Between the City and Images:An Analysis of Mainstream Media’s Paths of Constructing the Cultural Memory of a City:Taking Chengdu Radio and Television’s“Hi Chengdu”as an Example

Mainstream media play a crucial role in constructing the cultural memory of a city.This study used 319 short videos released by“Hi Chengdu,”a new media product of Chengdu Radio and Television,as samples.Based on the grounded theory,a research framework encompassing“content,technology,and discourse”was established to explore the paths through which mainstream media construct the cultural memory.Regarding content,this paper emphasized temporal and spatial contexts and urban spaces,delving deep into the themes of the cultural memory and vehicles for it.In terms of technology,this paper discussed the practice of leveraging audio/visual-mode discourse to stitch together the impressions of a city and evoke emotional resonance to create a“flow”of memory.As for discourse,this paper looked at the performance of a communication ritual to frame concepts and shape urban identity.It is essential to break free from conventional thinking and leverage local culture as the primary driving force to further boost a city’s productivity,in order to excel in cultural communication.

Analysis of Methods of Conserving Cultural Heritage in Ancient Cities: A Case Study of Nantou Ancient City in Shenzhen, Guangdong, China

Takes the renovation of Nantou Ancient City in Shenzhen for example, this study reveals the opportunities and challenges brought by the renovation of the ancient city to the conservation of cultural heritage via analyzing the problems existing in the cultural heritage conservation of Nantou Ancient City and excavating the cultural heritage value of the ancient city. Based on it, this study put forwards some suggestions on the excavation and the inheritance of cultural heritage value, in order to seek the interactive relationship and promote the coordinated development between the ancient city and the cultural heritage.

Protection and Development of Famous Historic and Cultural Cities Guided by Tourism Culture Geography:A Case Study of Ancient Pingyao City

By introducing cultural landscape theories and attaching importance to practical application of theories, this paper analyzed protection and development of ancient Pingyao City under the guidance of relevant theories. Taking Pingyao for example, application of theories in practices will be better understood, and the role of human geography in urban planning reflected. Referring to the protection and development cases of famous historic and cultural cities, this paper analyzed historical and cultural context, and spatial environment of Ancient Pingyao City from the perspectives of culture and geography, and proposed suggestions for the protection and development of ancient city under the guidance of human geography theories.

Preliminary Study on the Regional Cultural Characteristics in the Design of Xiweiyuan Park in Xianyang City

[Objective] To explore and analyze the theories and practical approaches to construct garden sites with regional cultural characteristics. [Method] Taking the landscape design of Xiweiyuan Park in Xianyang City as an example,how to express the regional characteristics in the modern garden designs was discussed from the perspective of design principle,layout of planning and landscape analysis. [Conclusion] Garden sites are bathing in certain regional cultures,which could demonstrate overall atmosphere through the spatial structure reflected by concrete material elements such as buildings,architectural oddments,plants and their combinations,thus the essence of garden characteristics is its territoriality. To regain the sense neglected by modernism,the danger of assimilation brought by globalization to the regional culture should be avoided; to solve the problems of losing distinctive characteristics and convergence of landscape design in the garden design,it should be started from natural environment,and then a garden site recognized by both culture and sensibility of people should be created for both mental and physical rest of people.

Protection of Historic and Cultural Heritage in the Urban Renewal of Xi'an City,China

Concept of urban renewal was elaborated,which for the protection of historic and cultural heritage not only provides a favorable opportunity of integrating neighboring environment and improving protection conditions,but also imposes threats such as destroying its historic images and patterns,degrading of survival environment.To properly protect historic and cultural heritage in the unceasing urban renewal,and make it a significant resource and feature of the city but not a barrier of urban development,empirical analysis and theoretical research were adopted to analyze and study current conditions and problems of the protection of historic and cultural heritage in Xi'an City from the dimension of urban renewal concept and present urban renewal of Xi'an.Moreover,through summarizing successful experience of other regions,specific strategies were given to protect historic and cultural heritage of Xi'an City in its urban renewal more scientifically and reasonably.

Empirical Research on Tourism Authenticity of Ancient Cultural City——A Case Study of Lijiang Ancient City in China

On the basis of tourism authenticity theory and field investigation and analysis of Lijiang ancient city, the paper had explored tourists' tourism authenticity, and further revealed the inner relation between tourism authenticity and tourism motivation of ancient cultural cities. It was found that ancient cultural cities generally had the highest objective authenticity, followed by existential, constructive and post-modern authenticity. As for tourism motivation, motivation of knowledge function, of reward maximization, of punishment minimization, of self-esteem and of self-fulfillment presented to diminish progressively. Relationships between four types of tourism authenticity and five types of tourism motivations also varied from each other. It had enriched empirical quantitative research results of domestic tourism authenticity in theory, and provided application value for the research on realistic tourism market and planning activity based on tourists in practice.

On Development of Leisure Tourism Products of Intangible Cultural Heritages in Wuxi City

Based upon the brief introduction of the concept of intangible cultural heritage and the relationship between intangible culture and leisure market,the current situation and existing problems of leisure tourism products of Wuxi City are analyzed.The article points out that there are 5 types of leisure products in Wuxi City including scenic spots,natural landscape,urban leisure,rural biological leisure as well as cultural leisure.As for problems of single structure of leisure products,lack of participation and culture,monotonous and unreasonably expensive night travel products,incomplete facilities for certain products,and weak consumption ability,some relevant propositions on leisure tourism products of Wuxi City from the angle of intangible cultural heritage are made,emphasizing to take advantage of the various forms of leisure products in order to enhance the cultural connotation of the present leisure products,add charm to night travel,and boost leisure consumption.

