors on the thermal overview for varying noninteger values of γ is analyzed and presented in graphical representations. Furthermore, the fluctuations in the heat transfer concerning the pertinent parameters are studied. The results show that the heat flux in the presence of the combination of spherical, cylindrical, and platelet nanoparticles is higher than that in the presence of the combination of only spherical and cylindrical nanoparticles. The temperature at the fin tip increases by 0.705 759% when the value of the Peclet number increases by 400%, while decreases by 11.825 13% when the value of the Hartman number increases by 400%.展开更多

The inner boundaryof the annulus has a higher temperature, thus exerting a stabilising influence on the system. It is shown that whenthe layer rotation velocity diminishes, two-dimensional azimuthally periodic convective rolls, rotating togetherwith the cavity, emerge in a threshold manner. The development of convection is accompanied by a significantintensification of heat transfer through the layer. It is shown that the averaged thermal convection excitation inthe form of a system of two-dimensional rolls occurs against the background of oscillations of a non-isothermalfluid in the cavity reference frame caused by the gravity field. The excitation threshold and the structure ofconvective rolls are consistent with the results of the earlier theoretical studies by the authors performed usingthe equations of “vibrational” convection obtained by the averaging method. Furthermore, the experiments haverevealed a new type of averaged flow in the form of a spatially periodic system of toroidal vortices. It is shown thata steady streaming, excited by the inertial oscillations of the fluid, is responsible for the generation of the toroidalvortices. These flows develop in a non-threshold manner and are most clearly manifested in a case of resonantexcitation of one of the inertial modes.展开更多

A simulation using the Weather Research and Forecasting model with a 1.5-km grid spacing generally reproduces the development and subsequent organization of this convective system into an MCS, with an eastward protruding bow segment over the sea. In the simulation, an east-west-oriented high wind swath is generated behind the gust front of the MCS. Descending dry rear-to-front inflows behind the bow and trailing gust front are found to feed the downdrafts in the main precipitation regions. The inflows help to establish spreading cold outflows and enhance the downdrafts through evaporative cooling. Meanwhile, front-to-rear inflows from the south are present, associated with severely rearward-tilted updrafts initially forming over the gust front. Such inflows descend behind(north of) the gust front, significantly enhancing downdrafts and near-surface winds within the cold pool. Consistently, calculated trajectories show that these parcels that contribute to the derecho originate primarily from the region ahead(south) of the east-west-oriented gust front, and dry southwesterly flows in the low-to-middle levels contribute to strong downdrafts within the MCS. Moreover, momentum budget analyses reveal that a large westward-directed horizontal pressure gradient force within the simulated cold pool produced rapid flow acceleration towards Nantong. The analyses enrich the understanding of damaging wind characteristics over coastal East China and will prove helpful to operational forecasters.展开更多

It was found that the DPR rain type classification algorithm(simply called DPR algorithm) has mis-identification problems in two aspects in summer TP. In the new algorithm of rain type classification in summer TP,four rain types are classified by using new thresholds, such as the maximum reflectivity factor, the difference between the maximum reflectivity factor and the background maximum reflectivity factor, and the echo top height. In the threshold of the maximum reflectivity factors, 30 d BZ and 18 d BZ are both thresholds to separate strong convective precipitation, weak convective precipitation and weak precipitation. The results illustrate obvious differences of radar reflectivity factor and vertical velocity among the three rain types in summer TP, such as the reflectivity factor of most strong convective precipitation distributes from 15 d BZ to near 35 d BZ from 4 km to 13 km, and increases almost linearly with the decrease in height. For most weak convective precipitation, the reflectivity factor distributes from 15 d BZ to 28 d BZ with the height from 4 km to 9 km. For weak precipitation, the reflectivity factor mainly distributes in range of 15–25 d BZ with height within 4–10 km. It is also shows that weak precipitation is the dominant rain type in summer TP, accounting for 40%–80%,followed by weak convective precipitation(25%–40%), and strong convective precipitation has the least proportion(less than 30%).展开更多

