The main objective of this paper is to support the retailer to make t...This paper investigates an optimal day-ahead dynamic pricing problem in an electricity market with one electricity retailer and multiple customers. The main objective of this paper is to support the retailer to make the best day-ahead dynamic pricing decision, which maximizes its profit under the realistic assumption that mixed types of customers coexist in the electricity market where some customers have installed smart meters with the embedded home energy management system in their home whereas other customers have not installed smart meters. To this end, we propose a hybrid demand modelling framework which firstly uses an optimal energy management algorithm with bill minimization to model the behavior of customers with smart meters and secondly use a data-driven demand modelling method to model the behavior of customers without smart meters. Such a hybrid demand model can not only schedule usages of home appliances to the interests of customers with smart meters but also be used to understand electricity usage behaviors of customers without smart meters. Based on the established hybrid demand model for all customers, a profit maximization algorithm is developed to achieve optimal prices for the retailer under relevant market constraints. Under the condition of no growth of the revenue(i.e. no increase of total bill from all customers), simulation results indicate our optimization algorithm can improve the profit for around 5% on average.展开更多
We study a dynamic pricing problem of a firm facing stochastic reference price effect.Randomness is incorporated in the formation of reference prices to capture either consumers’heterogeneity or exogenous factors tha...We study a dynamic pricing problem of a firm facing stochastic reference price effect.Randomness is incorporated in the formation of reference prices to capture either consumers’heterogeneity or exogenous factors that affect consumers’memory processes.We apply the stochastic optimal control theory to the problem and derive an explicit expression for the optimal pricing strategy.The explicit expression allows us to obtain the distribution of the steady-state reference price.We compare the expected steadystate reference price to the steady-state reference price in a model with deterministic reference price effect,and we find that the former one is always higher.Our numerical study shows that the two steady-state reference prices can have opposite sensitivity to the problem parameters and the relative difference between the two can be very significant.展开更多
Growing private vehicle use and a limited supply of parking resources have increased competition for parking spaces.Ineffective searching for parking spaces is a significant barrier to smooth traffic flow.Smart techno...Growing private vehicle use and a limited supply of parking resources have increased competition for parking spaces.Ineffective searching for parking spaces is a significant barrier to smooth traffic flow.Smart technology-generated parking reservations are regarded as an excellent way to increase parking efficiency and lessen traffic.Although there is increased attention on smart parking research and parking reservation optimization,a scoping review is currently lacking.Therefore,the purpose of this paper is to provide a comprehensive review of the research literature related to parking reservations.Out of the original 438 publications identified in this search,99 were eventually chosen for analysis.The review categorized parking reservations into four research topics:inventory control,allocation decisions,pricing strategies,and performance evaluation.The elements considered in these research themes,modeling techniques,and evaluation criteria are explored in detail.In addition,the challenges and further enhancements of parking reservation optimization are discussed.It is believed that the findings from this study will be beneficial in further research on parking reservations.展开更多

From the study of optimal control conditions, we derive qualitative properties of the optimal procurement and production decisions for a few exemplifying cases.