Actual Value of Rural Cultural Auditorium Construction from the Perspective of Social Transformation:A Case Study of Wenzhou City

From the perspective of social transformation,this paper analyzed the actual value of the construction of Wenzhou rural cultural auditorium,and it was found that it has important value in promoting the transformation of rural culture,economy,and grassroots governance.The construction of rural cultural auditorium is helpful for improving the present backward status of rural public cultural service supply,and promoting the integration and development of rural culture and urban culture;cultivating new rural economic entities,injecting action force for rural economic transformation and development;providing space guarantee for citizen participation in rural grassroots social governance,and is favorable for enhancing the awareness of public participation in rural grassroots governance.However,in the context of comprehensive rural revitalization,the value of cultural auditorium construction has not yet been fully realized.It is necessary to further enhance its value in rural social transformation from three aspects:auditorium construction,daily activity undertaking,and residents'participation in cultivation.

Cultural symbols,a manifestation of cities’cultural resources,are not only signs that frame concepts but also forms that express meanings.Exploring the international communication of cities from the perspective of symbols,this paper analyzes in depth how cities create their cultural symbols in the dynamic process of international communication in an era of symbol-based digital media,and how they develop their narratives and explain meanings through the dissemination of symbols when telling their stories to international audiences,thus enhancing the efficiency and effectiveness of their international communication efforts.

Ancient Cultural Relics in Cities and Environmental Art Design: Series I of Urban Public Environment Design

Buildings and spatial environment left by history record evolution traces of cities and significant events related to the cities, and as a particular carrier of culture, they are witnesses of city development, and show the later generations memories of the city history. In urban planning, historical images must be respected, the relation between ancient cultural relics and urban planning handled properly, city brand established, and city image improved. The author, on the basis of exploring signifi cance of urban ancient cultural relics, used practical cases to fi gure out approaches of preserving urban ancient cultural relics in urban planning.

Local Model of Intangible Cultural Heritage Inheritance and Utilization: A Case Study of Tai'an City

Tai'an area is endowed with diversified intangible heritages covering food, clothing, shelter, transport, wedding, funeral, festival, folk games, athletic activities and so on. Intangible heritages are not well inherited, traditional practical and aesthetic functions of intangible heritages are lost for the backward means of transmission and limited inheritance environment. Intangible heritages should be inherited and utilized in multiple means and forms. Using its advantageous tourism resources, Tai'an City tried to explore multiple channels and forms of intangible heritages such as folklore scenic area, folklore performance, and folklore tourist commodities.

Driving Effect of Theme Cultural Tourist Destination Attributes on Tourists' Place Attachment: A Case Study of Yancheng City in Changzhou

From the perspective of man–land relationship, Yancheng City(ruins of Yancheng in the Spring and Autumn Period) as a typical theme tourist destination is selected to construct the structural model of driving effect of tourist destination attributes on tourists' place attachment, and carry out the empirical research. The results show that attributes of Yancheng City contain 4 dimensions, and tourists' perception of the attributes declines in the sequence "recreational and entertainment attribute→ attribute of culture of the Spring and Autumn Period→ attribute of landscapes and ruins→ attribute of humanistic concern"; the four-dimension attributes vary greatly in driving tourists' place attachment, recreational and entertainment attribute and attribute of culture of the Spring and Autumn Period have obvious positive driving effect, attribute of landscapes and ruins and attribute of humanistic concern have poorer driving effect; generally speaking, driving effect of tourist destination attributes on tourists' place attachment is demonstrated as "highlighted value functions of tourist destination attributes→‘predominant area' of tourists' perceptual experience→ obvious driving effect on tourists' place attachment" and "hysteretic value functions of tourist destination attributes→‘vulnerable area' of tourists' perceptual experience→ weakened driving effect on tourists' place attachment"; driving effect of the overall attributes of tourist destination on tourists' place attachment is to be further improved and optimized.

Construction of Cultural Landscape System for Ancient Yiyang City from the Perspective of “Mountain, Water and City”

As the revitalization of city culture and the city cultural confidence has been increasingly valued, the ancients' perception and interpretation of mountains, rivers and cultural landscapes, as well as their wisdom in the construction of traditional cities deserve more attention and further exploration. Research on Cultural Tourism Issues of Trikala City, Greece

Cultural tourism in regional cities has grown rapidly in recent years. In order to be successful and sustainable, management of the local authorities is considered as an urgent need to investigate the views of the local community The purpose of this study was to investigate and interpret the residents＇ views of Trikala city, in Thessaly, for the benefits of cultural tourism and their attitude to the relevant bodies and local authorities. The empirical analysis is based on the use of cross section data, which were derived from a sample survey to 372 residents of the city. The empirical analysis shows that, generally, the benefits of cultural tourism are recognized, even if the region is at an early stage of development. The findings of logistic regression model show that the view that competent bodies ensure that the promotion of local culture and local heritage is determined by the abundance of events, festivals, and local museums in the city. From the proper utilization of architectural heritage attractions and local heritage, the knowledge of recent achievements concern cultural tourism and the appropriate infrastructure in the city.
