An experimental study on heat transfer and resistance coefficients of linearly arranged smooth and spirally corrugated tube bundles in cross-flow was performed. The heat transfer and resistance coefficients are presented in this paper with transverse and longitudinal tube-pitch and tube geometries taken into account. The experiment's results can provide technical guidelines for application to horizontal air preheater with arranged in-line spirally corrugated tube bundles, especially to the air preheater for CFBCBs (Circulating Fluidized Bed Combustion Boilers). 展开更多

In this study,the heat transfer optimization(evaporation)and the specification of the FX-70 zeotropic refrigerant flow inside a corrugated pipe have been investigated.Despite the low HTC(HTC),this type of refrigerant is highly applicable in low or medium temperature engineering systems during the evaporation process.To eliminate this defect,high turbulence and proper mixing are required.Therefore,using heat transfer(HT)augmentation methods will be necessary and effective.In order to find the most favorable operating conditions that lead to the optimum combination of pressure drop(PD)and HTC,empirical data,neural networks,and genetic algorithms(GA)for multi-objective(MO)(NSGA II)are used.To investigate the mentioned cases,the geometric parameters of corrugated pipes,vapor quality,and mass velocity of refrigerant were studied.The results showed that with vapor quality higher than 0.8 and corrugation depth and pitch of 1.5 and 7 mm,respectively,we would achieve the desired optimum design. 展开更多

Based on finite volume method, the pressure drop and heat transfer characteristics of one smooth tube and ten different axisymmetric corrugated tubes, including two with uniform corrugation and eight with non-uniform corrugation, have been studied. A physical model of the corrugated tube was built, then the numerical simulation of the model was carried out and the numerical simulation results were compared with the empirical formula.The results show that: the friction factor decreases with the increase of Reynolds number ranging from 6000 to 57000, the value of which in the corrugated tubes with non-uniform corrugation(tube 03–10) are smaller than those with uniform corrugation(tube 01–02). The geometry parameters of tube(01) have advantages on the heat transfer enhancement in low Reynolds number flow region(from 6000 to 13000) and tube(07–08)have advantages on the heat transfer enhancement in high Reynolds number flow region(from 13000 to 57000). The vortex, existed in each area between two adjacent corrugations called second flow region, is the root of the enhancement on heat transfer in the corrugated tubes. The effectiveness factor decreases with the increasing of Reynolds number and the performances of the corrugated tubes with pitch of 12.5 mm have advantages than these of 10 mm under the same corrugation geometric parameter. 展开更多

In this article,the experimental and finite element analysis is utilized to investigate the quasi-static compression features of sandwich constructions built with tapered tubes.3D printing technology was utilized to create the hollow centers of the tapering tubes,with and without corrugations.The results demonstrate that the energy absorption(EA)and specific energy absorption(SEA)of the single corrugated tapered tube sandwich are 51.6% and 19.8% higher,respectively,than those of the conical tube sandwich.Furthermore,the results demonstrate that energy absorbers can benefit from corrugation in order to increase their efficiency.Additionally,the tapered corrugated tubes'resistance to oblique impacts was studied.Compared to a straight tube,the tapered tube is more resistant to oblique loads and has a lower initial peak crushing force(PCF),according to numerical simulations.After conducting a parametric study,it was discovered that the energy absorption performance of the sandwich construction is significantly affected by the amplitude,number of corrugations,and wall thickness.EA and SEA of DTS with corrugation number of 8 increased by 17.4%and 29.6%,respectively,while PCF decreased by 9.2% compared to DTS with corrugation number of 10. 展开更多

Shape optimization of corrugated tube using B-spline curve for convective heat transfer enhancement based on machine learning 被引量:1

A significant way to achieve energy saving and emission reduction is to optimize the design of heat transfer devices.As is widely applied in industry,a corrugated tube constructed by B-spline curve is numerically investigated and the profile is optimized,using a surrogate model with considerations of performance evaluation criterion(PEC)as single objective or minimum flow resistance(f)and maximum Nusselt number(Nu)as multi-objective.The machine learning technique is used to determine the candidate samples to update the surrogate model for improving the optimization efficiency and reliability,which is validated to be effective in this paper.The optimization results show that the comprehensive performance of the corrugated tube is more sensitive to the vertical coordinates of the control points,with the appropriate increase in the number of control points for Bspline,and the better performance of corrugated tubes is achieved.The optimal profile corresponding to the best comprehensive performance is a double-crest shape.With Reynolds number(Re)increased,the wave-amplitude of the first wave gradually gets smaller,and the profile of the corrugated tube becomes smoother.With the increasing consideration of heat transfer performance over multi-objective optimization,the optimal shape gradually changes from a double-trough to a single-trough shape.Finally,the maximum PEC of 1.2415,1.1845,and 1.1504 are acquired with the Re=8000,10000,and 12000,respectively,and the maximum Nu increases from 358.540 to 478.821.Compared with the design with the maximum thermal performance,the best compromise solution from multi-objective optimization is determined at Re=8000,10000,and 12000,showing improved flow resistance of 83.917%,85.465%,and 84.473%,but with sacrificed thermal performance of 36.754%,37.088%,and 35.005%,respectively. 展开更多

With isopentane as working fluid, the heat transfer performances for corrugated, nodal and horizontal grain tubes are simulated. The structural parameters of the three kinds of tubes are compared with those of the plain tube. The numerical results using computational fluid dynamics are validated with theoretical values. For the corrugated, nodal and horizontal grain tubes, the heat transfer enhancements(HTEs) are 2.31—2.53, 1.18—1.86 and 1.02—1.31 times of those of the plain tube, respectively. However, the improved HTEs are at the expense of pressure losses. The drag coefficients are 6.10—7.09, 2.06—11.03 and 0.53—1.83 higher, respectively. From the viewpoint of comprehensive heat transfer factor, the corrugated tube is recommended for engineering applications, followed by the horizontal grain tube. 展开更多
