Prediction of the joint impacts of sea level rise and land development on distribution patterns of mangrove communities

Mangrove distribution along shorelines shows distinct zonation patterns;thus,different communities may face various influences from sea level rise(SLR)and land use.However,long-term change predictions are usually based only on the total extent of mangroves.Few studies have revealed how SLR and land development such as agriculture,aquaculture,and urbanization jointly affect different intertidal mangrove communities.This study proposed a novel framework combining SLAMM(Sea Level Affecting Marshes Model)and the CLUE-S(Conversion of Land Use and its Effect at Small regional extent)model to assess the potential impacts on upper and lower intertidal mangrove communities.Maoweihai in Guangxi,China,was selected as the study area and the potential impacts from the squeeze effect and mangrove expansion potential were evaluated.We established three scenarios combining SLR and land use patterns to predict mangrove coverage projections by 2070.The results showed that,under a single SLR driver,the upper intertidal mangroves would be more adaptive to rapid SLR than the lower intertidal mangroves.However,under the combined influence of the two drivers,the upper intertidal mangroves would experience larger squeeze effects than the lower intertidal mangroves,with up to 80.5%of suitable habitat lost.Moreover,the expansion potential of upper intertidal mangroves would be considerably more limited than that of lower intertidal mangroves.The length of the expandable habitat patch boundary of upper intertidal mangroves only reached 1.4–1.8 km,while that of the lower intertidal mangroves reached up to99.2–111.2 km.Further,we found that aquaculture ponds and cropland are the top two land development types that could occupy suitable habitat and restrict the mangrove expansion potential.Our results highlight that timely improvement of land use policies to create available landward accommodation space for mangrove migration is essential to maintain the coverage and diversity of mangrove communities under SLR.The proposed method can be a helpful tool for adaptive mangrove conservation and management under climate change. 展开更多

Quantitatively assessing the carrying capacity of water and land resources systems in arid and semi-arid areas is crucial for achieving the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals.In this work,taking Yulin City in China as a case study and employing the Criteria Importance Through Intercriteria Correlation(CRITIC)method,a modified model of coupling degree was developed to evaluate the car-rying capacity of water and land resources systems endowment and utilization,as well as their coupling coordination degree from 2013 to 2020.Our findings indicate that the water and land resources of Yulin are diminishing due to declines in agriculture,higher industrial water use,and wetland shrinkage.However,reallocating domestic water for ecological sustainability and reducing sloping farmland can mitigate this trend of decline.Temporally,as the coupling coordination between water and land resources system endowment in Yulin continuously improved,the coupling coordination between water and land resources system utilization first decreased and then in-creased with 2016 as the turning point.Spatially,the carrying capacity of water and land resources systems,the coupling coordination degree between water and land resources system endowment,and the coupling coordination degree between water and land resources system utilization in Yulin exhibited the same pattern of being higher in the six northern counties than in the six southern counties.Improving the water resources endowment is vital for the highly efficient use of water and land resources. 展开更多

Land use change has significant influence on the operation of the PopulationResources-Environment-De-velopment (PRED) System. Moderate land use is the key factor to ensure the coordinative and sustainable development between land use and PRED system. Based on the internal relationship between land use and PRED system, a PRED evaluation index system and a Press-Status-Response (PSR) model were established in this study. According to the expounding on the mechanism of the PSR model, we investigated the coordinative development between the changes of regional land use and PRED system taking Jiangsu Province as an example. The results showed that the orders of the Synthetic Index of Land Use (SILU) and the Variation of PRED Index (VPI) in Jiangsu are both the southern Jiangsu>the central Jiangsu>the northern Jiangsu. A cubic curve model was used to fit the relationship between the VPI and SILU. The inflection point of VPI was situated in 5.0 of SILU. When SILU was below 5.0, VPI increased with SILU, which will be helpful to the coordinative development between land use and PRED system. Based on those results, it is suggested that the land use degree of the southern Jiangsu, especially that of Nanjing City, should be moderately controlled at present, while land resources of the central Jiangsu and the northern Jiangsu should be further exploited. 展开更多

