A Multimodal Critical Discourse Analysis of Lingnan Cultural Promotional Videos on Social Media

In recent years,more and more directors of culture and tourism have taken part in the promotion of local cultural tourism by cross-dressing,talent shows,and pushing their limits on self-media platforms.This study investigates short videos of Lingnan culture promoted by directors general and deputy directors general of the Culture,Radio,Television,Tourism,and Sports Bureau of counties and cities in Guangdong Province on social media by the method of multimodal critical discourse analysis.The analysis of 33 videos shows that Lingnan culture is a domineering and confident culture,historical culture,graceful and elegant culture,and vibrant and active culture.Domineering and confident culture is embedded in the utterances and behaviors of the directors general or deputy directors general in the video.Historical culture is realized through the conversation with historical figures through time travel.Graceful and elegant culture is constructed in the depiction of sceneries and the depiction of characters’manners.Vibrant and active culture is represented in the depiction of the characters’actional process and analytical process.

The Research on Cross-Cultural Critical Thinking in English Teaching: A Pedagogical Paradigm Within the Ideological and Political Course Framework

The conflation of linguistic competencies with ideological and political educational paradigms presents unique opportunities and challenges for English language teaching(ELT)in our increasingly interconnected world.This research seeks to address the role of cross-cultural critical thinking within the landscape of English pedagogy,framed by the imperatives of ideological and political education.Employing a multi-method approach,including thematic content analysis and action research,the study proposes a pedagogical model designed to integrate transcultural discourse and ideologically reflective practices into the conventional ELT curriculum.This paper argues for a reimagined approach to teaching English that encourages students to engage with diverse cultural perspectives and develop a nuanced understanding of global issues.

Critical Discourse Analysis of City Cultural Identity Construction—A Case Study of Video Xi tang

With the rapid development of science and technology,video has become a very important way to demonstrate the city itself.This paper,based on Fairclough's three-dimensional conception of discourse to the video of Xitang,analyzes the on-screen titles of this video to reveal the ideology behind it.Through the analysis,it points out that this video,while protecting Xitang's own unique traditional characteristics,it tries to cater for the needs not only Chinese people but also foreigners.To some extent,it tries to promote Xitang itself.

Chinese Western Cultural Relations＂ A Critical Analysis

This study, within the theoretical framework of Critical Discourse Analysis, aims to explore how culture represents language, causing cultural differences between the East and the West. With a set of questions, a qualitative method is employed to collect the data in this study. By examining the 189 theoretical studies and investigating cultural and linguistic features, this study will show how culture influences culture and language, while the content analysis is completely excluded due to the limited time and space. The data will be analyzed in light of the critical discourse analysis showing how social subjects are constructed in various discourses with their personal terms. A historical change between the East and the West is the return of the ancient Silk Roads at the early 21st century. Social changes can be seen when studying their cultural relations. Language is easily abstracted from culture. Both claim special reality of what they are. This article clearly explains how the discourse in the Chinese Western cultural relations generally reflects the social practice, the ideology, and power relations in social structures in which various discourses were published at the time of reporting. Finally, English and Chinese belong to two different language families representing linguistic differences. This makes learning English a serious challenge for Chinese native speakers.

A Variety of Cultures Represented in English Language Textbooks： A Critical Study at Saudi University

Textbooks material is one of the important issues that are worthy to investigate in order to enrich student＇s engagement and interaction in EFL （English as a Foreign Language） classrooms. In this study, the author argues that textbooks materials used in academic institutions may well take a significant part in generating an active environment in EEL classrooms. It is believed that more opportunities will be created for students to be more involved, active, and able to understand the content being addressed more effectively. Yet, by looking at the textbooks being utilised （at a university context where the author teaches）, one can notice that student＇s culture （Eastern） is to a large extent missing in these textbooks, most of these books instead represent dominantly ＂Western＂ culture namely American and British cultures. This can deafly be depicted by topics discussed, pictures, clothing, names, and many other issues portrayed in these textbooks. This study is an attempt to challenge and problematize such domination of Western cultures portrayed in the content of English textbooks used in academic institutions not merely within Saudi Arabia but also extended to other countries and nations in the world.

This paper analyzes Coca-Cola advertising under Fairclough’s three-dimensional framework in the hope that consumers can better understand ideology behind advertising discourse.It reveals that Coca-Cola Company tries to construct pop cultures in its advertising discourse,in order to get recognition from its consumers.In turn,it contributes to the construction of the pop culture among the younger generation.

文学阐释学:文化研究的挑战及其视域拓展

20世纪以来,众多新型理论观念纵横驰骋于文学阐释场域之中,持续制造了巨大的理论震荡。文化研究的崛起,不仅对文学阐释学构成了巨大的理论挑战,同时也为其发展赢得了开阔的阐释视野和强大的思想能量。文化研究的多元阐释观念和阐释方法同时也诱发出“过度阐释”“强制阐释”等问题。文化研究究竟是一种“强制阐释”,抑或是对阐释的有效拓展?显然,并不能将文化研究简单等同于“强制阐释”,辩证看待二者的关系意义重大。文化研究表明,强大的阐释能力对当代中国文学阐释学的理论更新和话语重构提供了有益的启示,展现出前所未有的活力。一方面,文化研究不仅推动了当代学界对文学阐释学的批判性反思;另一方面,文化研究促使我们将意义问题和文学阐释学置于更广阔的知识谱系中加以考察,进而推进当代中国文学阐释学的话语体系建设。

