However, most of the existing data-driven methods cannot be able to handle both of them. Thus, a new Bayesian network classifier based fault detection and diagnosis method is proposed. At first, a non-imputation method is presented to handle the data incomplete samples, with the property of the proposed Bayesian network classifier, and the missing values can be marginalized in an elegant manner. Furthermore, the Gaussian mixture model is used to approximate the non-Gaussian data with a linear combination of finite Gaussian mixtures, so that the Bayesian network can process the non-Gaussian data in an effective way. Therefore, the entire fault detection and diagnosis method can deal with the high-dimensional incomplete process samples in an efficient and robust way. The diagnosis results are expressed in the manner of probability with the reliability scores. The proposed approach is evaluated with a benchmark problem called the Tennessee Eastman process. The simulation results show the effectiveness and robustness of the proposed method in fault detection and diagnosis for large-scale systems with missing measurements.展开更多

Although many fault detection and diagnosis (FDD) methods have been developed for building air conditioning systems, they are difficult to be applied to bus air conditioners since its operation is highly dynamic and fault-free data are usually unavailable. Therefore, this paper proposes an FDD method for electric bus air conditioners to tackle the above issues. First, the method identifies faults in an unsupervised manner by comparing selected features among a group of peer systems. Then, considering the features are influenced by the operating conditions, Gaussian process regression (GPR) models are established to find the relationships between each feature and its influential parameters. The probabilistic nature of the GPR is used to differentiate predictions with large uncertainty, which are then excluded from FDD. In this way, robustness of the method is evidently improved. Finally, fault indexes are defined to detect and diagnose mechanical faults. We applied the method to a group of air conditioners in a city bus fleet. Results showed that it can effectively identify refrigerant undercharge and indoor and outdoor fan problems with low false positive/genitive rates. Also, the method is highly robust and not sensitive to the faulty systems in the bus fleet.展开更多

Therefore, the potential for energy saving by improving the efficiency of HVAC systems is huge and various fault detection and diagnosis (FDD) methods have been studied for this purpose. Although amongst all types of existing FDD methods, datadriven based ones are regarded as the most effective methods. As a relatively new branch of data-driven approaches, deep learning (DL) methods have shown promising results, a comprehensive review of DL applications in this area is absent. To fill the research gap, this systematic review with meta analysis analyses the relevant studies both quantitatively and qualitatively. The review is conducted by searching Web of Science, ScienceDirect, and Semantic search. There are 47 eligible studies included in this review following the preferred reporting items for systematic reviews and meta-analyses (PRISMA) protocol. 6 out of the 47 studies are identified as eligible for meta analysis of the effectiveness of DL methods for FDD. The most used DL method is 2D convolutional neural network (CNN). Results suggest that DL methods show promising results as a HVAC FDD. However, most studies use simulation/lab experiment data and real-world complexities are not fully investigated. Therefore, DL methods need to be further tested with real-world scenarios to support decision-making.展开更多

Specifically, the use of hierarchical clustering (HC) and self-organizing map neural networks (SOMNNs) are shown to provide robust and user-friendly tools for application to industrial gas turbine (IGT) systems. HC fingerprints are found for normal operation, and FDD is achieved by monitoring cluster changes occurring in the resulting dendrograms. Similarly, fingerprints of operational behaviour are also obtained using SOMNN based classification maps (CMs) that are initially determined during normal operation, and FDD is performed by detecting changes in their CMs. The proposed methods are shown to be capable of FDD from a large group of sensors that measure a variety of physical quantities. A key feature of the paper is the development of techniques to accommodate transient system operation, which can often lead to false-alarms being triggered when using traditional techniques if the monitoring algorithms are not first desensitized. Case studies showing the efficacy of the techniques for detecting sensor faults, bearing tilt pad wear and early stage pre-chamber burnout, are included. The presented techniques are now being applied operationally and monitoring IGTs in various regions of the world.展开更多

The 802.11 Wi-Fi standard provides power management feature that allows stations(STAs) to enter into sleep state to preserve energy without any frame losses. After the STA wakes up, it sends a null data or PS-Poll frame to retrieve frame(s) buffered by the access point(AP), if any during its sleep period. An attacker can launch a power save denial of service(PS-DoS) attack on the sleeping STA(s) by transmitting a spoofed null data or PS-Poll frame(s) to retrieve the buffered frame(s) of the sleeping STA(s) from the AP causing frame losses for the targeted STA(s). Current approaches to prevent or detect the PS-DoS attack require encryption, change in protocol or installation of proprietary hardware. These solutions suffer from expensive setup, maintenance, scalability and deployment issues. The PS-DoS attack does not differ in semantics or statistics under normal and attack circumstances. So signature and anomaly based intrusion detection system(IDS) are unfit to detect the PS-DoS attack. In this paper we propose a timed IDS based on real time discrete event system(RTDES) for detecting PS-DoS attack. The proposed DES based IDS overcomes the drawbacks of existing systems and detects the PS-DoS attack with high accuracy and detection rate. The correctness of the RTDES based IDS is proved by experimenting all possible attack scenarios.展开更多

