Objective:To discuss and analyze the causes of adverse reactions caused by the inactivated novel coronavirus vaccine(Vero cells),and to propose methods of prevention and care. Methods:A questionnaire was used to randomly select 229 adults who were vaccinated with the inactivated novel coronavirus vaccine(Vero cells)at Xi’an People’s Hospital(Xi’an Fourth Hospital). The adverse reactions were statistically analyzed. Results:Among the 229 adults vaccinated with the inactivated novel coronavirus vaccine(Vero cells),30 experienced vaccination reactions. The main reaction was local induration at the inoculation site, and dizziness was the primary systemic symptom. Conclusion:To reduce the incidence of adverse reactions to the inactivated novel coronavirus vaccine(Vero cells),it is necessary to effectively evaluate the health status of adults before vaccination, select the correct vaccination site, and strictly implement the rules of 3-inspections,7-checks,and 1-verification.Standardizing the operation process and providing thorough health education after vaccination can effectively reduce the occurrence of adverse reactions. 展开更多

Objective:This study aimed to investigate the impact of COVID-19 vaccination on the clinical characteristics and care needs of infected children during a high-intensity pandemic and to measure the potential effects of vaccination on children's health status and healthcare utilization. Methods:A sample of 903 children who had recently been infected with the novel coronavirus and came to our hospital's emergency department from January 11 to January 30,2023,was used as the research object in this retrospective study. The questionnaire on unknown coronavirus infection was filled out anonymously, and SPSS20.0 software was used for statistical data analysis. Results:The baseline conditions of 903 subjects were studied, including 505 males, accounting for 55.92%,and 398 females, accounting for 44.08%.The age of infection was mainly concentrated in preschool children(26.02%)and school-age children(38.76%).Regarding vaccination,561 cases were vaccinated, accounting for 62.13%.Among them,37 children received one dose of vaccine, accounting for 4.1%,463 children received two doses, accounting for 51.27%,and 61 children received three doses, accounting for 6.76%.For previous allergic diseases,180 children had a history of allergic diseases, accounting for 19.93%.Regarding sources of infection, the most common source was someone at home, accounting for 82.61%.Vaccination can effectively reduce the fever of children infected with the new coronavirus, the number of outpatient and emergency doctor visits, and the risk of hospitalization. In addition, regarding treatment, children in the vaccinated group were more likely to be treated at home, and the types of drugs used also differed from those in the non-vaccinated group. However, the vaccination group has a relatively high incidence of symptoms such as sore throat, cough, abnormal sense of smell and taste, muscle soreness, and headache. However, these are mild clinical symptoms and do not affect children's physical health and development.Parental care needs for children infected with COVID-19 are disparate, and parents of vaccinated children have lower proportions of needs for child care. Conclusion:Vaccination positively impacts the clinical outcomes of children infected with COVID-19 and their parents'well-being. 展开更多

Objective:To determine the real-world effectiveness of the ChAdOx1 nCoV-19 coronavirus vaccine in preventing severe disease and mortality due to COVID-19.Methods:A case-case design was used to estimate the effect of the ChAdOx1 nCoV-19 coronavirus vaccine on severe SARS-CoV-2 outcomes in individuals aged 40 years and above.Cases(n=200)were COVID-19 patients admitted to intensive care unit(ICU)or who died.Controls(n=223)were those with mild COVID-19,fit for home isolation. The logistic regression model was used to estimate adjusted vaccine effectiveness for full vaccination(two doses≥14 d)and partial vaccination status(one dose≥14 d or two doses<14 d).Results:The proportion of fully vaccinated individuals was significantly lower among cases(12,6.0%)compared to controls(30,13.5%).The adjusted effectiveness of a full dose of ChAdOx1 nCoV-19 coronavirus vaccine in preventing ICU admission or death was 81.9%(95%CI:61.3%-91.6%,P=0.001).Subgroup analysis restricted to age group, sex, and comorbidities found that ChAdOx1 nCoV-19 coronavirus vaccine had a significant positive effect in all subgroups and categories.Conclusion:COVID-19 vaccination reduces ICU admissions or death. Therefore, increased vaccine uptake may reduce the severity of the pandemic, more so in the elderly and those with comorbidities. 展开更多