文摘An unstably stratified flow entering into a stably stratified flow is referred to as penetrative convection, which is crucial to many physical processes and has been thought of as a key factor for extreme weather conditions.Past theoretical, numerical, and experimental studies on penetrative convection are reviewed, along with field studies providing insights into turbulence modeling. The physical factors that initiate penetrative convection, including internal heat sources, nonlinear constitutive relationships, centrifugal forces and other complicated factors are summarized.Cutting-edge methods for understanding transport mechanisms and statistical properties of penetrative turbulence are also documented,e.g.,the variational approach and quasilinear approach, which derive scaling laws embedded in penetrative turbulence.Exploring these scaling laws in penetrative convection can improve our understanding of large-scale geophysical and astrophysical motions. To better the model of penetrative turbulence towards a practical situation, new directions,e.g.,penetrative convection in spheres, and radiation-forced convection, are proposed.

文摘A genuine technological issue–the thermal convection of liquid in a rotating cavity–is investigated experimentally. The experiments are conducted within a horizontal annulus with isothermal boundaries. These flows develop in a non-threshold manner and are most clearly manifested in a case of resonantexcitation of one of the inertial modes.

文摘Mafic enclaves in granites are generally considered to represent coeval mafic melts that derived from metasomatized mantle, which can provide valuable information about crust-mantle interaction.Exploring the genetic links between the mafic enclaves and their host monzogranite from the Triassic Zhashui Pluton,Qinling orogenic belt. The enclaves(220±4.6 Ma)and the monzogranite(220±2.8 Ma)display identical zircon U-Pb ages, and they also share similar trace element and zircon Lu-Hf isotopes, indicating a cognate source. The monzogranite displays zirconεHf(t)values of−0.99 to+1.98,while the mafic enclaves show similar values of−0.45 to+3.26;however,differences in mineral chemistry reveal different crystallization conditions. The amphibole from the mafic enclaves has higher temperature and pressure(757℃;2.65 kbar)compared to those of the host monzogranite(733℃;1.96 kbar),suggesting that mafic minerals in the enclaves crystallized at an early stage. Moreover, apatite in the mafic enclaves displays slightly higher volatile contents(0.72 wt%)than those of the monzogranite(0.66 wt%),indicating a volatile-rich condition. These results suggest that the mafic enclaves represent early hydrous mafic cumulates in the granitic chamber, and subsequent magma convection would have led to the formation of the mafic enclaves.

文摘Shallow convection plays an important role in transporting heat and moisture from the near-surface to higher altitudes, yet its parameterization in numerical models remains a great challenge, partly due to the lack of high-resolution observations. This study describes a large eddy simulation(LES)dataset for four shallow convection cases that differ primarily in inversion strength, which can be used as a surrogate for real data.To reduce the uncertainty in LES modeling, three different large eddy models were used, including SAM(System for Atmospheric Modeling),WRF(Weather Research and Forecasting model),and UCLA-LES.Results show that the different models generally exhibit similar behavior for each shallow convection case, despite some differences in the details of the convective structure. In addition to grid-averaged fields, conditionally sampled variables, such as in-cloud moisture and vertical velocity, are also provided, which are indispensable for calculation of the entrainment/detrainment rate.Considering the essentiality of the entraining/detraining process in the parameterization of cumulus convection, the dataset presented in this study is potentially useful for validation and improvement of the parameterization of shallow convection.

文摘A mesoscale convective system(MCS) occurred over the East China coastal provinces and the East China Sea on 30April 2021, producing damaging surface winds near the coastal city Nantong with observed speeds reaching 45 m s^(–1). The analyses enrich the understanding of damaging wind characteristics over coastal East China and will prove helpful to operational forecasters.

