There are in Tibet Autonomous Region 190,000 disabled persons, including more than 30,000 who are deaf-mutes or are hearing impaired. In the Tibetan language, a word is often expressed with different signs. This poses a serious handicap for communication and exchanges among Tibetan deaf-mutes and their effort to participate in social activities. The ongoing research and development of a Tibetan sign language is expected to get rid of that handicap and allow Tibetan deaf-mutes to lead a normal life. 展开更多

A multidisciplinary approach for developing an intelligent sign multi-language recognition system to greatly enhance deaf-mute communication will be discussed and implemented. This involves designing a low-cost glove-based sensing system, collecting large and diverse datasets, preprocessing the data, and using efficient machine learning models. Furthermore, the glove is integrated with a user-friendly mobile application called “Life-sign” for this system. The main goal of this work is to minimize the processing time of machine learning classifiers while maintaining higher accuracy performance. This is achieved by using effective preprocessing algorithms to handle noisy and inconsistent data. Testing and iterating approaches have been applied to various classifiers to refine and improve their accuracy in the recognition process. Additionally, the Extra Trees (ET) classifier has been identified as the best algorithm, with results proving successful gesture prediction at an average accuracy of about 99.54%. A smart optimization feature has been implemented to control the size of data transferred via Bluetooth, allowing for fast recognition of consecutive gestures. Real-time performance has been measured through extensive experimental testing on various consecutive gestures, specifically referring to Arabic Sign Language (ArSL). The results have demonstrated that the system guarantees consecutive gesture recognition with a lower delay of 50 milliseconds. 展开更多

Introduction: The congenital malformations of the ear are rare and often isolated, may be unilateral or bilateral, and can be associated with another syndromic malformation. Such malformations so not necessarily impact aesthetics and social relations. Case Presentation: The authors report the case of Samuel M, male born at 38 WA, who is the first child of healthy parents from the same socio-cultural area. His birth weight was 2800 g and he did not have any risk factors for deafness or concept of obstetrical trauma. He presented with congenital malformation manifesting as bilateral ear aplasia with unilateral facial paralysis. Computed tomography revealed abnormalities of the inner ear;functional explorations, such as PEA and OEA, showed findings in favor of bilateral cophosis. ASSR (Auditory Steady-State Responses) was not performed. The announcement of the serious diagnosis of deafness requires multidisciplinary care in order to plan a therapeutic program to limit the impact on the development of language, schooling, and consequently, the socio-professional future of children. Conclusion: This clinical case underlines the fact that interest of the clinical interview before possible multiple surgery does not always guarantee the satisfaction of the desire for repair in this type of patient. 展开更多