在新世纪的当代文坛,“新南方写作”是和“新东北作家群”一样备受瞩目的文学现象。作为新的批评概念,“新南方写作”的提出不仅是对新南方地区的地方书写的总结,还是作家、评论家和学术期刊编辑共同参与的话语建构活动。基于地方路径,“新南方写作”的风格可以被归纳为三个方面:地方性与风土的再现、方言的转化与非透明性的语言、“巫魅美学”的凸显。“新南方写作”用新的观察视角打开了新的文学讨论和学术研究的空间,以“边缘的崛起”的文化想象重构了中国文学与文化的地理版图。

“能源”的隐身:批评视角下新能源汽车广告叙事中的消费文化

技术环境的变化带来广告叙事的新动向,社交媒体成为汽车广告的营销新阵地。整合多模态批评话语分析理论与叙事话语分析理论,建立多模态广告话语叙事分析框架,以社交媒体上的传统汽车广告和新能源汽车广告为语料,对比其叙事话语,聚焦能源作为话语主题的表达,审视其背后的汽车消费文化。研究发现,新能源汽车广告以互文式叙事机制,呈现了以汽车消费获得美好生活和精英身份的故事,其底层叙事逻辑仍与传统汽车广告一致:欲望驱动的身份消费实践。新能源汽车广告叙事中的“能源”隐身于营销属性之下,成为象征性的商业符号。在消费主义意志主导下,广告将新能源汽车建构为理想生活和精英身份的象征,鼓吹汽车消费的身份定义和自我表达作用。广告塑造的汽车消费文化实质上已与中国新时代能源发展规划脱节。

美国加州K-12族裔研究课程探绎

对外传播中的福州城市形象话语建构——以“十三五”期间China Daily报道为例

以“十三五”期间China Daily有关福州的报道为语料,以文化话语研究为理论框架,从话语主体、话语主题和话语形式三个方面探讨福州城市形象的话语建构。研究发现,总体上China Daily对外塑造了一个积极的福州城市形象,其中以文化形象最受关注。此外,与以往同类研究相比,样本媒体进一步传递了普通民众的声音,更多使用人物通讯的报道形式,从而更有效地对外讲述了福州故事、中国故事。本研究对城市形象的话语建构与国际传播具有现实意义。

托马斯·克洛与文化研究视域中的前卫艺术理论

对文化工业的批判是从法兰克福学派到《十月》学派艺术理论的核心立场之一。尽管对精英主义的反驳和修正早已为大众文化正名,理论界却没有形成与大众文化“和解”的前卫艺术理解范式。托马斯·克洛吸收了文化研究的思想,认为大众文化自身就包含潜在的批判性,前卫艺术通过对大众文化资源的择取调用,在形成新的艺术解决方案的同时,实现社会批判的隐射。克洛重新界定了“前卫艺术”的概念,使一种能容纳大众文化的前卫艺术历史叙事成为可能。相较于布赫洛与福斯特重返批判理论的“对抗”范式,他通过揭示艺术与大众文化之间动态协作的张力关系为新前卫艺术辩护。这一辩证的关系模式与多元主义与乌托邦主义都拉开了距离,将前卫艺术理论引向协作与竞争的现实之维。

社会理论与文化研究

新的网络空间、图像、媒体和计算机产业构成了全新的媒体文化。面对这种变革,需要将文化视为连续的整体,运用跨学科和多视角的方法进行文化社会学研究。古典社会学理论通过勾勒现代社会中经济、政治、社会和文化之间的关系,超越了学科限制。法兰克福学派在跨学科的基础上,采取多视角的方法研究各种文化现象,发展了早期的文化研究模式。与法兰克福学派相同,英国伯明翰学派在元理论层面将社会理论、文化分析与政治批判相结合,以社会变革为研究导向。英国文化研究拒绝了高雅/低俗的文化区分,克服了法兰克福学派的精英主义,并借由“积极受众”概念,打破法兰克福学派“被动受众”概念的局限。然而,20世纪80年代后文化研究强调消费乐趣、庆祝流行文化,导致对“大众文化”不加批判的赞扬;忽视了高雅文化、现代主义和前卫运动的影响。为此,文化研究和文化社会学需要发展一种多视角的方法,从政治经济学、文本分析、受众研究三个维度对广泛的文化产品加以批评,形成对法兰克福学派、英国文化研究、后现代理论和其他新方法的综合运用。

短视频作家批评的话语形态与言说机制

当前作家批评出现了“短视频段子”的新型文学批评话语形态。言说内容注重文学的生活化,主要包括生活化文艺问题的个性化展开、文学文化经典的生活化还原、文学对当代生活的洞见和启示。言说方式为以点带面、散点透视的段子言说:一是“标准段子”言说,语词系统多由网络热词和日常口语构成,以切合读者现实生活的日常化表达或幽默化表达为主,注重铺陈和反转以达到“有趣”的效果;二是“反段子”言说,以书面化语词对读者现实生存困惑进行严肃探讨,以由情入理的渐近论述达到“有智”的效果。言说机制包含了文化、文学、艺术生产、媒介技术等多方面,其关键是当代社会各要素加速融合造成的作家“人-现实-文学”融合的“大文学”观以及“创作-批评”融合的“大创作”思维。