文摘In this study, a new rain type classification algorithm for the Dual-Frequency Precipitation Radar(DPR) suitable over the Tibetan Plateau(TP) was proposed by analyzing Global Precipitation Measurement(GPM) DPR Level-2 data in summer from 2014 to 2020. It is also shows that weak precipitation is the dominant rain type in summer TP, accounting for 40%–80%,followed by weak convective precipitation(25%–40%), and strong convective precipitation has the least proportion(less than 30%).

文摘An extreme rainfall event occurred over Hangzhou,China, during the afternoon hours on 24 June 2013.This event occurred under suitable synoptic conditions and the maximum 4-h cumulative rainfall amount was over 150 mm.This rainfall event had two major rainbands. One was caused by a quasi-stationary convective line, and the other by a backbuilding convective line related to the interaction of the outflow boundary from the first rainband and an existing low-level mesoscale convergence line associated with a mei-yu frontal system. The rainfall event lasted 4 h,while the back-building process occurred in 2 h when the extreme rainfall center formed. So far,few studies have examined the back-building processes in the mei-yu season that are caused by the interaction of a mesoscale convergence line and a convective cold pool. The two rainbands are successfully reproduced by the Weather Research and Forecasting(WRF)model with fourlevel,two-way interactive nesting. In the model, new cells repeatedly occur at the west side of older cells, and the backbuilding process occurs in an environment with large CAPE,a low LFC,and plenty of water vapor.Outflows from older cells enhance the low-level convergence that forces new cells.High precipitation efficiency of the back-building training cells leads to accumulated precipitation of over 150 mm.Sensitivity experiments without evaporation of rainwater show that the convective cold pool plays an important role in the organization of the back-building process in the current extreme precipitation case.

文摘Idealized numerical simulations have been carried out to reveal the complexity in the development of asymmetric convection in a tropical cyclone(TC)under the influence of an environment with either uniform flow, vertical wind shear(VWS),or both. Results show that rainwater is enhanced to the right of the motion in the outer rainband, but such enhancement occurs in the upshear-left area of the inner-core region.Additionally, due to the asymmetries introduced by environmental flow,wavenumber-1 temperature and height anomalies develop at a radius of~1000 km in the upper levels.A sub-vortex aside from the TC center encompassing the wavenumber-1 warm center appears, and asymmetric horizontal winds emerge, which,in turn, changes the storm-scale(within 400 km)VWS.Deep convection in the inner core closely follows the changing storm-scale VWS when its magnitude is larger than 2 m s^(-1) and is located downshear of the storm-scale VWS in all the experiments with environmental flow.In the outer rainbands, the maximum boundary layer convergence is mainly controlled by the direction of motion and is located in the rear-right quadrant. These results extend upon the findings of previous studies in three aspects:(1)The discovery of the roughly linear combination effect from the uniform flow and large-scale VWS;(2)The development of upper-level asymmetric winds on a 1000-km scale through the interaction between the TC vortex and environmental flow, resulting in changes in the storm-scale VWS pattern within the TC area;(3)The revelation that TC asymmetric convection closely aligns with the direction-varying storm-scale VWS instead of the initially designated VWS.

文摘Heat transport has been significantly enhanced by the widespread usage of extended surfaces in various engi-neering domains.Gas turbine blade cooling, refrigeration, and electronic equipment cooling are a few prevalent applications. Thus, the thermal analysis of extended surfaces has been the subject of a significant assessment by researchers.Motivated by this, the present study describes the unsteady thermal dispersal phenomena in a wavy fin with the presence of convection heat transmission. This analysis also emphasizes a novel mathematical model in accordance with transient thermal change in a wavy profiled fin resulting from convection using the finite difference method(FDM)and physics informed neural network(PINN).The time and space-dependent governing partial differential equation(PDE)for the suggested heat problem has been translated into a dimensionless form using the relevant dimensionless terms. The graph depicts the effect of thermal parameters on the fin’s thermal profile. The temperature dispersion in the fin decreases as the dimensionless convection-conduction variable rises. The heat dispersion in the fin is decreased by increasing the aspect ratio, whereas the reverse behavior is seen with the time change.Furthermore,FDM-PINN results are validated against the outcomes of the FDM.

