It is known to contain the compound citronellal, which is responsible for the lemon-scent of many of the plants of the genus Cymbopogon. A chloroform extract of Cymbopogon citratus was screened to determine its free radical scavenging activities. Three different methods were used to test the antioxidant activity of the extract, including FRAP assay (Ferric reducing antioxidant potential), DPPH radical scavenging assay (1,1-diphenyl-2-picryl hydrazyl radical reducing power methods), and β-carotene bleaching assay. Cymbopogon citratus showed low radical scavenging activities compared to ascorbic acid, gallic acid and quercetin. The results obtained suggest that Cymbopogon citratus is best appreciated for its refreshing aroma and delicate taste, but has little to offer as a source of antioxidants.展开更多

The present study aimed to estimate the individual and total phenols and antioxidant activity of the aqueous and alcoholic extracts of three premium quality date varieties (Khalas, Sukkari and Ajwa) from Saudi Arabia....The present study aimed to estimate the individual and total phenols and antioxidant activity of the aqueous and alcoholic extracts of three premium quality date varieties (Khalas, Sukkari and Ajwa) from Saudi Arabia. In general, water extract has shown significantly higher contents of total phenols than alcoholic, especially in Ajwa (455.88 and 245.66 mg/100 g respectively). However, phenolic profile indicated that Sukkari contained the highest rutin concentration (8.10 mg/kg), whereas, catechin was approximately the same in Sukkari and Ajwa (7.50 and 7.30 mg/kg respectively). Khalas was the highest variety content of caffeic acid (7.40 mg/kg). A significant difference has indicated among extracts and varieties in suppressing lipid peroxidation. Sukkari and Ajwa have reduced the oxidation with 50% at lower concentration in water extract than alcoholic (0.63, 0.70 and 1.60, 1.43 mg/ml respectively). Furthermore, high positive linear correlation was found between total phenols in water (r = 0.96) and alcohol (r = 0.85) extracts and inhibition of lipid oxidation activity. The compounds responsible for the activity were catechin (r = 0.96), and rutin (r = 0.74) in water extract, whereas this correlation decreased in alcoholic extract (r = 0.66) for catechin and very weak (r = 0.38) for rutin. No correlation was found between caffeic acid and lipid peroxidation in both extracts. Similar significant results were obtained with DPPH test, except with Sukari, which has shown no difference between aqueous and alcoholic extracts (4.30, 4.10 mg/ml respectively).展开更多

文摘Cymbopogon citratus, better known as lemongrass, is a plant commonly used for culinary purposes. The results obtained suggest that Cymbopogon citratus is best appreciated for its refreshing aroma and delicate taste, but has little to offer as a source of antioxidants.
文摘Plants were collected and prepared for chemical analysis, total phenolics, anthocyanins concentrations, and free radical scavenging activity. Results showed that, protein concentration of Malva parviflora (22.9%) was the highest among the plants. Ruta chalepensis had high levels of fat and carbohydrates (4.2% and 51.7%, respectively), but had the lowest level of ash (8.7%). Mineral concentrations varied and found to have appreciable amounts of Ca, Na, K, Cu, Fe, Mg, Mn, Zn and P. Total phenolic ranged from 163.1 (Tetragonolobus palaestinus) to 1328.8 mg GAE/100g (Ruta chalepensis). Anthocyanins ranged between 18.1 (Gundelia tournefortii) and 100.1 mg/100g (Rumex acetosella). These plants differed in free radical scavenging activity. It was concluded that these plants could be considered as natural sources for antioxidants and valuable natural resources as a new addition to the diet of inhabitants.

文摘Well-confined uniform polyaniline (PANI) nanofibers were synthesized by using photo-assisted chemical oxidative polymer- ization of aniline in the presence of different dopant acids, and the radical scavenging ability of the produced PANI nanofibers was determined by the DPPH assay. It was found that the antioxidant activity of PANI nanofibers was higher than conventional PANI, and increased with decreasing of averaged diameter of the nanofibers. The enhanced antioxidant activity was concerned with increased surface area of PANI nanofibers.

文摘In order to enhance the water-solubility and biological utilization rate of chrysin, sodium 5,7-dihydroxylflavone-8-sulfonate (1, [Na(H2O)1/2]X, X = C15H9OSO3, 5,7-dihydroxylfla- vone-8-sulfonate) was synthesized and its structure was identified on the basis of NMR, FT-IR and elemental analysis. The assembly of 5,7-dihydroxylflavone-8-sulfonate with diethylamide cation afforded diethylamide 5,7-dihydroxylflavone-8-sulfonate (2, NH2(CH2CH3)2X) which was characterized by FT-IR and elemental analysis. The crystal structures of 1 and 2 were determined by X-ray single-crystal diffraction analysis. The crystal of 1 is of triclinic system, space group P1, with a = 8.5628(13), b = 12.8916(19), c = 13.562(2) A, α = 82.494(1), β = 78.601(2), γ = 84.033(2)°, C30H20Na2O15S2, Z = 2, Mr = 730.59, V = 1450.3(4) A3, Dc = 1.673 g/cm3, F(000) = 748, p = 0.295 mm^-1, the final R = 0.0641 and wR = 0.1458. The crystal of 2 crystallizes in the triclinic system, space group Pi, with a = 7.689(2), b = 11.184(3), c = 11.734(3) A, α = 74.268(3), βl = 81.751(4), γ= 87.991(3)°, C19H21NO7S, Z = 2, Mr= 407.43, V= 961.2(4) A3, Dc = 1.408 g/cm3, F(000) = 428, p = 0.210 mm^-1, the final R = 0.0484 and wR = 0.1195. In 1, the three-dimensional structure is organized into organic and inorganic regions; the flavone skeletons are stacked into organic regions by π...π staeking interactions; inorganic regions are generated by Na-O coordination bonds among sulfonate groups, coordinated water molecules and NaI. The sulfonate groups play an important role as a bridge of inorganic and organic regions. One-dimensional chain structure of 2 is extended by N-H…O hydrogen bonds and π...π stacking interactions. Furthermore, the antioxidant activity of 1 was evaluated. The scavenging activity of 1 to DPPH free radical is better than that of the parent compound chrysin.
文摘The present study aimed to estimate the individual and total phenols and antioxidant activity of the aqueous and alcoholic extracts of three premium quality date varieties (Khalas, Sukkari and Ajwa) from Saudi Arabia. Similar significant results were obtained with DPPH test, except with Sukari, which has shown no difference between aqueous and alcoholic extracts (4.30, 4.10 mg/ml respectively).
