Three countries (Cote d’Ivoire, Ghana, and Nigeria) of the fifteen countries which are economically representative in the west African region to represent the overall-region were studied. Therefore, the objective of this study is to investigate the spatial effect of Chinese trade and investment on the economic growth of West Africa. The study focuses on the period from 1960-2014 using the dynamic panel data approach and spatial autoregressive approach for the econometric analysis of this topic. Empirically, the results show that trade openness with China has a positive impact on the neighboring countries of the region, especially for those who share the same border. Chinese investment is vital to the region’s economic growth as the results show that one dollar investment increase from China to the host country increases the economic growth in the neighboring countries by 0.328%.展开更多

ABMs seek to capture the overall macro-effects of different micro-decisions in a virtual world;they model individual entities within a complex system and the rules that govern them to capture the overall effects of their interactions. Results showed that falling PV costs coupled with generally increasing grid electricity costs would lead to increased uptake of PV systems in such communities. On the other hand, high lending rates in most developing nations would stifle use of credit facilities in purchases of PV systems and thus diminishing their uptakes. Results also showed that introduction of favourable government policies in forms of subsidies would strongly stimulate PV installations in such communities. Social acceptance is important for diffusion of any new technology into a given market and more so with solar systems;results show that neighbourhood influence plays major roles in PV diffusions with many households installing PV systems if their neighbours within a given sensing radius do the same. Results also showed that requiring a certain percentage of neighbours to have installed PV before a household considered doing the same could have negative effects on PV installations as decisions to install PV are influenced by many independent and dependent factors and not by neighbourhood threshold alone.展开更多

The proposed development plan can be extended to the northern tier states across the US and also to the northern and mountainous regions of Europe and Asia. We present an analogy to the earlier climate change period of the Last Glacial Maximum/“Ice Age” in which these same northern regions of the planet were covered in ice sheets making them uninhabitable for most humans and many plant and animal species. In some significant ways, the Ice Age scenario can be a reverse-model for our current climate crisis. However it's necessary to research more on specific patterns of tourism development in these ethnic minority areas. This paper studies Wulong Stockade in Beichuan County in Sichuan Province and examines the distinctive experience of the local Qiang community about developing local tourism resources and the local funding of the development. It notes how the introduction of new re-afforestation laws of 1999 affected the traditional, agriculture-based economy and how a member of the communio: was a key motivator in initiating tourism as a new economic resource. It has also explored changes in the economic conditions of Qiang peasants since tourism began in Wulong Stockade, where local incomes have increased considerably. This paper focuses on a characteristic Qiang area in the mountains of western Sichuan, demonstrates the necessity and feasibility of community tourism development, and uggests that other ethnic minority mountain villages in rural areas draw lessons from Wulong Stockade's experience.展开更多

However, if properly managed it can stimulate social cohesions, improving the environment and have beneficial economic spin offs for the local communities. This paper discusses the role of communities in the formulation of the policies concerning their local environment. It argues that community engagement by policy makers is important in giving legitimacy and ownership of the policies. Furthermore, this paper discusses the potential of cultural heritage in diversifying the economy in Botswana. This paper recommends for the re-assessment of the relationship between the state and local communities which is critical in resuscitating the seemingly ailing community business organizations. In conclusion, it argues for the sustainable management of cultural heritage as a social and economic resource in the next 50 years of Botswana's independence.展开更多

Most forest areas in Mexico are owned by local communities either through the ejido, agrarian indigenous community or groups of small owners. In the last 30 years, many forest communities explored forest production at a commercial scale, creating their own communal forestry business and concurring to national markets with their timber and non-timber products. The socio-economical impacts of this approach were tremendous, steadily improving communities living standards. This success prompted rural organizations to ask the Mexican government to launch programs to expand the "community forestry" model. With international assistance from the World Bank and other agencies, the government of Mexico launched three different programs to foster forest commons: the Forest Conservation and Management Program, the Indigenous, Communities and Biodiversity Project and the Mexican part of the Mesoamerican Biological Corridor. Performance of these programs has been assessed through the World Bank evaluation framework, but the question about their environmental impact or even about their environmental sustainability and therefore their validity as national policies has been scantily explored and practically not debated. To contribute to answering these questions, the author made an extensive analysis of their impact over forest cover during the 2003-2008 period using land cover maps and correlated them with institutional development variables, building a social organization and collective action index (SOCAI), following Elinor Ostrom institutional analysis and development framework (lAD).展开更多

