The array is composed of two periodic LWAs with different periods, in which each LWA generates a narrow beam through the n=-1 space harmonic. Due to the two different periods for the two LWAs, two beams with two different directions can be realized, which can be combined into a sum beam when the array is fed in phase or into a difference beam when the array is fed 180?out of phase. The array integrated with 180?hybrid is designed, fabricated, and measured.Measurement results show that the sum beam can reach a gain up to 15.9 dBi and scan from-33.4?to 20.8?. In the scanning range, the direction of the null in the difference beam is consistent with the direction of the sum beam, with the lowest null depth of-40.8 dB. With the excellent performance, the antenna provides an alternative solution with low complexity and low cost for target detection and tracking.展开更多

Target detection aided by the difference beam can improve the performance at this case. However, the existing difference beam aided target detectors have the problem of performance deterioration at the beam center, which has limited their application in real systems. To solve this problem, two detectors are proposed in this paper. Assuming the monopulse ratio is known, a generalized likelihood ratio test (GLRT) detector is derived, which can be used when targeting information on target direction is available. A practical dual-stage detector is proposed for the case that the monopulse ratio is unknown. Simulation results show that performances of the proposed detectors are superior to that of the classical detector.展开更多

New results are presented for the guided and simply supported guided boundary conditions. Numerical results are obtained to investigate the effects of the nonlocal parameter,length-to-height ratio, boundary condition, and nonuniform parameter on the critical buckling load parameter. It is observed that the critical buckling load decreases with increase in the nonlocal parameter while the critical buckling load parameter increases with increase in the length-to-height ratio.展开更多

They are usuMly assumed to be dual Maxwellian distribution functions with the same temperature for thermal nuclear fusion circumstances. However, if high power neutral beam injection and minority ion species ICRF plasma heating, or multi-pinched plasma beam head-on collision, in a converging region are required and investigated in future large scale fusion reactors, then the fractions of the injected energetic fast ion tail resulting from ionization or charge exchange will be large enough and their contribution to the non-Maxwellian distribution functions is not negligible, hence to the fusion reaction rate coefficient or calculation of fusion power. In such cases, beam-target, and beam-beam reaction enhancement effect contributions should play very important roles. In this paper, several useful formulae to calculate the fusion reaction rate coefticient for different beam and target combination scenarios are derived in detail展开更多

It is found that the characteristics of the rate of CO_2 formation r versus substrate temperature T are dependent on the ratio P=P_(CO)/P_(O2) in the mixed beam. These characteristics are related to the complicated interactions of co-adsorbed CO and O particles on Pd surface.展开更多

The gold contacts are applied on the top of waveguides where tuning is desired and the plasma effect will lead to negative refractive index change. The three-dimensional (3D) finite difference beam propagation method(FD-BPM) is used to model the tunable MMI couplers. The length of a 2 × 2 overlap-MMI is determined by FD-BPM, so the longitudinal position of tuning spots is obtained. The position of gold contacts with two types, the edge-pads or center-pad, are also determined. In our design, the length of MMI is 180 microns. If the width of pads is 50 microns and the refractive index is tuned from 0 to -0. 027, the power ratio is tuned from 50 : 50 to the maximum 88.5 : 11.4. For deep rib structure, the effective index(EI) method can not be used to simplify the 3D waveguide to plane waveguide because of its lower precision, and so the direct 3D FD-BPM simulation is necessary for the design of 3D MMI couplers.展开更多