The carrying capacity of marine and land resources is one of the indicators to measure the sustainable development level of coastal areas,reflecting the supporting capacity of the ecological environment for human activities and the impact of human activities on the regional environment.This paper establishes an evaluation index system to determine the evaluation value of the carrying capacity of marine and land resources in China’s coastal areas,the evaluation index of marine and land resources supply capacity(economic and social development demand)subsystem,and the degree of coordinated development of the subsystems in 11 coastal areas from 2006 to 2017.The results showed that the average supply and demand capacity of the two subsystems in each region is not high;the average demand level of economic and social development is higher than the supply capacity of marine and land resources;the carrying capacity of marine and land resources is slightly overloaded in most areas;the collaborative development between the supply and demand subsystems is barely coordinated with moderate imbalance;most regions need to move in the direction of green development to ensure the supply capacity of marine and land resources. 展开更多

As one of the top ten environmental problems to be solved in the world,marine plastic waste and microplastic pollution seriously affect the health of marine ecosystems and the sustainable development of Marine economies.It is necessary to promote the establishment of a scientific and systematic Marine plastic waste and microplastic pollution control system and take strong measures to fundamentally curb and reverse the trend of marine pollution intensification in China.This paper first explains the practical significance of marine plastic waste and microplastic pollution control from three aspects:the sustainable development of the blue economy,the structural upgrading of the pan-plastic industry,and the improvement of public health awareness.Secondly,the particularity of marine plastic waste and microplastic pollution control system is summarized from three aspects of formation mechanism,migration path and damage performance.Then,it identifies domestic and international governance strategies and action plans from the perspectives of mechanism,subject,object,and measures,summarizes existing problems in the existing marine plastic waste and microplastic pollution control system,and gives directions for future improvement.Finally,some countermeasures and suggestions are put forward to accelerate the construction of China’s marine plastic waste and microplastic pollution control system,including the formation of a cross sectoral integrated land and sea control system,a full life cycle waste management process,a multi-participation model for marine ecological and environmental governance,and a global marine pollution prevention and control system. 展开更多

Based on the carrying capacity of the resources and the environment,this article defines the connotation of the land multifunctional space(LMFS)from three aspects,ecological protection,agricultural production and urban construction,in the new era of land space planning system.Moreover,a framework is constructed for the coordinated development of the multi-functional oriented space to match the use of land space(ULS)with the supply of resources and environment(SRE).Based on this,the technology and methods of comprehensive evaluation,dominance recognition,and matching relationship division functions of the use of land space(FULS)and functions of the supply of resources and environment(FSRE)are discussed.The advantageous functions of the use of land space(AFULS)and advantageous functions of the supply of resources and environment(AFSRE)are also identified in the study area.A LMFS coordinated development system integrating“function position-comprehensive partition-regulation strategy”is proposed.Through the empirical study of Shandong province,we found that,first,the FULS of ecological protection space in the province is mainly found in high value areas,and the FSRE is mainly in low value areas,which has certain complementarity in the space.The FULS of agricultural production space is mainly observed in high value areas,the FSRE is mainly in middle value areas,and the spatial distribution is balanced and staggered.The FULS of the urban construction space and the FSRE are mainly in middle values areas,and the spatial distribution is basically similar.Second,the FULS in the study area is dominated by the single advantage of agricultural production and urban construction,while the FSRE has a relatively balanced distribution of the advantages of ecological protection,single agricultural production and compound advantages of agricultural production and urban construction,and urban construction and ecological protection.The matching between the two is mainly at high and middle levels.Specifically,70%of the province’s land space still has a certain development and utilization potential,and 30%of ULS intensity is close to or exceeds the resource and environment carrying capacity.Third,considering the comprehensive impact of resource endowment,social and economic development and policy and institutional environment on different matching relationships,this paper constructs the land spatial development strategic pattern of“two screens-seven regions-multicore”positioning and“four regions-eight categories”hierarchical area of Shandong at the macro level,and puts forward a differentiated land space development strategy. 展开更多

Suitable spatial morphology of cultivated land is a basic requirement for sustaining agricultural economic development in mountainous areas.Coordinated development efficiency of cultivated land spatial morphology and agricultural economy(CECA)is of great practical significance to measure the efficiency of cultivated land use,and thereby promote regional rural revitalization.However,few studies to date have focused on coordinated development efficiency between cultivated land use and agricultural economy in mountainous areas from the perspective of cultivated land spatial morphology.Thus,the present study explores CECA with this focus using the data envelopment analysis method,and analyzes the key influencing factors via a geographical detector model in 16 counties in western Hubei province.The results show the following:(1)CECA exhibits significant spatial heterogeneity that is high in the south of the study area and low in the north;(2)scale efficiency is the primary limiting factor for CECA;(3)the insufficient output of cultivated land use mainly restricts CECA in the south of the study area,while individual county in the north suffered from input redundancy and insufficient output;and(4)population density in the southern region has the most significant effect on CECA,and gross domestic product has the greatest impact in the northern region.The results contribute to the derivation of specific measures by which to promote cultivated land use efficiency and sustainable development of the social economy. 展开更多