Installing a central bank, several different solutions surfaced among the EU members and in the global economy, since the 1922 Genoa summit. The last Euro solution came after the severe, unexpected stock market crash on October 19, 1987. Furthermore, the sub-prime bubble 2007, the financial collapse 2008 and the final 2012 the banking melt down, induce to reconsider the overlapping monetary and financial fallouts. The 89 Interstate Banking Act and the Riegle Community Development and Regulatory Improvement Act of 1994, induce a monetary and financial evolving infrastructure. This paper focuses on the conflicts at the enlarging EU community seen the unavoidable monetary and financial integration, considering that the unique definition of the monetary functions as its essence is misinterpreted, in a clear common asymmetry affecting the whole evolving situation.展开更多

文摘The importance of the local economy of the development of tourism resources in China's relatively underdeveloped minority areas is already common knowledge in academic and business circles. This paper focuses on a characteristic Qiang area in the mountains of western Sichuan, demonstrates the necessity and feasibility of community tourism development, and uggests that other ethnic minority mountain villages in rural areas draw lessons from Wulong Stockade's experience.
文摘Cultural heritage does not have direct economic benefits. In conclusion, it argues for the sustainable management of cultural heritage as a social and economic resource in the next 50 years of Botswana's independence.
文摘Mexico forest tenure structure is known worldwide for its progressive approach of giving local communities full property rights to set a robust support to sustainable livelihoods in forested areas. To contribute to answering these questions, the author made an extensive analysis of their impact over forest cover during the 2003-2008 period using land cover maps and correlated them with institutional development variables, building a social organization and collective action index (SOCAI), following Elinor Ostrom institutional analysis and development framework (lAD).
文摘The role of HPH(Forest Logging Concession)in developing rural communities is very significant.SLJ(Sumalindo Lestari Jaya)as HPH company has an important contribution in empowering local communities, especially in opening land transportation in the interior and helping to build agriculture and gardens. The existence of Sumalindo company participates in developing forest resource management with local communities, among others, increasing livelihoods, maintaining and developing biodiversity conservation and maintaining climate change. These efforts are in accordance with the regulations of the KLHK(Ministry of Environment and Forestry),that every HPH holder is required(mandatory)to obtain a certificate of“PHAPL”(Sustainable Production Natural Forest Management)and an“eco label”from the Indonesian Eco Label Institute.Besides,it is recommended that the holders of HPH concessions and HTI(Industrial Timber Plantations)have an FSC(Forest Stewardship Council)certificate from the EU(European Union),and must meet three indicator elements, namely economic, social and ecological in SFM(Sustainable Forest Management). This article examines three critical questions that show the role of Sumalindo Company in economic, ecological and social development and managing forest resources with the community as follows:(1)The role of Sumalindo company contributes to the development of road infrastructure in the interior;(2)The role of Sumalindo in improving livelihoods and economic and social empowerment of local communities;(3)The role of Sumalindo with local communities in managing forest resources, including maintaining and developing biodiversity conservation and maintaining climate change.
文摘The focus of this research lies in community empowerment based on culture and local communities as well as sustainable ecotourism, which is directed at a complicated mechanism of empowerment elements, local culture that is thick in ecotourism to get added value for the novelty of ecotourism research. The object of research is Wasur National Park(WNP),Papua,Indonesia.Qualitative methods have been used to obtain accurate data and information,i.e.,in-depth interviews with indigenous people to find out the benefits or functions of their culture that can be developed in ecotourism, interviews with leaders and staff of WNP and the Department of Culture and Tourism to find out the potential and processes empowerment and existing tourism potential. As a result, from the perspective of empowerment, local people will easily follow the empowerment process provided that they use methods that are culturally appropriate which is from the viewpoints from the culture of sasi, totem and sacred places. The culture adopted by the community is in accordance with the principles of ecotourism that supports sustainability, environmental conservation, protection of environmental resources and increases economic value. However,it is recommended to carry out modified socialization in accordance with the current conditions.Hence, tourists who visit WNP do not become afraid of the very rigid sanctions which are applied to them who violate the existing cultural and environmental customs. Moreover,to get added economic value in the tourism business within WNP,it is necessary to explore the potential of cultural wealth, natural and biological wealth so that it becomes the main attraction in carrying out the economic empowerment of local communities in the field of ecotourism.