Periodically updating coronavirus disease 19(COVID-19)vaccines that offer broad-spectrum protection is needed giventhe strong immune evasion by the circulating omicron sublineages. The effectiveness of prototype and BA.4/5-containing bivalent mRNA vaccines is reduced when XBB subvariants predominate. We initiated an observer-blinded,threearms study in 376 patients in Chinese individuals aged from 18 to 55 years old who had previously received three dosesCOVID-19 vaccine.Immunogenicity in terms of neutralizing antibodies elicited by a 30-mg dose of XBB.1.5-containingbivalent vaccine(RQ3027),a 30-mg dose of BA.2/BA.5-Alpha/Beta bivalent vaccine(RQ3025)and their precedent 30-mg Alpha/Beta(combined mutations)monovalent mRNA vaccine(RQ3013)and safety are primary and secondary endpoints, respectively. We recorded prescribed COVID-19 cases to explore the preliminary efficacy of three vaccines.RQ3027 and RQ3025 boosters elicited superior neutralizing antibodies(NAbs)against XBB.1.5,XBB.1.16,XBB.1.9.1,and JN.1 compared to RQ3013 at day 14 in participants without SARS-CoV-2 infection. All study vaccines were welltolerated without serious adverse reactions identified. The incidence rates per 1000 person-years of COVID-19 casesduring the 2nd-19th week after randomization were lowest in RQ3027.Overall,our data show that XBB.1.5-containingbivalent booster generated superior immunogenicity and better protection against newer severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2(SARS-CoV-2)variants compared to BA.2/BA.5-containing bivalent and Alpha/Beta monovalentwith no new safety concerns. 展开更多

Vaccination for coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)is a critical strategy in controlling the current pandemic of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus-2(SARS-CoV-2).After widespread COVID-19 vaccine implementation, isolated case reports about myocarditis as a potential adverse reaction started coming. As of November 12,2021,Centers for Disease Control and Prevention(CDC)has reported 1793 cases of myocarditis or pericarditis among young people with age 12-29 years, most cases have been reported in the male adolescent age group after the second dose of mRNA COVID-19 vaccines. It is very important to monitor the safety standards and adverse reactions of vaccines to effectively implement the vaccination policies. The CDC and the United States Food and Drug Administration actively monitor vaccine-associated adverse reactions a well-known platform such as Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System.CDC continues to recommend COVID-19 vaccines and booster doses for eligible individuals(age limit according to the type of vaccine)after careful consideration from risk-benefit assessment and favorable outcomes from vaccination.Mechanisms behind COVID-19 vaccine-induced myocarditis are not clear yet but several possibilities such as molecular mimicry between the spike protein of SARS-CoV-2 and self-antigens,immune response to mRNA,and activation of host immunological system, trigger of the pre-existing dysregulated immunological system have been documented in the literature.Overall, data suggests a good prognosis, especially in young patients. In this review article,we cover currently available data on COVID-19 vaccine-related myocarditis incidence, concerns, possible mechanisms of myocarditis, current treatment, and outcome trends, risk vs benefit assessment of COVID-19 vaccination in this current pandemic. 展开更多

During the coronavirus disease(COVID-19)epidemic,there have been concerns about the impact of vaccines on people’s fertility, including the fertility of those who are currently preparing for pregnancy and those who might become pregnant in future. However, there is still a lack of research on the effect of the COVID-19 vaccine on male fertility, and it is not surprising that couples and donors have concerns regarding vaccination. In this study,a retrospective cohort study was conducted to examine semen quality before and after receipt of the inactivated COVID-19 vaccine. There were no statistically significant changes in semen parameters(volume, sperm concentration, progressive motility, and total progressive motile count)after two doses of vaccine(all P>0.05).In summary, our study updates the most recent studies on the effects of the COVID-19 vaccine on male fertility, and the information from this study could be used to guide fertility recommendations for assisted reproductive technology(ART)patients and donors. 展开更多