Currently,China has entered the period of land-sea coordinated planning,yet there are few studies on the interaction between land use intensity and sea eco-security in coastal zones.Therefore,taking the coastal zone of Xiamen as an example,this paper develops a comprehensive system to evaluate the coupling degree between spatial utilization intensity and eco-security based on the coupling degree theory in physics.Then the paper quantitatively analyzes and identifies the coupling coordination degree of various shore sections into four categories:well-coordinated and highly-coupled,moderately-coordinated and moderately-coupled,moderately-coordinated and slightly-coupled,and primary-level coordinated and slightly-coupled.Finally,it puts forward spatial planning guidelines for the four types of shore sections on the basis of land-sea coordination.Specifically,reserved ecological section should follow the principle of giving priority to the marine ecosystem,and strictly protecting the ecosystem and controlling development;ecological promotion section should follow the principle of optimizing land development based on the sea resources,and reserving space for transformation;restricted development section should follow the principle of land-sea balance,and only allowing low-impact development activities to achieve synchronous land-sea development;development leverage section should follow the principle of optimizing marine development based on land resources,giving full play to the advantages of coastal resources and featured coastal space,and achieving spatial optimization in accordance with people-oriented principles and local conditions.This research intends to provide a scientific basis for coastal zone planning and decision-making and a paradigm guide for gulf cities to coordinate the marine ecosystem and land development. 展开更多

海洋、海岸带蕴含的资源丰富,与人类生存发展息息相关。近年来,随着海洋经济的迅速增长,自然岸线和滨海湿地面积减少、生物多样性降低、典型生态系统受损、近岸海域灾害频发、渔业资源减少等问题日益显现。如何从战略高度提升海洋经济,... 海洋、海岸带蕴含的资源丰富,与人类生存发展息息相关。近年来,随着海洋经济的迅速增长,自然岸线和滨海湿地面积减少、生物多样性降低、典型生态系统受损、近岸海域灾害频发、渔业资源减少等问题日益显现。如何从战略高度提升海洋经济,开发和保护并举,确保海岸带、海洋资源取用合理是新时代的重要课题。陆地和海洋是生态系统不可分割的组成部分,开展陆海统筹的资源环境承载力评价是衡量区域经济发展与生态环境是否协调可持续发展的有效途径。文章系统地梳理了承载力概念的发展历程,对比了常用的海洋资源环境承载力评价方法,初步构建了陆海统筹的资源环境承载力评价指标体系,并提出使用熵值法来确定指标权重,采用状态空间评价模型或TOPSIS模型进行承载力综合评价,可以体现陆地和海洋相互影响、相互制约的关系,并具有较强的可操作性,评价结果可以反映区域资源环境承载力的空间差异或随时间变化情况,能够为海洋和海岸带保护利用提供有效借鉴。 展开更多

黄河流域生态承载力及人地关系可持续发展——基于异速生长模型的研究

厘清黄河流域人口与土地异速生长关系的空间分异特征与时空变化趋势对协调黄河流域人地关系,提高黄河流域生态承载力有重要借鉴意义。文章引入生物学异速生长模型对黄河流域生态承载力的人地协调关系进行研究。结果表明:第一,黄河流域... 厘清黄河流域人口与土地异速生长关系的空间分异特征与时空变化趋势对协调黄河流域人地关系,提高黄河流域生态承载力有重要借鉴意义。文章引入生物学异速生长模型对黄河流域生态承载力的人地协调关系进行研究。结果表明:第一,黄河流域城市主要以正异速二级,土地明显扩张类型为主,其在黄河流域上中下游占比分别为44.45%、52.94%和84.61%。第二,以2015年为分界点,黄河流域异速生长系数有显著的阶段性转换特征。2015年前黄河流域异速生长系数总体呈现下降趋势,2015年后则小幅提升。从2013年开始,黄河上游异速生长类型由正异速转为负异速,黄河中下游一直为正异速生长。第三,黄河上中下游异速生长系数的全局莫兰指数均为负数,异速生长系数呈现高低集聚分布态势。第四,从影响土地和人口数量变化的因素上看,工业化水平、金融发展对土地扩张和人口增长均有正向促进作用,政府干预可促进人口增长,但教育资源不足成为抑制人口增长的重要因素。从而得到以下政策启示:在提高城市土地利用率的基础上,上中下游城市群均应充分利用市场机制对城市建设用地进行资源配置,进一步提高城市建设用地的利用效率,积极推进土地的二次开发和利用,优化城市土地的利用结构,积极发挥城市集聚效应,合理规划城市增长边界。 展开更多