文摘With the increasing connection of controllable devices to isolated community microgrid,an economic operation model of isolated community microgrid based on the temperature regulation characteristics of temperature controlling devices composed of wind turbine,micro-gas turbine, energy storage battery and heat pump is proposed. With full consideration of various economic costs, including fuel cost,start-stop cost, energy storage battery depletion expense and penalty for wind curtailment, the model is solved by hybrid particle swarm optimization(HPSO)algorithm. The optimal output of the micro-sources and total operating cost of the system in the scheduling cycle are also obtained. The case study demonstrates that temperature adjustment of temperature controlling devices can adjust the power load indirectly and increase the schedulability of the isolated community microgrid, and reduce the operating cost of the microgrid.
文摘This paper revises the crucial outcome of adopting a single legal currency, within the environment of a classic based competing central bank infrastructure,in an uncertain monetary category definition class, from a generally closed economy,to a competing quasi-global market, for an unbiased monetary unit alone. The fallout effects of such a system include the transfer of capitals, the unavoidable reallocation of resources, and the non-homogenous economic development in different regional areas. The recent USA Interstate Banking Act experience, after the Riegle Community Development and Regulatory Improvement Act of 1994,constitutes a valid example of some necessary frameworks when opening a new financial operating infrastructure. This new paper focuses on the special conditions in the EU community States and the necessity-pending their financial integration-of a consideration of some likely negative fallout effects,in order to implement and consolidate some effective balancing measures.Nevertheless, the role that the globalization of the economic activity plays, especially in the financial community,is endorsing a rapid integration of the technology and operating techniques, that require critical volumes of trading and rapidly adjusting enterprise dimensions and operating techniques. The latter call for some form of institutional frameworks, considering the correct definition of the monetary function and its essence, requires a clear and unique common monetary framework.
文摘This paper reconsiders the outcome of the adoption of a single legal currency in the 1999 Euro Act. This paper focuses on the conflicts at the enlarging EU community seen the unavoidable monetary and financial integration, considering that the unique definition of the monetary functions as its essence is misinterpreted, in a clear common asymmetry affecting the whole evolving situation.
文摘Research on the construction of a theory for China’s open economy should break through the limitations of mainstream Western international economics.Firstly,we need to reveal the laws revolving around"three relationships and six threads"that governed China’s incremental process of trade liberalization.Secondly,we need to summarize China’s experience of the way new technologies, including the Internet, digital technologies and artificial intelligence(AI)have fostered and reshaped the position of small and mediumsized enterprises(SMEs)as micro-actors,providing us with new advantages in international competition.Thirdly,we need to analyze the new win-win mode of the international division of labor over land and sea established under the guidelines of the Belt and Road Initiative(BRI),as well as a new concept of pluralist balance in the international economy marked by a close connection between trade surplus and foreign investment.Fourthly, under the guidance of Xi Jinping’s important discourses,we should offer a rationale for the Chinese scheme of global economy governance within the community of shared future for mankind.
文摘The Second Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation has ushered in a new phase featuring the joint promotion of a comprehensive,high-quality Belt and Road construction.Advancing the construction of a high-quality Belt and Road is based not only on the solid achievements of its six years of consolidation and practical cooperation, but also on the guidance of China’s initiatives and proposals, general recognition by the countries along the Belt and Road,as well as the support and recognition from international organizations like the United Nations. However, the uncertainty and instability found in the ever-changing international environment, the suspicion and strategic competition from extraterritorial major countries, and other concrete problems appearing during its construction over the past six years have also posed certain challenges that cannot be ignored. The direction of its high-quality development in this new phase involves China’s proactive selection to face the changing international environment and curtail suspicions from the outside world,as well as to resolve the difficulties and problems it encounters along the way in a timely manner, which will ensure the long-term sustainability of the Belt and Road.Achieving this goal calls for long-term system engineering, wherein China should continue to play a steering role, and the convergence of the interests of the countries along the Belt and Road so as to fuse these nations, each with their own respective resources, closely together by building a regional value chain. In such a closely-knit community,high-quality infrastructure serves as the backbone, while diversified financing institutions and functions serve as the arteries.Meanwhile, institutional building should also be emphasized, which will ensure that the goals for building a high-quality Belt and Road are fulfilled at different levels.
文摘Throughout history, there have been close political, economic, and cultural connections between the border areas and the interior of China. To strengthen the unity of the Chinese nation and forge a strong sense of national identity,it is important to draw inspiration from our history.Politically,we must reinforce the memory of national unity and promote the belief that the Chinese nation is a big family and China's territory is indivisible.Economically,it is crucial to continue the historical economic ties between the border areas and the interior, and to deepen economic interdependence in the present era. This will strengthen economic connections between different regions and groups within China and promote unity.Socially,it is essential to facilitate the population flow between dfferent regions, particularly between the border areas and the interior,to promote ethnic communication and integration.Encouraging ethnic groups to live among each other and supporting two-way population flow can further enhance social cohesion.Culturally,we must maintain our tradition of cultural sharing and spread traditional Chinese culture and modern socialist values among all ethnic groups. This will strengthen the bond of the Chinese nation as one community. These four pillars-political,economic,social,and cultural-form the foundation of a strong sense of community for the Chinese nation.
