Hawthorne's The Minister's Black Veil, with the obscurity and uncertainty in its disclosure, offers the feasibility for a deconstruction study. The binary oppositions and its deconstruction of the "black veil" in perspective of persona, idea and existence contribute to the void perception and activities of Mr.Hooper, the protagonist as well as the author's literary practice.展开更多

The relation between imagination and reality is a major theme of his poems. He holds the view that the mission of poets is to build a bridge linking the world of imagination and of reality with the result of deconstructing the logic of binary opposition since the time of Plato. Thirteen Ways of Looking at A Blackbird is a representative poem that expresses Wallace’s thoughts of deconstruction. This article is to probe into how the poet establishes the reality dominated by imagination and then how he deconstructs the binary opposition between imagination and reality since the time of Plato.展开更多

Furthermore, given the population growth in semi-developed and developing countries, economic growth, increasing waste, and increasing amounts of energy consumption, the industry requires the development of efficient methods to deconstruct old buildings by reducing waste and saving as much energy as possible during periods of urban redevelopment and maintenance. In general, either an ordinary breaker or a hydraulic breaker is used to deconstruct reinforced concrete buildings. This deconstruction method has the ability to shorten the construction period compared to the other methods, but it is difficult to separate the debris that gets mixed when the deconstruction is completed, as it is a rough construction method that uses large equipment. This study develops a technology that can be used to selectively heat, separate, and deconstruct the steel reinforcement inside reinforced concrete, treating the reinforcement as a conductive resistor and applying high-frequency induction heating to the reinforced concrete structure. Specifically, this study verifies the temperature characteristics of deformed bars inside reinforced concrete, the occurrence of cracks due to thermal fracture of the deformed bars, and chemical and physical weakening of concrete by thermal conduction on the surface of steel reinforcement using the high-frequency induction heating technology. Furthermore, this study considers the extent of concrete weakening in the heating range of appropriate energy and carries out a technical review of the stages that would be actually applied. This technology involves low noise and low pollution levels, and it increases the collection rate of steel reinforcement inside separated reinforced concrete members and the recycling rate of construction wastes;thus, its use is expected to reduce the energy consumption by minimizing secondary processing.展开更多

By comparing the idealization of the image of Lenin in Soviet art of the 1930-1950s with its grotesque interpretation in Sots Art works of the 1990s, it appears to be interesting to trace the functions of grotesque and caricature in the deconstruction of the canons of socialist realism. Thereupon, special interest is the role of the regression mechanism in the transformation of the ideals of socialist realism into laughable images.展开更多

It can be seen from Pynchon's dramatic, sometimes fantastic narratives about these movements that the failure of the countercultural movements lies in their illusive nature in contrast with the hypocrisy and disproportionate power of the government to destruct these movements, and that the presence of American racial problems results to a great degree from the sloth prevailing over various institutions in American society when dealing with racial inequality and from American white racists' desire to eliminate an imagined threat in the face of the minorities. This paper tries to provide a different understanding that Pynchon's writing of the marginalized or surrealistic issues in these countercultural and civil rights movements is his strategy to expose the falsehood of American myth of democracy.展开更多

David Henry Hwang is a dazzling star among Chinese-American writers. He is the first to perform his own works on Broadway as well as the first to get Tony Award. He is the most successful and reputable Asian American playwright in the history of American Drama. Hwang's masterpiece M. Butterfly inverts orientalism's constructing the relationship between the east and the west, subverts stereotypes of the oriental in the westerners' eyes, and cries out a distinctive voice of"the other" to western hegemony culture. However~ as a Chinese-American writer of the second generation that receives white mainstream cultural education, Hwang's deconstructing the orientalism and subverting the fixed relationship between the east and west has its imperfection, which results from social and historical environment the author lives in, personal experiences as well as national culture identity. In addition, Hwang's M.Butterfly aims at appealing for the eastern and western cultures' learning from each other, communicating with each other in order to achieve the goal of cultural co-prosperity with a broader mind in a harmonious atmosphere.展开更多

The paper presents a review study on the particular relationship of Deconstruction and Structuralism by comparing these two criticism schools from the respects of their origins, features, and limitations in the chronological view. It tends to prove that Deconstruction stems from the Structuralism, however Deconstruction differs itself from Structuralism in certain key features and bases itself upon a certain characteristic critique of Structuralism.展开更多