文摘Fault detection and diagnosis(FDD)approaches comprise three main pillars:model-based,knowledge-based,and data-driven strategies.Data-driven approaches prioritise operational data and do not necessitate in-depth understanding of the system’s background;yet, significant amounts of data is required, which often poses challenges to researchers.Since simulated data is inexpensive and can run numerous faults types with varying severities and time periods,it has been used in data-driven FDD analysis. However, the majority of FDD approaches are implemented at the system level of buildings. However, most buildings have numerous systems with distinct features.Furthermore, using individualised system-level analysis makes it difficult to see system-to-system relationships.Currently, there is a significant underrepresentation of research that investigate the applications of FDD models under whole-building scenarios,so as to identify a wider range of energy consumption related faults in buildings.Furthermore, since data-driven approaches significantly depend on the quantities of training data,it becomes challenging to diagnose faults that have limited features. As a result, this study diagnoses numerous building systems faults, including single and simultaneous faults with limited features. This is implemented within the context of the whole-building energy performance of religious buildings in hot climatic areas, employing data-driven FDD methodologies.Various multi-class classification approaches were investigated to classify both the normal condition and faulty classes.Furthermore, feature extraction methodologies were compared to quantify their potential for improving the diagnosis. In addition to the classification evaluation metrics,one-way ANOVA and Tukey-Kramer tests were implemented to examine the significance of the reported performance differences.RF classifier obtained highest classification accuracy during validation and testing with about 90%,indicating a promising performance in whole-building faults analysis. The adoption of feature extraction techniques did not improve classification performance, thereby emphasising that some classifiers may perform better with high-dimensional datasets.
文摘Recent studies show that artificial intelligence(AI),such as machine learning and deep learning, models can be adopted and have advantages in fault detection and diagnosis for building energy systems. This paper aims to conduct a comprehensive and systematic literature review on fault detection and diagnosis(FDD)methods for heating, ventilation, and air conditioning(HVAC)systems. This review covers the period from 2013 to 2023 to identify and analyze the existing research in this field. Our work concentrates explicitly on synthesizing AI-based FDD techniques, particularly summarizing these methods and offering a comprehensive classification.First,we discuss the challenges while developing FDD methods for HVAC systems.Next,we classify AI-based FDD methods into three categories:those based on traditional machine learning, deep learning, and hybrid AI models.Additionally,we also examine physical model-based methods to compare them with AI-based methods. The analysis concludes that AI-based HVAC FDD,despite its higher accuracy and reduced reliance on expert knowledge, has garnered considerable research interest compared to physics-based methods. However,it still encounters difficulties in dynamic and time-varying environments and achieving FDD resolution.Addressing these challenges is essential to facilitate the widespread adoption of AI-based FDD in HVAC.

文摘Fault detection and diagnosis(FDD)of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning(HVAC)systems can help to improve the energy saving in building energy systems. However, most data-driven trained FDD models have limited generalizability and can only be applied to specific systems. The diversity of HVAC systems and the high cost of data acquisition present challenges for the practical application of FDD.Transfer learning technology can be employed to mitigate this problem by training a model on systems with sufficient data and then transfer it to other systems with limited data.In this study,a novel transfer learning approach for HVAC FDD is proposed.First, the transformer model is modified to incorporate one encoder and two decoders connected, enabling two outputs. This modified transformer model accommodates absent features in the target domain and serves as a robust foundation for transfer learning. It has effective performance in complex systems and achieves an accuracy of 91.38%for a system with 16 faults and multiple fault severity levels.Second, the adapter-based parameter-efficient transfer learning method, facilitating the transfer of trained models simply by inserting small adapter modules,is investigated as the transfer learning strategy. Results demonstrate that this adapter-based transfer learning approach achieves satisfactory performance similar to full fine-tuning with fewer trainable parameters. It works well with limited data amount in target domain.Furthermore, the findings highlight the significance of adapters positioned near the bottom and top layers, emphasizing their critical role in facilitating successful transfer learning.