文摘This study is devoted to an analysis of natural convection and the emergence of delamination in an incompressible fluid encapsulated in a closed region heated from the side.Weak, medium and intensive modes of stationary laminar thermal and thermo-concentration convection are considered. It is shown that nonlinear flow features can radically change the flow structure and characteristics of heat and mass transfer. Moreover, the temperature and concentration segregation in the center of the square region display a non-monotonic dependence on the Grashof number(flow intensity). The formation of a nonstationary periodic structure of thermal convection in boundary layers and in the core of a convective flow in the closed region is also examined.Details of the formation of countercurrents inside the region with the direction opposite to the main convective flow are given. Finally, the influence of vertical and horizontal vibrations on oscillatory convection is analyzed in detail.

文摘The study of average convection in a rotating cavity subjected to modulated rotation is an interesting area for the development of both fundamental and applied science. This phenomenon finds application in the field of mass transfer and fluid flow control, relevant examples being crystal growth under reduced gravity and fluid mixing in microfluidic devices for cell cultures. In this study, the averaged flow generated by the oscillating motion of a fluid in a planar layer rotating about a horizontal axis is experimentally investigated. The boundaries of the layer are maintained at constant temperatures, while the lateral cylindrical wall is thermally insulated. It is demonstrated that libration results in intense oscillatory fluid motion, which in turn produces a time-averaged flow. For the first time, quantitative measures for the instantaneous velocity field are obtained using the Particle Image Velocimetry technique. It is revealed that the flow has the form of counter-rotating vortices. The vortex circulations sense changes during a libration cycle. An increase in the rotation rate and amplitude of the cavity libration results in an increase in the flow intensity. The heat transfer and time-averaged velocity are examined accordingly as a function of the dimensionless oscillation frequency, and resonant excitation of heat transfer and average oscillation velocity are revealed. The threshold curve for the onset of the averaged convection is identified in the plane of control parameters(dimensionless rotational velocity and pulsation Reynolds number). It is found that an increase in the dimensionless rotational velocity has a stabilizing effect on the onset of convection.

文摘In this paper, the unsteady magnetohydrodynamic(MHD)-radiation-natural convection of a hybrid nanofluid within a U-shaped wavy porous cavity is investigated. This problem has relevant applications in optimizing thermal management systems in electronic devices, solar energy collectors, and other industrial applications where efficient heat transfer is very important. The study is based on the application of a numerical approach using the Finite Difference Method(FDM)for the resolution of the governing equations, which incorporates the Rosseland approximation for thermal radiation and the Darcy-Brinkman-Forchheimer model for porous media. It was found that the increase of Hartmann number(Ha)causes a reduction of the average Nusselt number(Nu),with a maximum decrease of 25%observed as Ha increases from 0 to 50.In addition, the influence of the wall’s wave amplitude and the heat source length on the heat transfer rate was quantified, and it was revealed that at high wave amplitude, the average Nu increases by up to 15%.These findings suggest that manipulating magnetic field strength and cavity geometry can significantly enhance thermal performance. The novelty of this is related to the exploration of a U-shaped wavy cavity, which is not covered in previous studies, and to the detailed examination of the combined effects of magnetic fields, radiation, and hybrid nanofluids.

文摘The frontogenetic processes of a submesoscale cold filament driven by the thermal convection turbulence are studied by a non-hydrostatic large eddy simulation. The results show that the periodic changes in the direction of the cross-filament secondary circulations are induced by the inertial oscillation. The change in the direction of the secondary circulations induces the enhancement and reduction of the horizontal temperature gradient during the former and later inertial period, which indicates that the frontogenetical processes of the cold filament include both of frontogenesis and frontolysis. The structure of the cold filament may be broken and restored by frontogenesis and frontolysis, respectively. The magnitude of the down-filament currents has a periodic variation, while its direction is unchanged with time. The coupling effect of the turbulent mixing and the frontogenesis and frontolysis gradually weakens the temperature gradient of the cold filament with time, which reduces frontogenetical intensity and enlarges the width of cold filament.