双向直接投资对实现区域经济高质量发展和价值链攀升至关重要。随着共建“一带一路”倡议的提出和对外开放程度的加深,双向直接投资持续活跃,不仅为企业带来巨大的经济效益,同时能够在技术引进、效率提升等方面产生显著的溢出效应,有效... 双向直接投资对实现区域经济高质量发展和价值链攀升至关重要。随着共建“一带一路”倡议的提出和对外开放程度的加深,双向直接投资持续活跃,不仅为企业带来巨大的经济效益,同时能够在技术引进、效率提升等方面产生显著的溢出效应,有效赋能西部陆海新通道高质量建设。在高质量发展背景下,西部陆海新通道强调从经济、高效、便捷、绿色、安全五个方面进行高质量建设,在重新布局和整合国内外物流通道、新型基础设施赋能和贸易便利化等方面形成了新竞争优势。因此,围绕新竞争优势导向下西部陆海新通道双向直接投资高质量发展的内在机理、价值提升、短板分析以及实现路径的相关研究具有重要的理论与现实意义。文章基于2010—2021年中国东部、中部以及西部陆海新通道10省份的双向直接投资面板数据,从“数量”和“质量”两个维度研究西部陆海新通道双向直接投资高质量发展及其溢出效应。首先,通过分析国际贸易新竞争优势,识别西部陆海新通道双向直接投资提质增量的关键因素。然后,从通道物流效率、贸易便利化水平和新型基础设施建设三个方面分析双向投资高质量发展对西部陆海新通道新竞争优势的提升作用。其次,从“数量”和“质量”两个层面对双向直接投资的时空演进特征和区域差异进行深入分析,找出西部陆海新通道10省份双向直接投资短板。最后,根据研究结果为西部陆海新通道双向投资高质量发展提出针对性对策建议。研究表明,就目前西部陆海新通道10省份而言,双向直接投资在数量和质量方面都存在短板。与中国东部和中部省市相比,其数量短板主要体现在外商直接投资总量较少且增幅较小、对外直接投资增长速度慢且与东部地区差距较大;质量短板主要体现在外商直接投资环境负面效应突出、产业结构升级助力不明显、技术溢出效应不显著三方面以及对外直接投资水平偏低、政府支持和引导不足两方面。根据研究结论,建议依托贸易便利化、新型基础设施建设、发挥核心物流枢纽区位优势、培育企业对外直接投资核心竞争力、以规模效应带动要素资源高效聚集与流动实现西部陆海新通道双向直接投资提质增量。 展开更多

全域土地综合整治作为新时期破解乡村发展难题的重要举措,关系着农业、农村和农民的现代化转型。推动全域土地综合整治与农业农村现代化转型的协同,对于优化土地利用、促进农业规模经营、改善农村生态、加快城乡融合及激发乡村发展动力... 全域土地综合整治作为新时期破解乡村发展难题的重要举措,关系着农业、农村和农民的现代化转型。推动全域土地综合整治与农业农村现代化转型的协同,对于优化土地利用、促进农业规模经营、改善农村生态、加快城乡融合及激发乡村发展动力具有重要意义。研究发现:(1)全域土地综合整治与农业农村现代化的演进历程具有耦合性,经历了从关注实现农业生产力提升与农业规模化、机械化到农村产业升级与土地开发及盘活,再到重视乡村生产、生活和生态全面现代化与人—地—协同的3个阶段。(2)构建全域土地综合整治与农业农村现代化转型的协同联动体系需从组织、空间和目标等方面展开,组织协同上需构建能辐射带动土地以外其他资源整合活化的多元主体内外联动模式;空间协同上需把握空间的横纵向联系,注重多维空间的系统整合;目标协同上则需坚持全域尺度的转型发展,促进土地整治功能性、实践性与现代化转型内生性、全面性的协同。(3)典型实践案例表明,全域土地综合整治与农业农村现代化在组织、空间和目标上的协同,需构建多元主体协同机制以推动多重目标的实现,创新土地整治模式实现空间的差异化发展,通过优化生产、生活和生态空间实现乡村全域整治与转型发展。 展开更多