文摘In practical mechanical fault detection and diagnosis,it is difficult and expensive to collect enough large-scale supervised data to train deep networks.Transfer learning can reuse the knowledge obtained from the source task to improve the performance of the target task, which performs well on small data and reduces the demand for high computation power. However, the detection performance is significantly reduced by the direct transfer due to the domain difference.Domain adaptation(DA)can transfer the distribution information from the source domain to the target domain and solve a series of problems caused by the distribution difference of data.In this survey,we review various current DA strategies combined with deep learning(DL)and analyze the principles, advantages, and disadvantages of each method. We also summarize the application of DA combined with DL in the field of fault diagnosis. This paper provides a summary of the research results and proposes future work based on analysis of the key technologies.
文摘Building sector account for significant global energy consumption and Heating Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) systems contribute to the highest portion of building energy consumption. Therefore, DL methods need to be further tested with real-world scenarios to support decision-making.
文摘The paper presents readily implementable approaches for fault detection and diagnosis (FDD) based on measurements from multiple sensor groups, for industrial systems. The presented techniques are now being applied operationally and monitoring IGTs in various regions of the world.
文摘Buildings worldwide account for nearly 40%of global energy consumption. The biggest energy consumer in buildings is the heating, ventilation and air conditioning(HVAC)systems. In HVAC systems, chillers account for a major portion of the energy consumption.Maintaining chillers in good conditions through early fault detection and diagnosis is thus a critical issue. In this paper, the fault detection and diagnosis for an air-cooled chiller with air coming from outside in variable flow rates is studied. The problem is difficult since the air-cooled chiller is operating under major uncertainties including the cooling load, and the air temperature and flow rate.A potential method to overcome the difficulty caused by the uncertainties is to perform fault detection and diagnosis based on a gray-box model with parameters regarded as constants. The method is developed and verified by us in another paper for a water-cooled chiller with the uncertainty of cooling load. The verification used a Kalman filter to predict parameters of a gray-box model and statistical process control(SPC)for measuring and analyzing their variations for fault detection and diagnosis. The gray-box model in the method, however, requires that the air temperature and flow rate be nearly constant.By introducing two new parameters and deleting data points with low air flow rate, the requirement can be satisfied and the method can then be applicable for an air-cooled chiller. The simulation results show that the method with the revised model and some data points dropped improved the fault detection and diagnosis(FDD)performance greatly. It can detect both sudden and gradual air-cooled chiller capacity degradation and sensor faults as well as their recoveries.

文摘To deal with fault detection and diagnosis with incomplete model for dead reckoning system of mobile robot,an integrative framework of particle filter detection and fuzzy logic diagnosis was devised.Firstly,an adaptive fault space is designed for recognizing both known faults and unknown faults,in corresponding modes of modeled and model-free.Secondly,the particle filter is utilized to diagnose the modeled faults and detect model-free fault according to the low particle weight and reliability.Especially, the proposed fuzzy logic diagnosis can further analyze model-free modes and identify some soft faults in unknown fault space. The MORCS-1 experimental results show that the fuzzy diagnosis particle filter(FDPF) combinational framework improves fault detection and identification completeness.Specifically speaking,FDPF is feasible to diagnose the modeled faults in known space.Furthermore, the types of model-free soft faults can also be further identified and diagnosed in unknown fault space.
文摘Colonoscopy remains the standard strategy for screening for colorectal cancer around the world due to its efficacy in both detecting adenomatous or precancerous lesions and the capacity to remove them intra-procedurally.Computeraided detection and diagnosis(CAD),thanks to the brand new developed innovations of artificial intelligence, and especially deep-learning techniques, leads to a promising solution to human biases in performance by guarantying decision support during colonoscopy. The application of CAD on real-time colonoscopy helps increasing the adenoma detection rate, and therefore contributes to reduce the incidence of interval cancers improving the effectiveness of colonoscopy screening on critical outcome such as colorectal cancer related mortality.Furthermore,a significant reduction in costs is also expected. In addition, the assistance of the machine will lead to a reduction of the examination time and therefore an optimization of the endoscopic schedule. The aim of this opinion review is to analyze the clinical applications of CAD and artificial intelligence in colonoscopy,as it is reported in literature, addressing evidence, limitations, and future prospects.

文摘A statistical signal processing technique was proposed and verified as independent component analysis(ICA) for fault detection and diagnosis of industrial systems without exact and detailed model.Actually, the aim is to utilize system as a black box.The system studied is condenser system of one of MAPNA's power plants. At first, principal component analysis(PCA) approach was applied to reduce the dimensionality of the real acquired data set and to identify the essential and useful ones. Then, the fault sources were diagnosed by ICA technique. The results show that ICA approach is valid and effective for faults detection and diagnosis even in noisy states, and it can distinguish main factors of abnormality among many diverse parts of a power plant's condenser system. This selectivity problem is left unsolved in many plants, because the main factors often become unnoticed by fault expansion through other parts of the plants.

文摘Wi-Fi devices have limited battery life because of which conserving battery life is imperative. The correctness of the RTDES based IDS is proved by experimenting all possible attack scenarios.
