Aim: This study is aimed to assess the effect of cancer diagnosis disclosure on patient’s coping self-efficacy at King Abdul-Aziz University Hospital, KSA-Jeddah. Methods: The data collected through a structured interview guided by coping Self-efficacy Scale (CSE) to measure the patients’ ability to perceive and cope effectively with their new diagnosis and the subsequent events related to it. It consists of 26 items subdivided into three factors. Distributed to adult patients above 18 years old who is newly diagnosed with cancer and willing to participate. Results: Among 102 participants enrolled in this study the relationship between age, marital status, educational level, income, and CSE showed no significant relationship, where p-value was higher than 0.05. Also, the relationship between diagnosis time and CSE show no significant relationship, where p-value was higher than 0.05, as no differences in CSE among patients who were diagnosed with cancer within two weeks, one month, one year ago, two years ago of interviewing them. The overall mean for their coping self-efficacy was moderate coping self-efficacy (3.86 ± 0.552). Conclusion: This study showed that the majority of cancer patients in this study had moderate coping self-efficacy and this could be explained by the strong faith, ideal living environment which involves family support, groups’ participation, reinforcement and daily activities which helped them to control their emotions and their abilities for coping with their experience of cancer diagnosis disclosure.展开更多

Significant correlations were found between dyadic coping and self-efficacy, anxiety and depression, marital quality, and quality of life in elderly patients with mild cognitive impairment and their spouses, and there were gender differences, with a 36.1% [P = 0.028, OR = 0.639, 95% CI (0.429, 0.952)] and 54% [P = 0.004, OR = 0.460, 95% CI (0.269, 0.785)] reduction in the risk of MCI and dementia for older men aged 65 - 69 years with a spouse and for those aged 80 years and older with a spouse, respectively. In contrast, there was no significant difference in the association between having or not having a spouse and developing MCI and dementia in older women (all P > 0.05). Psychosocial interventions, skills interventions, and exercise from the perspective of dyadic relationships were effective in improving the physical and mental health of older adults with mild cognitive impairment and their spouses. However, there is a lack of specific intervention programs for dyadic relationships in the local cultural context as an entry point. Therefore, it is necessary to draw on internal and external relevant literature to treat both partners as a whole for intervention, provide personalized social, cognitive and motor therapy for patients and promote the integration and participation of caregivers, help patients and spouses to improve the sense of well-being and intimacy, reduce the burden of caregivers, and build a dyadic coping intervention program suitable for elderly patients with mild cognitive impairment in China. The current article aims to provide a conceptual review focusing on dyadic coping care to inform the development of a dyadic intervention program suitable for older adults with mild cognitive impairment in China. This review outlines the theoretical concepts, assessment tools, current state of research, and intervention methods for mild cognitive impairment and dyadic coping.展开更多

Drawing on the theoretical framework of attachment theory and incorporating contemporary research, the paper discusses how parental interactions shape the neural circuitry of infants and children, influencing their ability to form secure or insecure attachments. These attachment styles, in turn, play a critical role in determining the child’s coping mechanisms when faced with trauma. This paper focuses on trying to understand how attachment theory is connected to the reaction to trauma with a highlight on the four major styles of attachments which are secure, anxious, avoidant, and disorganized to mention but a few, and how they influence stress and adversity in children. Attachment theory holds that human beings’ ability to form affectional bonds in infancy determines their patterns of relatedness across the life cycle. The type of attachment that is secure usually supports healthy adaptation and good coping mechanisms regardless of the trauma in the childhood of the child. While secure attachment mostly facilitates favorable trauma-related outcomes, anxious or avoidant attachment can exacerbate or alter the responses. The caregiving system that is avoidant attachment has implications of autonomous self-functioning which has features of suppression of the emotional response and poor search for emotional support during stress. From the principles of developmental psychology and trauma theory, the paper also focuses on the major significance of the child’s early caregivers’ interactions that define the resilience and vulnerability factor. This knowledge is therefore critical in designing specific interventions based on the improvement of coping behaviors and emotional regulatory systems of children who have been exposed to trauma. Finally, we have the synthesis of new knowledge about the role of secure attachment relationships as its fundamental element in shaping adaptive traumatization and psychological development. The article also delves into the physiological processes involved in emotional regulation and the role of cortisol in disrupting attachment. Finally, the implications of these findings for therapeutic interventions and the challenges of addressing prolonged grief and traumatic responses in clinical settings are considered.展开更多

The second aim of this study is to explore additional outcome variables that were examined in the previous studies. Five electronic databases were searched systematically. These databases were MEDLINE, CINAHL Plus, Scopus, Embase and PsycINFO. The PICO model was employed to identify the search terms, with a thesaurus being used to provide synonyms. Reference lists of relevant articles were examined and hand searches of journals were also undertaken. The quality of each study was assessed using the Simulation Research Rubric (SRR). A total of 11 studies were included. All studies explored the impact of simulation education on undergraduate pre-registration nursing. Six studies explored nursing students’ competence and performance and two papers examined their critical thinking. Problem solving, learning motivation, communication skills and knowledge acquisition were examined once. The majority of studies indicated that simulation training has a positive impact on pre-registration nursing students’ self-efficacy and other outcome variables. Furthermore, the study results indicate that simulation training is more dependable than traditional training, and students were extremely satisfied with the simulation training. However, most of the studies included in this review had several gaps, including study design, sample size and dissimilarities between the scales used. Further research with large samples, reliable and valid instruments, and outcomes measures (such as critical thinking and transferability of skills) is required to provide better insight into the effectiveness of simulation in undergraduate nursing education. .展开更多

Finally, the implications of these findings for therapeutic interventions and the challenges of addressing prolonged grief and traumatic responses in clinical settings are considered.

文摘Kidney transplantation(KT)is the optimal form of renal replacement therapy for patients with end-stage renal diseases. However, this health service is not available to all patients, especially in developing countries. The deceased donor KT programs are mostly absent, and the living donor KT centers are scarce.Single-center studies presenting experiences from developing countries usually report a variety of challenges. This review addresses these challenges and the opposing strategies by reviewing the single-center experiences of developing countries. The financial challenges hamper the infrastructural and material availability, coverage of transplant costs, and qualification of medical personnel. The sociocultural challenges influence organ donation, equity of beneficence, and regular follow-up work.Low interests and motives for transplantation may result from high medicolegal responsibilities in KT practice, intense potential psychosocial burdens, complex qualification protocols, and low productivity or compensation for KT practice.Low medical literacy about KT advantages is prevalent among clinicians, patients, and the public. The inefficient organizational and regulatory oversight is translated into inefficient healthcare systems, absent national KT programs and registries, uncoordinated job descriptions and qualification protocols, uncoordinated on-site investigations with regulatory constraints, and the prevalence of commercial KT practices. These challenges resulted in noticeable differences between KT services in developed and developing countries. The coping strategies can be summarized in two main mechanisms:The first mechanism is maximizing the available resources by increasing the rates of living kidney donation, promoting the expertise of medical personnel, reducing material consumption, and supporting the establishment and maintenance of KT programs. The latter warrants the expansion of the public sector and the elimination of non-ethical KT practices. The second mechanism is recruiting external resources, including financial, experience, and training agreements.
文摘This literature review primarily aims to explore and synthesise the previous studies in simulation education research conducted over the past five years related to the effects of simulation training on the self-efficacy of undergraduate pre-registration nursing students. Further research with large samples, reliable and valid instruments, and outcomes measures (such as critical thinking and transferability of skills) is required to provide better insight into the effectiveness of simulation in undergraduate nursing education. .
