Traditional numerical methods, such as the finite element method(FEM), often face a trade-off between calculation accuracy and efficiency. In this paper, we propose a quasi-smooth manifold element(QSME) method to address this challenge, and provide the accurate and efficient analysis of two-dimensional(2D) anisotropic heat conduction problems in composites with complex geometry. The QSME approach achieves high calculation precision by a high-order local approximation that ensures the first-order derivative continuity. The results demonstrate that the QSME method is robust and stable, offering both high accuracy and efficiency in the heat conduction analysis. With the same degrees of freedom(DOFs), the QSME method can achieve at least an order of magnitude higher calculation accuracy than the traditional FEM. Additionally, under the same level of calculation error, the QSME method requires 10 times fewer DOFs than the traditional FEM. The versatility of the proposed QSME method extends beyond anisotropic heat conduction problems in complex composites. The proposed QSME method can also be applied to other problems, including fluid flows, mechanical analyses, and other multi-field coupled problems, providing accurate and efficient numerical simulations.展开更多

Usually elements are sub-divided uniformly in FEM (conventional FEM, CFEM) to obtain temperature distribution behavior in a fin or plate. Hence, extra computational complexity is needed to obtain a fair solution with required accuracy. In this paper, non-uniform sub-elements are considered for FEM (efficient FEM, EFEM) solution to reduce the computational complex-ity. Then this EFEM is applied for the solution of one-dimensional heat transfer problem in a rectangular thin fin. The obtained results are compared with CFEM and efficient DQM (EDQM), with non-uniform mesh generation). It is found that the EFEM exhibit more accurate results than CFEM and EDQM showing its potentiality.展开更多

In the finite element model, the high-power ultrasonic transducer is modeled by using a piezoelectric thermal-analogy method, and the dynamical interaction between both crack faces is modeled using a contact-impact theory. In the simulations, the frictional heating taking place at the crack faces is quantitatively calculated by using finite element thermal-structural coupling analysis, especially, the influences of acoustic chaos to plate vibration and crack heating are calculated and analysed in detail. The nodeless variable element employs quadratic interpolation functions to provide higher solution accuracy without necessity to actually generate additional nodes. The flux-based formulation is applied to reduce the complexity in deriving the finite element equations as compared to the conventional finite element method, The solution accuracy is further improved by implementing an adaptive meshing technique to generaie finite element mesh that can adapt and move along corresponding to the solution behavior. The technique generates small elements in the regions of steep solution gradients to provide accurate solution, and meanwhile it generates larger elements in the other regions where the solution gradients are slight to reduce the computational time and the computer memory. The effectiveness of the combined procedure is demonstrated by heat transfer problems that have exact solutions. These problems tire: (a) a steady-state heat conduction analysis in a square plate subjected to a highly localized surface heating, and (b) a transient heat conduction analysis in a long plate subjected to moving heat source.展开更多

The present work determined the possibility of using aluminium alloy 7075 material to design and manufacture a connecting rod for weight optimisation without losing the strength of the connecting rod. It considered modal and thermal analyses to investigate the suitability of the material for connecting rod design. The parameters that were considered under the modal analysis were: total deformation, and natural frequency, while the thermal analysis looked at the temperature distribution, total heat flux and directional heat flux of the four connecting rods made with titanium alloy, grey cast iron, structural steel and aluminium 7075 alloy respectively. The streamline upwind finite element method is used for the analysis of thermal viscous flow in the fluid region, whereas the analysis of heat conduction in solid region is performed by the Galerkin method. The welding temperature field, the distributions of residual stresses in as-welded (AW) and electron beam local post-weld heat treatment (EBLPWHT) conditions have been successfully simulated. The results show that: (1) In the weld center, the maximum magnitude of residual tensile stresses of BT20 thin plates of Ti alloy is equal to 60%- 70% of its yield strength σs. (2) The residual tensile stresses in weld center can be even decreased after EBLPWHT and the longitudinal tensile stresses are decreased about 50% compared to joints in AW conditions. A uniformly heated circular cylinder is located at the centre of the cavity. The object of this study is to describe the effects of MHD on the thermal fields and flow in presence of such heated circular cylinder by visualization of graph. The investigations are conducted for different values of Rayleigh number (Ra) and Hartmann number (Ha). The results show that the temperature field and flow pattern are significantly dependent on the above mentioned parameters.
文摘The solution to heat transfer problems in two-dimensional heterogeneous media is attended based on the scaled boundary finite element method(SBFEM)coupled with equilibrated basis functions(EqBFs).The SBFEM reduces the model order by scaling the boundary solution onto the inner element. To this end,tri-lateral elements are emanated from a scaling center, followed by the development of a semi-analytical solution along the radial direction and a finite element solution along the circumferential/boundary direction. The discretization is thus limited to the boundaries of the model, and the semi-analytical radial solution is found through the solution of an eigenvalue problem, which restricts the methods’applicability to heterogeneous media. In this research,we first extracted the SBFEM formulation considering the heterogeneity of the media. Then,we replaced the semi-analytical radial solution with the EqBFs and removed the eigenvalue solution step from the SBFEM.The varying coefficients of the partial differential equation(PDE)resulting from the heterogeneity of the media are replaced by a finite series in the radial and circumferential directions of the element.A weighted residual approach is applied to the radial equation. The equilibrated radial solution series is used in the new formulation of the SBFEM.

文摘A 2D full cell thermo-electric model of 160kA drained cell was set up using finiteelement code to calculate its freeze profile, then the drained cell model was modifiedaccording to the freeze profile computed and its heat balance was calculated. Comparedwith that of a 160kA conventional Hall-Heroult cell (H-H cell), though the melts vol-ume of the drained cell reduced greatly, the whole heat loss from it didn't drop downapparently, and an analysis was presented in the paper. On the other hand, the anode-cathode distance (ACD) of a drained cell was much less than that of a H-H cell, sothe voltage drop on it and heat produced decreased too, steps should be taken to keepa workable heat balance on a drained cell.
文摘A three-dimensional finite-element model (FEM) used for calculating electron beam (EB) welding temperature and stresses fields of thin plates of BT20 titanium has been developed in which the nonlinear thermophysical and thermo-mechanical properties of the material has been considered. (3) The numerical calculating results of residual stresses by using FEM are basically in agreement with the experimental results. Combined with numerical calculating results, the effects of electron beam welding and EBLPWHT on the distribution of welding residual stresses in thin plates of BT20 have been analyzed in detail.