文摘This study investigated the effects of upper-level descending inflow(ULDI)associated with inner-eyewall convection on the formation of the moat in tropical cyclones(TCs)with secondary eyewall formation(SEF).In our numerical experiments,a clear moat with SEF occurred in TCs with a significant ULDI,while no SEF occurred in TCs without a significant ULDI.The eyewall convection developed more vigorously in the control run.A ULDI occurred outside the inner-eyewall convection, where it was symmetrically unstable. The ULDI was initially triggered by the diabatic warming released by the inner eyewall and later enhanced by the cooling below the anvil cloud. The ULDI penetrated the outer edge of the inner eyewall with relatively dry air and prevented excessive solid-phase hydrometeors from being advected further outward. It produced extensive sublimation cooling of falling hydrometeors between the eyewall and the outer convection. The sublimation cooling resulted in negative buoyancy and further induced strong subsidence between the eyewall and the outer convection. As a result,a clear moat was generated.Development of the moat in the ongoing SEF prevented the outer rainband from moving farther inward, helping the outer rainband to symmetrize into an outer eyewall. In the sensitivity experiment,no significant ULDI formed since the eyewall convection was weaker, and the eyewall anvil developed relatively lower, meaning the formation of a moat and thus an outer eyewall was less likely. This study suggests that a better-represented simulation of inner-eyewall convective structures and distribution of the solid-phase hydrometeors is important to the prediction of SEF.

文摘An advantageous porous architecture of electrodes is pivotal in significantly enhancing alkaline water electrolysis(AWE)efficiency by optimizing the mass transport mechanisms. This effect becomes even more pronounced when aiming to achieve elevated current densities.Herein,we employed a rapid and scalable laser texturing process to craft novel multi-channel porous electrodes.Particularly, the obtained electrodes exhibit the lowest Tafel slope of 79 mV dec^(-1)(HER)and 49 mV dec^(-1)(OER).As anticipated, the alkaline electrolyzer(AEL)cell incorporating multi-channel porous electrodes(NP-LT30)exhibited a remarkable improvement in cell efficiency, with voltage drops(from 2.28 to 1.97 V)exceeding 300 mV under 1 A cm^(-1),compared to conventional perforated Ni plate electrodes. This enhancement mainly stemmed from the employed multi-channel porous structure, facilitating mass transport and bubble dynamics through an innovative convection mode, surpassing the traditional convection mode.Furthermore, the NP-LT30-based AEL cell demonstrated exceptional durability for 300 h under 1.0 A cm^(-2).This study underscores the capability of the novel multi-channel porous electrodes to expedite mass transport in practical AWE applications.
文摘Heat and mass transfer of a circular-shaped porous moist object inside a two-dimensional triangle cavity is investigated by using finite element method. The porous object is considered to be a moist food sample, located in the middle of the cavity with inlet and outlet ports with different configurations of inlet/outlet ports.Convective drying performance is numerically assessed for different values of Reynolds numbers(between 50 and 250),dry air inlet temperature(between 40 and 80℃)and different locations of the port.It is observed that changing the port locations has significant impacts on the flow recirculaitons inside the triangular chamber while convective drying performance is highly affected. The moisture content reduces with longer time and for higher Reynolds number(Re)values.Case P4 where inlet and outlet ports are in the middle of the walls provides the most effective configuration in terms of convective drying performance while the worst case is seen for P1 case where inlet and outlet are closer to the corners of the chamber. There is a 192% difference between the moisture reduction of these two cases at Re=250,T=80℃ and t=120 min.
